Fantasy Football Team Talk Injury Update

Team Talk Gameweek 1The fantasy manager profiles have been a bit of light hearted fun during the international break and we sincerely thank peakydave for orchestrating them and also all of the participants so far for your time, effort and brilliant answers. We shall endeavour to continue with these throughout the season as and when the opportunity presents itself. Whilst you have all been laughing at, or in some cases trying to figure out some of the jokes, there has actually been some football going on! And that’s not always good news as many, some or all of your fantasy squads have been on international duty. That often means injuries unfortunately! That’s the bad news. The good news is that we have been keeping an eye on it all for you and so here is a nice, handy, easy to read breakdown of any fresh injury concerns per team that have occurred so far. We have put our link to the Physio Room site at the end of the article and we recommend that you also visit there for up to date news and ‘return dates’ for players.

Arsenal – Mesut Ozil has been ruled out for up to three months with a knee injury while Laurent Koscielny withdrew from the French squad with a recurrence of his ongoing achilles injury. The positive news for the Gooners is that Theo Walcott has resumed training, though it is thought he will be gradually reintroduced by Wenger. Danny Welbeck turned his ankle while allegedly playing for England this evening – when substituted he went straight to the dressing room accompanied by the physio – however, Hodgson calmed fears somewhat by saying he didn’t think the injury was that bad and thinks the striker should be ok.

Aston Villa – Defender Philippe Senderos could be missing for a few weeks after picking up a thigh strain.

Burnley – On-loan defender Michael Keane will have a scan on a suspected hamstring injury which he picked up playing for England U21s.

Chelsea – Eden Hazard was withdrawn from the Belgium squad for Friday’s match vs Andorra with a toe injury that may be worse than first thought and could make him a doubt for GW8. According to the Belgium coach, the toe is blue, the nail has fallen off and Hazard cannot walk on it. Oscar, Willian and Filipe Luis all played 90mins for Brazil vs Argentina in Beijing on Saturday.

Crystal Palace – No fresh injury concerns.

Everton – defender John Stones has been ruled out for 10-14 weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage in the defeat at Old Trafford. The fit again Sylvain Distin or Antolin Alcaraz will slot in alongside Phil Jagielka. Ross Barkley is expected to rejoin first team training next week and Martinez hopes to have him available and in the squad in a fortnight or so. Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy continue to recover from injuries but the most positive outlook the manager can give is that he “expects them to play some part in the next block of six matches”.

Hull – No fresh injury concerns.

Leicester – No fresh injury concerns.

Liverpool – Daniel Sturridge has returned to full training and Rodgers hopes he will play some part, at the very least, in GW8 at QPR. However, Dejan Lovren sustained an abdominal injury in training with Croatia and has been ruled out of both of their internationals and early reports suggest he will be out of action for a fortnight. Emre Can should start training next week and, like Sturridge, is targeting a comeback in GW8. Glen Johnson continued his comeback, playing in a friendly for Liverpool on Friday. Lazar Markovic played just 26mins for Serbia before being replaced because of what looked like a torn muscle.

Man City – Stevan Jovetic limped off after 70mins of Montenegro’s draw with Liechtenstein which may cheer Dzeko owners! But don’t get too excited for the striker has since been given the all clear to play in midweek. In what may prove to be a bigger blow however, Vincent Kompany was forced to leave the field on Friday during Belgium’s win with a knee problem – the player felt the problem during the warm up although he has said he doesn’t expect the injury to be that serious – he is reported as saying, “All is well. Before the game i informed the coach of a few glitches. He decided to spare me and bring me off.” A word of caution – Sergio Aguero played 60mins for Argentina vs Brazil in Beijing on Saturday, while Martin Demichilis and Pablo Zabaleta both played 90mins – the Argies have another friendly vs Hong Kong on Tuesday – no injuries have been reported, just bear in mind City kick off in the early game on Saturday vs Spurs.

