Fantasy Football Press Conference and Team News GW1

Welcome to Fantasy Football Press Conference and Team News GW1. Sometimes change is needed and not because you want to make it, simply because the current situation becomes untenable. This is the case for Predicted Line-ups. We know the line-ups themselves were a popular addition but in all honesty it was stretching us to a limit on a Friday. It also meant many key personnel hiding behind a computer screen for hours on end on the busiest day of the week trying to figure out such useful things as how Huddersfield would line up. Time best spent? We think not too. We’d much rather they be out and about getting involved in the chat and helping in that way.

Facts and figures wise we stacked up as we were 76.3% accurate overall last season, which is ahead of the industry average of 64.1%. Even so, do the math, it’s still hardly worth hanging your hat on…

However we did still want to get the team news out in some fashion. So what we are hoping to do is cover all the pressers on the boards, be it us or any site member who wants to jump in and lend a helping hand. Snippets, quotes, pictures and tweets all can be included. Now, this is not set in stone, this is what we are going to try to begin with, but we will adjust the format where we see fit and as long as it is something we are able to cover. We don’t mind any suggestions, in fact we welcome them, put them out there, could be that your idea is something we can do and works well for site members.

There will be a Hot Topic set up for all 10 games each week. The aim is much like what we do with the pre-season stuff; click on that Topic and it will take you to that particular thread. And then post away. The result will be that anyone can come on site, wanting to know the ‘Team News’ for a particular game and it will be a click away.

Let’s see how it works anyway…

As for the games themselves let’s get over to GW1;

The almost champions Liverpool get the Premier League started when they face off vs that bird that Suarez loved to munch on, the Canaries. That Friday night fixture is followed by six Saturday match-ups. City gets the Hammers for lunch, be the hammer not the nail, be the hammer not the nail. Well expect this hammer to get his arse kicked by the nail. That bit of carpentry sees four 3pm kick-offs follow right after. And it is a who’s who of…eh, well just 8 teams who could be anywhere from really bad to ok. Bournemouth takes on Sheffield U’s, Burnley battles with Southampton to a boring draw, Palace tangle with an Everton who may have to outscore everyone to win and Watford vs the supposedly more attacking Seagulls. The late game sees Harry Kane score a hatty vs Aston Villa.

Sunday brings us our last three fixtures. An intriguing battle between Foxes and Wolves with many interested FPL owners watching closely. Simultaneously, we have another interesting game when the ever frugal Toon, battle the fake frugal Arsenal. The game-week is closed out by ‘buy anyone who will come here’ Man United vs ‘can’t buy anyone’ Chelsea.

      **Liverpool Team News**

Klopp confirms that Sadio Mane is in contention to start, “only two weeks off, so he hasn’t lost a lot of fitness.”

On the line-up against Norwich, “We have a lot of options and different line-ups….No player gave me any reason to leave them out.”

Klopp refused to comment on whether he was offered the chance to resign Coutinho.

      Farke on fitness/injuries:
“We had to react a bit. We have some injuries. Few defenders out, Alex Tettey out. We wanted someone versatile in. Ibrahim is great fit, he is young and greedy. He’s proved he can play at the top level.”
Timm Klose is out for tomorrow unfortunately. He hope to have him back for Newcastle.” Zimmerman and Thompson also out.

      Farke on signings:
“As a head coach, you always want to sign a striker for £40 million. But I’m happy with the business we’ve done.” Surely you could have got Ricky van Wolfswinkel for half that. 😉

      The gaffer’s comments on tactics:
‘We won’t go into games looking to park the bus. I can promise you that.’ :slaphead:

      **West Ham Team News**

Hammers gaffer had this to say on injuries:
“For the moment we have Mark Noble still injured and won’t be available, but all the other players are fit.”

Asked about the addition of Albian Ajeti this morning to the squad:
“We lost three strikers from last year’s squad, so he is a good striker to compete with Chicharito, Antonio and Haller for that position.
“I’m happy because we have completed the squad in the way we wanted. We have two players in each position and the best way is to have competition. We have done what we needed.”

      **Man City Team News**

      Pep on fitness/injuries:
On Sane: ‘I don’t know. Normally these kind of injuries, six to seven months. Hopefully in February or March he can come back with us.’

Mahrez and LaPorte are clear to play!

On Cancelo and Rodri: ‘Cancelo is not going to play. He arrived two days ago but he’s going to settle well, having played at an important team in Juventus. You are used to that mentality. Rodri, every day I’m more convinced that the deal we have done with him will be one of the best we have done in years.’ so Cancelo no and Rodri maybe, probably, WhoTF knows.

      Zinchenko owners beware:

        *removes Cancelo from team*

Any chance Pep goes to 3-5-2 and plays Laporte-Stones-Walker as CBs when Cancelo is ready?

