FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5
Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5. We compiled 60 points this week and that put us 16 points above the average. The GW rank was 500K, but it felt better than that as we jumped from 600k to 170k in the overall. With our captain Lukaku scoring, Kane grabbing a brace and Groß with a huge 18 point haul it was a good game-week for us all in all, well except for the Davies controversy. As some of you might know there was a late question posed to us from a member on the board asking why we were benching Davies instead of Ince. Some of us feeling that maybe that should be brought up again asked for a revote. It was an awkward affair as somehow Alonso was brought up again as the reason why we even had Ince and couldn’t afford a decent midfielder. Two voted yes, one no, the other seemed to be in favour of bringing in Davies, but didn’t seem firm and the fifth member disappeared as he always does when he is asked to cast an important vote.
Here was in part the convo that went on:
Anonymous 1 “Someone suggested we play Ben Davies instead of Ince – not a bad shout?”
Anonymous 2 “Hmmm”
Anonymous 3 “Spurs play Everton?”
Anonymous 2 “Yeah”
Anonymous 3 “Everton doesn’t seem to score much”
Anonymous 2 “Nope”
Anonymous 3 “Makes sense to me”
Anonymous 1 “Grumpy?”
Grumpy “What?”
Anonymous 1 “Ben Davies”
Grumpy “Sell him. Buy another Alonso.”
We skip around to where it resumes:
Grumpy “That should be a low scoring game”
Anonymous 1 “Is that a ‘yes’ to play Davies?”
Grumpy “No”
Anonymous 3 “Davies is no Alonso” (sarcastic)
Anonymous 2 “I vote for Davies”
A bit later:
Anonymous 2 “I say go Davies”
Anonymous 1 “Me too – but I’m interested in your reasons not to Grumpy, esp after calling Everton-Spurs a low scorer?”
Grumpy gives his reasoning and well we ended up on Ince. FFS!
Oh well, as we move onto game-week 5 we have 0.9 in the bank and 2 free transfers. So let’s move on and see what we decided to try and do to improve our team.
Here’s our team as it looked after last week…
Just the 24 on the bench then…
22 of which could have replaced 3 on the pitch for a 19 point improvement and a 79 point finish with some better choices.
C’est la vie.
Transfer(s) for GW5
We have sold Paul Pogba and Tom Ince and bought Dele Alli and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
We had 2fts and 0.9mln in the bank. Pogba’s midweek hamstring injury meant he had to go while Ince has done nothing to suggest we should keep faith in him. Ideally we would have bought Christian Eriksen but we were just shy of affording him so we plumped for Dele Alli instead – we’re not that sorry, after all Alli is getting plenty of rest as he is currently banned from the Champions League and about to be banned from playing for England soon also if FIFA get their way. And they generally do. Spurs fixtures are great and last weekend’s impressive win at Everton coupled with their midweek win over Dortmund suggests they are running into form just as their fixtures turn for the better. Choupo-Moting announced himself with a brace vs a United defence that had proved unpenetrable prior to last weekend. It may be a case of ‘chasing last week’s points’ but until we wildcard and release some cash elsewhere we are somewhat hamstrung with who we can afford. However, El Choupo costs just 5.5mln, is an OOP player playing up front and has impressed in a side that is crying out for a goal scorer. So we’re happy to give him a chance and let’s be honest, he can’t do worse than Ince!
Our Captain is Harry Kane
Bit route one but that’s what the captain is there for isn’t it, occasions like this when a striker is suddenly bang in form and facing a struggling side at home. We’ve all been here with Kane a few times last season though, with the exact same scenario and been trolled by him big time. We’ve also seen him produce accordingly in such games, big time.
The team in full
And so this is how we line up ahead of GW5…

The League Codes for FF247 for the 2017/18 season are as follows:
Gameweek Tracker GW5-11
Who to Captain?
Captain Alli a good shout?
Elliot
Dawson Davies Yoshida
Groß Ritchie Eriksen Alli
Firmino Jesus Lukaku
Forster T.Carroll Mee Hunemeier
Nothing wrong with that LRL.
I thought Firmino was excellent on Wednesday so if I didn’t have Kane he would be my pick but any Spurs coverage for (C) should give you a pleasant weekend. I hope.
