Fantasy World Cup Live Match Chat Day 8

Oki doki we’re getting the hang of this now. The Champions are old, rubbish and are the first team to be knocked out of the tournament, Iranians score better than the Portuguese, Brazil are toothless without Ronaldinho, Ozil and Lukaku are about as reliable in this as they are in FPL and even the Yanks have produced a win – Chins must be bringing them some beginners’s luck.

Today sees the 2nd round of games in Group C and we kick off with what could be one of the games of the tournament so far as those sniffling, snorting Colombians meet Ivory Coast – with both sides having won their opening fixture whoever wins this will have one foot into the next round. The late game sees Japan play Greece, both of whom will be looking for their first win and to keep their tournament hopes alive – the loser alas will likely be flying home.

Sandwiched between the above two games is the big one for many of us as Woy’s Boys take on Uruguay. A must win game for both teams and many eyes will be on selection as we wait to see if Suarez is passed fit while for England, there have been some calling for Rooney to be dropped. For the Goofy one, if he plays, it’ll be a chance for him to test himself vs a few of his talented Liverpool team mates…..and Glen Johnson.

Well good luck, hope your players perform, careful on those formations now.

Thanks for reading Fantasy World Cup Live Match Chat Day 8 – Good luck everyone!

For the attention of England strikers!! Watch Uruguays second goal, that is how u strike a ball stop trying to bend it into the corners or clever little toe pokes, just put ur bloody laces through it!!!! 😉

Hi elleffcee I live Lancashire as a young lad ( a long time ago ) my hero was Nat Lofthouse . Went into work all week and played on sat. His England goal scoring for England is still up with best. It would be good to see these lads play with the old leather case ball when wet, when you headed the ball your head disappeared between your shoulder blades . Good old days!!!

effeffcee. I do not type quickly enough to reminisce back to tonight could, should do better very disappointing, first half slow, appeared as if they did not know one another second half a little better but if this is the best we can do, well we can try again in 2 years and the kids hopefully will be more experienced and just maybe someone might explain to them to win you must play in the opponents bit of the field a little more .

Alsed, do you not feel the kids aspect has been over played? Other than Sterling and Sturridge, I wouldnt call any of the starting team as kids and Sturridge is at the make or break stage. Personally I would probably played Wilshire instead of Henderson, and Lallana over Welbeck. I still think Barkley should be held in reserve. I think at this stage he is a 10 or nothing. Not disciplined enough as a winger. In hindsight, Cole should have been in the squad (and team). I also thought Lambert should have been given 20 mins in prob both games. Surprised how poor Gerrard has been.

      • Mutley says:

I think you’ll find Gerrards form has been been down to Roy Hodgeson, playing him too deep IMO, you have to let a player like Gerrard PLAY. ( and as for the second goal by Suarez, it’s nothing to do with Gerrard, blame the defence for letting him go!)

Not a lover of Henderson, BUT again, i think Roy Hodgeson has TRIED (rightly or wrongly) to get some consistency in midfield as he and Gerrard have played together all season. It’s not what i would have done, but i can see his thinking.

Wellbecks workrate is always good, but not quite sure if he has the quality at premiership/international level.

When the squad was announced i was over the moon, a young squad, with a chance to gel, if not now, but for the future.

The problem at the world cup is that you are judged on results, IMO it should have been announced this year, that we are building for the future, we are going to play a young team, we may get trounced, but it’s for the long term. We should then have lined up as follows.

And i’ll get slated for this line up and where i play some players!!!!!

        …………………………….Hart………………………………
        ……….(someone), Phil Jones, Baines
Sterling, The Ox, Wilshere, Berkely, Shaw.
        …………………….Rooney………………………………….
        ………………………….Sturridge………………………….

Where i say someone, out of the players he took, it would have to be Smalling, but don’t think he is the long term choice.

Fill your boots guys, rip my selection to bits!/ slate me for Sterlings position!,but most of all, give me your line up. smile

Use your experienced/older players for the last half hour of the games from the bench.

Like i say, i think i may get ripped for posting this, but seriously, it is what i would have done.

Hart yes , i think england deferencely need to go back to if in doubt kick it out , if we had a southgate, dixon & adams yes donkeys !! as a Liverpool fan i don’t Johnson as a premier league def , let alone international , in one word JANK

        • Bench@BanterburyLeagues says:

full backs , these days all want to be Garth Bale , defending is a trade , and for me that’s where England have up !!

        • TheDreamers says:

          Mutley,

I dont think the English team can handle a 3 at the back. Being simplistic I’d play a ball playing CB and a bruiser if possible. That means 1 from jagielka, Jones or Cahill. I see no obvious ball playing CB. If playing Baines, you have to play to his strengths. Attack. Its more style than players. On the right, because I dont know the younger players, its Smalling or Johnson. Flanagan is not close, nor John Stones.

Rooney 4 years ago was class. In the 10 position. Its him or Barkley for me. I think Lallana deserves a shot. I think Gerrrard, Wilshere as centre mid, Lallana and Sterling on wing and Rooney and Sturridge up front is the way to go. Its more the direction than the players imho

        • Bench@BanterburyLeagues says:

have to disagree , England have been drawen in to the tika taka Spanish way, one thing, i hope us English are good at is giving 110% , Banies & Johnson where are problem ! rubbish defenders ! okish going forward

TheDreamers good argument yes but Wiltshire ? Can’t take big tackles and how about John Terry he would have been handy tonight

They havent scored enough. Wiltshire helps from a creativity perspective. John Terry certainly is a leader. But team spirit and morale are a huge part of todays game. Bringing Terry back would damage that in my opinion.
