And Shaw signs for Man Utd.

    So he’s rotating with Evra?

    • 13.1
      NIN says:

TGP – I expect both Shaw and Evra to be first 11. Van Gaal likes the 5-3-2 formation which would fit our squad and allow Shaw to play as a wing back with Evra as the left of three center backs. At least that’s what i think will happen.

      • NIN

Possible. I like Shaw’s role in that but would be a bit worried about Evra in that role purely because of him being used to playing in a four and being the overlap. Part of a back three would require a bit more discipline would you not agree?

        • NIN says:

Yeah it definitely requires more discipline but he’s very experienced now and will be working under the strictest of managers, so he’ll have to have his shit together. I think the 5-3-2 suits us. Once the players take to it of course but they don’t have a choice as Louis doesn’t do half assed.

      • Raziel says:

Van Gaal doesn’t like the 5-3-2 formation but it’s the only formation possible with the current Dutch squad. Our defense is just too weak for 4-3-3 at the moment, with Strootman injured van Gaal changed systems. Against his philosophy, this is a change for him. He said modern football has changed, you have to build a team to their quality (and lack of quality).

Don’t see why van Gaal would play 5-3-2 with United if he has 100m to spend. Buying Shaw en keeping Evra for another season is a f-ing waste of money. Crazy.

        • NIN says:

No it isn’t. He’s used that formation for a long time. 4-3-3 doesn’t suit our players at all. Fat boy is useless out wide. I think he’ll go 5-3-2 and use Fatso as a mid with Herrera. Mata and van Persie up top with anyone’s guess in behind. maybe Shinji.

        • Raziel says:

He could play 5-3-2, that’s not it. But we’re used to get attractive football from him. At the moment he’s playing defensively because we lack quality. If United play 5-3-2 you automatically say it lacks quality. 😉

Plus, sorry. Rooney is no Robben. Same for Mata. Way too slow. You really need someone like Robben if you want that system to work, and he needs to be in form as well. If not, the system will be a complete failure.

I think United need to get rid of either Mata, RvP or Rooney. Those 3 in the same team just don’t work.

Anyway, crazy United paid so much for Shaw. Insane!

        • Raziel says:

Also, I think United should be the playmaking team, not the other teams. 5-3-2 works great against the bigger teams in the CL and in the EPL, but against teams like Crystal you need to make play. So you either have to play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.

        • NIN says:

Well, we do lack quality! Our wingers are poison and the center mid’s aren’t much better, maybe even worse.

        • Raziel says:

By the way, I noticed RvP is a completely different player from the one that played under Moyes.

I was very skeptical about him but he’s proven me wrong. Also got a good bond with Louis van Gaal. Don’t think he wanted to play for Moyes at all.

Think if he uses the wallet the right way he could build a good United squad again. However, 38 Mil for Shaw? That’s just crazy. Now he only has 60m left? You need another experienced defender (like Hummels, which will be around 30-40m) and a central/def mid and maybe a winger.

        • NIN says:

Raz – Yeah van Persie looks a new man. I think you’re right about him not liking Moyes, haha. I do expect us to sign a center back and another mid. We’re rumored to be in for Vidal. If that was to go through then it’d be a banker that we’d play 5-3-2, for me.

        • Raziel says:

Either Vidal or Strootman would be awesome. I’d go with Vidal since he’s not injured at the moment. Hummels is also a must.

        • NIN says:

Hummels is going nowhere. We want to sign him but he said he’s staying at Dortmund. We shall see. There’s plenty of good defenders out there so we don’t really HAVE to spend big. Even someone like Caulker would be a good signing.

        • wolf pack says:

How about Affelay ? could tie up with RvP nicely at United, for €2M…. Bargain.

        • wolf pack says:

          Or Memphis Depay….

        • NIN says:

Depay looks a good player. Still very young too which is good. Afellay would be a bit dodgy i think.

    • 13.2

      Raz/NIN

      Good discussion.

I don’t think Shaw is a particularly bad investment. He is bought as the long-term left back. Evra may only play one more season and Butter is now gone too.

LVG and RVP relationship looks particularly strong and there’s no doubt LVG will be building a team with him as the focal point.

I’m surprised Nani had lasted this long and Cleverely isn’t the answer in midfield. Herrera looks the answer to that problem.

I expect a strong challenge this season from Man Utd and I think LVG is an excellent appointment.

      • Raziel says:

Good future investment. However, I think the prices are crazy at the moment. What you think the defense will be this year? Which defenders are United standard? Evans and Jones? You do really need someone like Hummels.

      • NIN says:

TGP – I’m starting to feel confident about United now for the first time in a long time! Hopefully Nani leaves. Same goes for many others though.

        • Raziel says:

Buttner left butthurt. The kid lacks brains. He figured, I better leave now before Louis returns. He’s mad Louis never gave him a chance at Holland. HAHAHA. Dude, you’re not good enough. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now off to Russia you go. laugh

        • NIN says:

Hahaha i’d be asking questions of Louis if he brought Buttner! Thankfully he knows better.

Tekno-kun (The 69er, Winner of Potty's 1st ever Twitter Comp; twice CL Comp winner, current profession: mage, formerly: big bad dawg; hallway monitor; tranny; wannabe Nazi commander) says:

Guys, want some tips concerning my strikers.

    Neymar (37 pts, 9m, Chile)
    Muller (36 pts, 8m, Algerie)
    Messi (35 pts, 10m, Switzerland)
    Benzema (34 pts, 8.5m, Nigeria)
    Robben (33 pts, 9m, Mexico)

Which 3 of these 5 would you select? Please give reasons as well. Thanks.

      The B says:

Muller (surrounded by awesome team, and has an unconvincing opponent), Neymar (home ground, proven goal scorer) and Messi (cause he is Messi!)

      • Tekno-kun (The 69er, Winner of Potty's 1st ever Twitter Comp; twice CL Comp winner, current profession: mage, formerly: big bad dawg; hallway monitor; tranny; wannabe Nazi commander) says:

        B
Agree with Müller and Messi, however not so sure about Neymar. I rate France over Brazil and also I think Brazil will struggle and get knocked out by Chile, while France will probably beat Nigeria comfortably. So I’m currently leaning towards Benzema myself.

        • The B says:

Neymar is an overall McD player. Even if he does not score, he will rack up points with his corners.

        • Raziel says:

If the ref and the fifa keep it fair, Chili could win the game though. So might be the last game you can use Neymar. 😉

        • Calvin Clyne says:

I don’t believe the corners count as balls delivered into the box, he had loads of corners in GW1 and did not get awarded with as many points as he would have done if they counted for balls delivered too.

        • photek says:

If Brazil go out you can transfer Neymar out after the Last 16.
I’m keeping him personally because i think Brazil will just win a tight game.

        • The B says:

          Calvin

Sure they do, but they have to be successful deliveries, meaning that they should make first contact with a friendly player.

So, my opponent is then M&B.

My friend, time to book a flight back to your homeland.

And a personal message to Chins:
It has been a pleasure competing with you. Last time i checked, we both were tied at first spot and I think Potty used alphabetical order to decide the ties. If only we could meet in knockouts again, we would have a rematch over and over.
