Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Silly Gameweek 26

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Silly Gameweek 26. Only in England could we have a ‘Winter Break’ in which all teams still play and yet is punctuated (somewhat) with FA Cup replays for four of them. We say good on Klopp for showing them the finger and highlighting the absurdity of it all. Politics aside, GW26 will be held over two weekends, beginning today on the 8th Feb and concluding a week on Monday, the 17th.

There’s an unequal split too, with four games this weekend and six on the next. It makes for an uncertain and very long GW but it is what it is. To make it even more odd we don’t have a single 3pm Saturday game on either weekend. Why? TV, that’s why. They’ve seen the opportunity and taken it; every single game is now scheduled in a TV slot.

We shall stop ranting though and let you crack on with enjoying the longest of long GW’s…

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Silly Gameweek 26 from all at FF247!

How about MNC concede that the league is lost and Pep convinces the FPL that Liverpool need a handicap.

So the games are rearranged to DGW1 & 2 next season and MNC get a two game advantage to even things up

Sounds cool!! Better yet, why not introduce a salary cap to the prem, would even things up real nicely! :good2:

      • Terminator says:

The best players would go and all play in Spain, France, Italy and Germany etc.

They should cut the number of teams in the Prem, down to 16 over four years and only allow the 1st and 2nd teams to get promoted, well into the play-offs with the teams that are third and fourth from bottom in the Prem, so if the teams in the Championship cannot beat the teams up for relegation they don’t change leagues, also the parachute payments are stopped.

        • inittowinit says:

So they have 8 less games a year, cutting all TV deals worldwide down by nearly a quarter in revenue? And cutting off the lower leagues opportunities, aspirations and revenue in the process. Dream on! You wanted to cancel the League Cup final the other day. Shall we just have the Charity Shield annually and call it quits at that

        • Kralin says:

I quite like all this jaw. Reminds me of the days when the test cricket was on the BBC and they’d show old test matches when rain stopped play.

        • Terminator says:

They need to go to a proper subscription channel where you just buy a pass for a app/channel where every Prem game is shown live, they have already run the numbers it would be cheaper for the punters and the clubs would make more money.

Cutting the number of games on TV in RoW isn’t going to make much difference, no offense to Watford and Norwich supporters but there isn’t much demand in Japan to watch Watford v Norwich etc.

They just tinker at the edges all the time, they need to think about it seriously.

Yes get rid of the League Cup, or at least allow clubs to opt out of it if they want to, this way managers cannot moan that there are too many games because they have opted into to playing more games if they decided to take part in the League Cup.

        • Kralin says:

I’m surprised that amidst all this chatter a few hoary old chestnuts haven’t come popping out like clichés in a sentence.

Like – why not go back to two points for a win? (Which is a bit like saying, let’s go back to the 1970s.)

Or, and perhaps the most deranged – reward a side getting an away draw with more points than the home team?

          What do ya fink, T?

        • inittowinit says:

That’s a great analogy Kralin, but we’d all best get used to it this this week because there are no other articles, by hook or by crook I’m having my own winter break!!

Someone could offer us a free world exclusive on what actually happened to Diana with unequivocal proof and it’d be a no this week.

That said, I am currently prepping the CL article for next week! But at my own pace… which is a nice change.

      • Kralin says:

A salary-cap would be circumvented with the ease an embarrassing nightime incident involving the first XI and Old McDonald’s Farm would be – by waving a cheque book at it.

Players may have a salary cap but signing-on fees would go through the roof / players would get bonus payments for charity work that may include returning their plates after lunch, and so on.

        But it’s a nice idea.

        • AJW says:

Get Arthur Daley in to spin a few ideas on it Tel! ‘E always
‘ ad a good plan, did the gaffer!

        • Kralin says:

Who came first, Terry Venables or Arthur Daly? Both characters who seemed to find something in Thatcher’s Britain much to their taste.

God, I actually watched one or two of those back in the 80s. I have a memory of larky cor blimey ‘er indoors barrow boy humour mixed in with extreme violence – I remember a brutal fight on a bus – top-deck – involving the Dennis Waterman character. In fact most episodes ended in some sort of rumble. I can’t imagine they’ve aged that well.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yes, of course, I was just daydreaming, football is too popular around the world, they have salary cap in NHL and it works quite well, but then again it doesn’t affect the status of NHL being the best hockey league in the world where all the best ice hockey players want to play… But we do need salary caps in football in every league, and all other stuff too, make things more even between teams and more even between human beings, it’s just not happening, a bit like UK needs to be part of the EU, but it’s not!

If the city v west ham match is rescheduled for the 19th does that mean it will still be part of gw26?
