Fantasy Premier League Set Piece Takers 2014-15

Tips Ok then so we saw quite a few requests for an updated ‘Set-Piece takers’ list on the comments recently and it jogged our memory that we hadn’t done one and as ever we took notice and decided to take action. We had a quick look around the offices of FF247 and found Eddy and Flingy slumped in the corner playing cards and a light bulb came on! So suddenly Eddy became our roving reporter and was whisked around the world to see all of the pre-season friendlies he could manage in order to bring you the latest set-piece table, while we locked Flingy in a darkened room, with Google as his only friend, to bring you the stats on last seasons set-piece specialists. Enjoy…

Please find below the FF247 Set Piece Takers List for 2014/15. This list is a guide that we hope will help you select players that have the potential to bring in goals and crucial assist points. The table is based on information gathered from last season’s games, Opta stats, pre-season friendlies and FF247 community input.

The article itself is archived under the tab at the top of the page entitled Tips/News and is linked under the drop down box ‘FPL SET-PIECE TAKERS 2014-15’ so you can refer back to it at any time, as are many of our other articles and helpful tools such as Fixture Tracker and Weekly Tips.

Please be aware that this list is subject to change due to player injuries, drop in form, suspensions, manager whims, etc. The list will be updated throughout the season and as ever we welcome anybody in our community to inform us if you are aware of any updated roles or indeed anything you think we have got wildly inaccurate! You’re not perfect and neither are we 😉

Players are listed in order of priority for each particular role –

So while Eddy was jet setting around the globe, Flingy was busy squirreling away to bring us the highlights of last season’s set-piece stats which are below for your perusal. The first deals with the players who had the ‘Most’ in each section. The second examines the teams themselves. We hope you find these both informative and helpful. There are obviously some players in there who are no longer with us (gone abroad, not died) and there are new players at some clubs who will take over some of these duties.

Aaah yes, most people should know this already: Fellaini, Kagawa, Nani, Anderson and Chicharito are out of van Gaal’s favor and will be booted out. laugh

Also, Vermaelen is going to Barca, not to United.

    Hi,

I’m new to this but I’ve manged to make a team.

    Thoughts?

    De Gea
    Vlaar Caulker Debuchy
    Sanchez Fabregas Young Henderson Ramsey
    Rooney Costa

    Bench: Krul Cameron Bruce Bojan

Good team. Few punts in there. Bojan could very well hold a steady striking record for Stoke but if he doesn’t get efficient goals/assists in 4/5 GW I’d swap him for another striker. This is also the same for Young. I’d monitor his minutes on field and if he starts. I’ve heard Shaw might be taking his position?

Saying this though, you may have picked some players who will bring in some decent differential points for your team early in the game. Both players have done decent enough in friendlies.

      Welcome Punitmann!!.

Interesting name. Is there a story (or Pun) in there somewhere?

Another Vlaar-lover I see. What am I missing?? Villa are a little bit leaky at the back are they not?
I’m not a QPR fan but I know a lot on here have gone Caulker (I assume because of his attacking potential). Maybe look to tweak Vlaar, Cameron and Bruce to get a trio that rotate nicely. Unless of course you’ve already done that, in which case I apologise! smile

I like the midfield. Young could do well but be aware of the rotation risk with Shaw. And they’re after that Colombian wide player, but not sure where exactly he’d fit in. Not sure if he has a defensive side to his game or not that could make him a challenger for Youngs place too.

The rest I like. Nice team. (Except Vlaar). 😉

      • Er…. yeah, I meant to mention earlier…. I really like the look of the rest of the Villa defense too. Vlaar isn’t so bad I suppose. And…. You’re allowed up to 3 players from the same team!! That’s right… Goodbye Caulker and Debuchy, and hello Mr Baker and Clark!!

You mean like that PVR? 😉

      • JimmyToffee says:

I get the Vlaar thing to an extent. £4.5m for a World Cup star and certain starter looks good value. Plus Villa’s first three fixtures of Stoke, Newcastle, Hull doesn’t look too daunting.