        • Yeah, I could see that although he only played a 3 back once last season. He did trot out Walker as part of a back 3 in the past though. Could see a Cancelo and Mendy game where they are played as wing backs.

      • hammerfan_lm says:

no mention of Aguero/Jesus starting though sad

        • Did find it strange that he brought on Jesus on for Kun last week, could be that Gabriel is further along in terms of fitness. Guessing there could be a slightly better shot of Jesus starting over Kun than vice versa, but could just be reading that wrong.

          I hate Pep.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

I hate the fact that Aguero is still playing in the PL, and is fit. Makes it difficult to decide wheher to have him or not.
If I go Kane I will spend the money elsewhere and know that Aguero will score.
          Chance we take I suppose.
GW2 they play each other, so in some respects, its only 1 week to worry about

      **Sheffield United Team News**

On team’s injuries/fitness for the fixture:

      On a possible acquisition:
“At the top of the pitch we’re always looking for combinations, I just want a really good midfield player”

“It always seems to be the case, everyone leaves it to the last minute”

‘One deal sparks another deal so we’re waiting’

      Howe on fitness/injuries:
Steve Cook and Charlie Daniels have been out for a period of time but have come back looking very good. They’ve come back in and really given the squad a lift, which is good.”

“The long termers are still out and we have the fresh ones as well: David Brooks, Lloyd Kelly and Dan Gosling.” the long termers he speaks of are Francis, Lewis Cook and Stanislas.

Howe is excited about this squad:
“When everyone is back, it’s the best squad that I’ve had the privilege of managing here, we’ll work to get everyone back and we’re excited by that.” cue fighting for relegation. :punish:

      AT says:

      **BURNLEY TEAM NEWS**
Tarky [Tarkowski] and Kev Long have a strong chance of being available, they’ve both been back on the grass this week and both are feeling a lot easier.

Robbie [Brady] is touch and go, he’s struggling with his ribs, it’s a minor thing, an intercostal rib pain, or a line fracture – they both get treated the same, but it’s sore. So he’s the biggest doubt.

“And Steven [Defour] is still not there yet. He’s at the stage where he’s getting back on the grass jogging again.”

Charlie Taylor played 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday to build up fitness. Could be a risk for GW1.

      Saints on fitness/injuries:
By the looks of it Saints are fully fit, but Moussa Djenepo is perhaps a bit short on the tactical side according to the Hasenhüttl.

      The gaffer on signings/departures:
‘To make a signing just to make a signing is not our way.’ that just means don’t expect anyone. smile

On Charlie Austin’s possible departure, Hasenhüttl had this to say: :unknw:

      **EVERTON TEAM NEWS**

Fabian Delph is out, [Leighton] Baines started working this week but we’ll see.”

      On new signing Alex Iwobi:
“Iwobi can play from the left or behind the striker. He’s a strong player, fast player, with good skills and he puts good intensity into matches. He gives us different solutions.”
Shhh, no one tell him he was second choice to Zaha.

On Kurt Zouma’ s departure, Silva rather amusingly said: “He is no longer our player. It is not the best to talk about him”

Confidence is brimming over the centre-back options: “We tried to get different players also. Now we have to look for [Yerry] Mina, Michael [Keane] and Mason [Holgate] and work with them.”

      **Palace Team News**

      Palace fitness/injuries:
James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho and Jeff Schlupp are unavailable for tomorrow’s game. Kelly owners rejoice.

Cheikhou Kouyaté, Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew – will all be under consideration to make the matchday squad against Everton.

      **Brighton Team News**

      Potter on Fitness/injuries:
He basically said nothing, but we do know that Izquierdo, Bissouma and Schelotto are likely all out just based on their injuries.

Gaffer on what he is asking of his players:
“We try to encourage the players to be brave and understand what we’re asking them to do.” he sounds like David Wanger, this is going to be bad.

      Potter on his new striker:
Neal Maupay has settled in well, he’s come into the group and shown his quality. “It’s a good group to come into and he’s done well so far.”

      **Watford Team News**

      Gracia on fitness/injuries:
      On Deulofeu:
“He is perfect. He had a little problem and it was two weeks ago. He’s had time to recover and has been able to train with the team from the beginning of the week. He’s ready.” You better not be lying to me Javi!!

      Javi on Pereyra:
“Roberto is ready but he just needs time because this is only his second week of pre-season. He’s not in his best physical condition but he can still help the team by playing some minutes.” Off the bench then, by the sound of it.

“Some of them this week have little problems like Chalobah, like Domingos Quina, like Foulquier, like Penaranda but only little problems.”
“Maybe they won’t be able to play next game, but I’m sure for the next week they will be ready. The rest of the team all of them are fit to compete.”

      On Welbeck:
“Danny arrived this morning and he didn’t train with the rest of the team yet. I think he will be better to wait for the next games.”