Cheers
Tough call there LRL. I’d be inclined to look at the Spurs match, so toss of a coin between Eriksen & Alli. Alli is fresh after a midweek rest. My cappo decision is between Alli, Salah & Morata. It’s currently on Alli and I think it’ll be staying there.
I’m surprised we’ve not had any calls for cappo Davies yet!
Thanks. Think I’ll stick with Alli coz he is fresh.
Name and shame! 😉
Team looks strong there lads. Should be another high scoring week.
Sorry to repeat last nights question, but I received two contradicting answers, so thought I’d ask again. Which one should I bench out of these three?
Simpson – HUD (A)
Hegazi – WHU (H)
Richarlison – MCI (H)
Thanks.
It’s a tough call but Richarlison for me Banjo. I think the other 2 have a better chance of keeping a CS than he has of scoring.
I would bench Richarlison but it’s a coin toss really.
Richarlison or Hegazi
Thanks guys. Looks like Richarlison is getting benched then!
Morning all…
Little tip for you, I had a little look at Spurs vs Swansea history and I found that Christian Eriksen has a rather good record against them.
6 goals in the last 6 games the Dane has against the Swans. Obviously Wembley changes things slightly but if you were caught in the which Spurs midfielder to bring in dilemma this could help.
Interesting. I was checking out Spurs free-scoring record against them this morning, but didn’t notice Eriksen in particular. I’m just hoping it’s Alli’s turn 😉
Yeah I’ve been struggling with Eriksen vs Alli all week for my WC and I figured I would give Eriksen the nod after reading that. I’m sure Alli will now grab a brace this weekend lol.
My thinking of it is that Alli is more explosive so if you’re Kaneless, he’s the best option as you can captain him and hope for a high score. If you do have Kane however you’re unlikely to captain Alli so the steady consistent returns Eriksen provides may be a better option.
Posted something similar earlier in the week to convince myself I didn’t need Kane, but having brought Alli in for a -4 and knowing he will play the full 90 while Eriksen may only get 70/75 (interestingly his 3 goals against Swans last year all came after the 85th minute) I think I have to captain him.
Would rather Eriksen though, I own both and Davies (also tempting aha)
Morning all ! Thoughts on these moves please ? Mane to Ritchie and Mounie to Firmino for -4 ? Ritchie has some decent upcoming fixtutes and Mounie is carrying a knock and has tough upcoming fixtures plus ive wanted Firmino for a while.Leaves me enough in the bank to do Stephens to Kola next week.Or should I just do Mane to Salah ? Would only leave me .7m in the bank to sort Mounie out though and there isnt much choice at all in that price range.Cheers.
Wouldn’t really be Mounie For Nothing any more then would it Brooky?!
I think they all make sense. Salah would be the obvious move but with the knock on effect elsewhere I think your plan is a good one and well thought out.
Well at the moment it’s Nothing for Mounie !!
Yeah cheers mate.Obvious move was the Salah one,but I’ve been bouncing between both all week.Really like the idea of having Kola for those 3 tasty fixtures though !!
I like those moves Brooky. Ritchie’s on 3 yellow cards but I’d expect him to calm down the next few games after escaping a possible red the other day. He’s got 2 assists in the last 2 games but he’s been unlucky not to add a goal to his tally as well.
Yeah thanks Milburn, heard that Ritchie had been close to getting on the score sheet plus ft’s and pens in his locker and your lot seem to be picking up now ?
Hopefully mate. As you say there’s a few winnable fixtures coming up so fingers crossed we can keep the momentum going.
Fellaini as fourth mid while Pogba is out, anyone? Surely he has a higher chance to score than Doucoure, who is the flavor of the month and you a bagging in some money as he is just 4.9M
+1 on that, don’t think Fellaini’s scoring record was too bad last season when he started.
Funny you say that…
Exactly, innit. Last season he was playing a different role. Having Matic behind gives him the opportunity to be more present in and around the box, where he is quite strong. Plus Everton’s two defensive displays were abysmal. In any case, I think he has the highest chance to score among all the 4.5~5.2 mids and could be a nice differential.