BUT, then they face last years top 6 in the space of 7 games. Surely you won’t want him in your 11 during that spell?!

So yes, I’d agree to maybe look into alternatives for your trio of Vlaar, Cameron & Bruce, particularly as Cameron and Bruce are not assured game time.

        Good luck.

        • Jimmy, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. – A lot of the Vlaar attention is off the back of a good world cup. But it’s not like he’s a striker that will still score goals in a bad team. He suffers points wise everytime Baker, Clark etc make a balls up and let an attacker through to score. No one defender can do it all on his own. Well, not since Martin Keown anyway.

      • punitmann says:

        thanks for your input guys!

i think i was concentrating more on my fowards and midfielders then my defenders. i just went for cheap options in the back.

any recommendation on who to switch Vlaar, Cameron and Bruce with?

        • That’s 2 x 4.5m and 1 x 4.0m so not a lot to play with.
If you’re set on Caulker (and annoyingly, I think i’m starting to come around to the idea!), then i’d probably go with Coloccini (Newc) and Van A (Sunderland) as they rotate nicely home and away all season. The 4.0m you could leave on Bruce (or take you pick from the slim pickings available – Kop wrote a good article on cheapies a week or so ago. You can find it on the home page).

Must be almost time for some of your “bored” antics Chins?

Oh and stop trying to put the new guys off Vlaar, he’s pure class at an even better team!!

    Mourinho says:

    Here’s the latest.

I’m ready to alter Dzeko to Jovetic depending on who’s more likely to start nearer the time.

    Any other thoughts?

      Mourinho says:

So no comments is a good thing???

      • Calvin Clyne says:

Sorry mate. Decent team, like Begovic in there. Not convinced with Fabregas, although many/most do seem to be. And I wouldn’t play a filler defender over Siggy regardless of his fixture smile

        • Mourinho says:

Cheers mate. Yeah I’d prefer the extra mill for Hazard but Fab has been decent so far so we’ll see.

U think sig has a better chance of scoring than wisdom does of getting an assist?

        • Calvin Clyne says:

You could also do a sideways move to either Ramsey or Silva. Even at home against relatively easy opponents, West Brom do not exactly rack up the clean sheets, so yes, I’d say Siggy is more likely to get something out of the game. I’m of the view though that clean sheets are always capped at 4, so I’d rather take a bit of a risk on the off-chance a good mid gets more than one goal or assist in a tricky game – I can stomach losing a clean sheet on the bench once in a while, but double figures kills me!

      • Andy says:

No but most people are viewing the latest article so this would have been missed, this will be a 3-4-3 not a 4-3-3 as I’m not sure either Dummett or Wisdom will get much game time, I think were going to really struggle finding starting defenders for 4.0 this season, word round the camp fire is Hutton at Villa might be getting to start for 4.0 but that leaves you with a bigger problem, a Villa defender. Looks a good squad though

        • Mourinho says:

          Cheers I’ll have a look.

As a newcastle supporter I expect dummet to start. He’s in pole position but haidara could have a slight chance of takingthat if he plays out of his skin in the remaining games

        • Andy says:

I was reading (before Santons injury) that they might be letting Dummett go on loan to a championship team though admittedly I’ve not followed much of NUFC’s preseason games. Santon’s not out for long though is he? Mid Septemberish on FPL.

    mstreet says:

Hey guys, this is the second season I play FPL, hopefully will pay much more attention to it this time. Below is the current version of the squad, I decided to gamble that QPR will not receive a goal in the first match at home with 3 players in the back. Will transfer Ferdinand afterwards.

Will play 3-4-3 most of the season

    Speroni-Green
    Ferdinand-Caulker-Clyne-Bruce-Pieters
    Drinkwater-Sanchez-Lamela-Sterling-Young
    Rooney-Costa-Jovetic