Man Utd – Michael Carrick, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are expected to be available for LVG for GW8, while Luke Shaw has shrugged off the dead knee he suffered vs Everton and played for England U21s. GW8 will likely come too soon for Johnny Evans and Ander Herrera.

Newcastle – Defenders Daryl Janmaat and Paul Dummett are both confident of shrugging off hamstring injuries in time for the visit of Leicester in GW8. Keeper Tim Krul has left the Dutch squad and returned to Newcastle for tests after picking up an elbow injury.

QPR – No fresh injury concerns.

Southampton – Graziano Pelle owners can breathe a sigh of relief as he was an unused sub for Italy on Friday.

Spurs – Keeper Hugo Lloris has been withdrawn from the French squad after picking up what is thought to be a minor groin injury. Full back Kyle Naughton faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the win over Southampton. With Kyle Walker still out, Eric Dier is expected to fill in at right back. Erik Lamela played 60mins for Argentina on Saturday and is likely to feature in Tuesday’s friendly vs Hong Kong.

Stoke – Victor Moses was ruled out of Nigeria’s qualifier with Sudan with a groin strain.

Swansea – Gylfi Sigurdsson picked up an ankle injury playing for Iceland – the midfielder carried on playing with pain killers but clearly an assessment will have to be made.

Sunderland – No fresh injury concerns.

West Brom – Striker Victor Anichebe won’t be rushed back, but is expected to return to light training soon. Brown Ideye is expected to return to training on Monday. Chris Brunt is a doubt for GW8 after sustaining a groin injury training with Northern Ireland.

West Ham – Carl Jenkinson withdrew from the England U21 squad with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

Please bear in mind that as some of these injuries are fresh and “hot off the press”, further  and more detailed news is expected during the week so keep your eyes peeled on the site and come Friday late afternoon an extensive GW8 Team Talk will bring you further and up-to-date news once the manager’s press conferences have taken place. Also be aware a new series of internationals is being held this week.

Need some help on the team guys. A second, third etc etc opinion would do me a hell lot of good. The poor start is really not up to the desired mark.

    Forster,Elliot

    Moreno,Moore,Van Aanholt,(Wisdom,Hutton)

    Sterling,Fabregas,Di maria,Sigurdsson

    Aguero,Welbeck,Diego Costa

(1 ft and 1.2m in the bank)
Should I do a Moreno swap to somebody say Azpiliqueta/Zabaleta? Or should I wait on the Siggy/Welbeck situation? Would gladly welcome some reviews on the team. Cheers guys !!

    Gents,

In bit of a dilemma. With Krul being injured would you either hold onto him even though my second GK is myhill or get rid which would involve the need for -8pt hit as I have already brought in welbeck!! My plan was to do -4pt hit next week downgrading tadic for Downing or someone similar and getting rid of Krul for Forster

This is my team at the moment

      Hi mitro,
For me, i definitely wouldn’t take an an extra -4 point hit for goalkeeper…this means to gain point profit your keeper will have to keep a CS or make an obscene amount of saves!! mannone seems solid at 4.5 and still rotates well with krul. I would keep krul by the way…doubt pardew will want to play elliot for many games if any!!!
I think tadic–> downing or diame would be a good move, as otherwise you will have to be benching either a striker (likely welbeck) or tadic/siggy, which makes a fair bit of cash!
I would use the extra money to beef up your defence….(look at init’s fixture table- really helpful)…keep clyne and look at chelsea, everton…and cheaper: chambers, moore/schlupp, keep duff.

        To be honest my defence have picking up 0’s and 1’s over the past few weeks so if Krul doesn’t play it aint that bad!! Yes long term plan is to do the following;

        Tadic to Downing/diame
        Krul to Forster
        McShane to azpillicueta

        This would give me

        Forster myhill
        Azpillicueta clyne Hutton wisdom
        ADM fab sterling siggy diame
        Welbeck Costa aguero
