FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5

Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5. We compiled 60 points this week and that put us 16 points above the average. The GW rank was 500K, but it felt better than that as we jumped from 600k to 170k in the overall. With our captain Lukaku scoring, Kane grabbing a brace and Groß with a huge 18 point haul it was a good game-week for us all in all, well except for the Davies controversy. As some of you might know there was a late question posed to us from a member on the board asking why we were benching Davies instead of Ince. Some of us feeling that maybe that should be brought up again asked for a revote. It was an awkward affair as somehow Alonso was brought up again as the reason why we even had Ince and couldn’t afford a decent midfielder. Two voted yes, one no, the other seemed to be in favour of bringing in Davies, but didn’t seem firm and the fifth member disappeared as he always does when he is asked to cast an important vote.

Here was in part the convo that went on:
Anonymous 1 “Someone suggested we play Ben Davies instead of Ince – not a bad shout?”
Anonymous 2 “Hmmm”
Anonymous 3 “Spurs play Everton?”
Anonymous 2 “Yeah”
Anonymous 3 “Everton doesn’t seem to score much”
Anonymous 2 “Nope”
Anonymous 3 “Makes sense to me”
Anonymous 1 “Grumpy?”
Grumpy “What?”
Anonymous 1 “Ben Davies”
Grumpy “Sell him. Buy another Alonso.”

We skip around to where it resumes:
Grumpy “That should be a low scoring game”
Anonymous 1 “Is that a ‘yes’ to play Davies?”
Grumpy “No”
Anonymous 3 “Davies is no Alonso” (sarcastic)
Anonymous 2 “I vote for Davies”

A bit later:
Anonymous 2 “I say go Davies”
Anonymous 1 “Me too – but I’m interested in your reasons not to Grumpy, esp after calling Everton-Spurs a low scorer?”
Grumpy gives his reasoning and well we ended up on Ince. FFS!

Oh well, as we move onto game-week 5 we have 0.9 in the bank and 2 free transfers. So let’s move on and see what we decided to try and do to improve our team.

Here’s our team as it looked after last week…
Just the 24 on the bench then…

22 of which could have replaced 3 on the pitch for a 19 point improvement and a 79 point finish with some better choices.

C’est la vie.

Transfer(s) for GW5
We have sold Paul Pogba and Tom Ince and bought Dele Alli and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
We had 2fts and 0.9mln in the bank. Pogba’s midweek hamstring injury meant he had to go while Ince has done nothing to suggest we should keep faith in him. Ideally we would have bought Christian Eriksen but we were just shy of affording him so we plumped for Dele Alli instead – we’re not that sorry, after all Alli is getting plenty of rest as he is currently banned from the Champions League and about to be banned from playing for England soon also if FIFA get their way. And they generally do. Spurs fixtures are great and last weekend’s impressive win at Everton coupled with their midweek win over Dortmund suggests they are running into form just as their fixtures turn for the better. Choupo-Moting announced himself with a brace vs a United defence that had proved unpenetrable prior to last weekend. It may be a case of ‘chasing last week’s points’ but until we wildcard and release some cash elsewhere we are somewhat hamstrung with who we can afford. However, El Choupo costs just 5.5mln, is an OOP player playing up front and has impressed in a side that is crying out for a goal scorer. So we’re happy to give him a chance and let’s be honest, he can’t do worse than Ince!

Our Captain is Harry Kane
Bit route one but that’s what the captain is there for isn’t it, occasions like this when a striker is suddenly bang in form and facing a struggling side at home. We’ve all been here with Kane a few times last season though, with the exact same scenario and been trolled by him big time. We’ve also seen him produce accordingly in such games, big time.

The team in full
And so this is how we line up ahead of GW5…

Shout out to all article writers this week. Having a busy one but got to read them all and benefited from the invaluable info as ever. Went early and a bit maverick yesterday night to prevent possible price changes for Kane and Gabi and sold Romelu and bought Hemed. Hemed is obviously a risk and means a 3-5-2 here and there, but I can’t ignore Kane anymore on don’t want to use the WC Just now. What you reckon, good moves or dumb ones? No hit involved. Cheers everyone and good luck.

Is anyone taking a Punt on Hazard at all?
Im wildcarding this week and its a choice between davies/Miki or Hazard and a cheap (er) defender.
I would have the funds to drop Miki for Hazard when i have built up the FT in a couple of weeks but not sure i want to miss out on points.
We’ve all seen what Hazard can do against Arsenal, especially if he wants to prove a point coming back from injury…

I can see a WC in the horizont if Haz and Alexis start firing. That will probably mean a 3-5-2 too so no need to rush it until it’s clear they are in fact cruising. That said, if it’s just a one move to get Haz for a KDB I don’t see why not. If he’s ‘confirmed’ to start.

    Hi all,
I have been rolling with 442 this season and have made a decent start.
Unfortunately the wheels have come off my defence and could only play 2 of them last GW.
This week I may be down to just one if Stephens and Yoshida dont play.

I have the same problem as everyone else, not enough money.
I am looking at four options
    A. Kompany and Stephens out for Lascelles (or other 4.5) and Wimmer for a -4. Then next Gw get in Alonso in for Yoshida.
B Kompany and Stephens out for Lascelles (or other 4.5) and Kolasinac in for a -4. Are Arsenal likely to keep cleanies?
C Kompany and Stephens out for Lascelles (or other 4.5) and Mendy in for a -4 for City’s good fixtures
    Is Mendy nailed??
D Kompany out for Lascelles etc and hope one of the Soton defenders play. Then transfer them out one at a time.

I could do with some opinions/ advice on this.

    Cheers

      Red Robbo says:

If you want to avoid a hit then just sell go for option D and sell Kompany as Stephens and Yoshida are probably in direct competition for a place so one or the other of them should play, which will give you three playing defs. All your Mids should play and your big 2 up top so can’t see any reason you won’t have 11 playing unless somebody gets rested after Europe, which will happen to plenty of others as well so not really a huge issue.

      • Horse says:

        Cheers Red.

Any preference for a big hitter at the back?

        • Red Robbo says:

After this GW is out of the way, ARS have great fixtures so possibly Kolasinac for the additional attacking threat, or Everton to save a bit of money with Williams or Keane. I’m waiting to build up some extra team value before considering Alonso and Chelski still have a tough(ish) run of fixtures so happy to wait a few weeks for him when I get round to wildcarding.

Scummer number 1 and scummer number 2 out… anyone else in 😉

That aside, if you can get Kolasinac in there I’d advise that. I can see him scoring big in the coming weeks.

So surprise news…. Pogba is injured!
Thoughts on what I should do?
    DDG Elliot
    Hegazi Alonso Cedric Suttner Mason
    Pogba D.Silva Willian Atsu Carroll
    Lukaku Firmino Kane
0m itb and 1FT (im fine taking a hit)

Thinking Pogba and Willian out for Alli and GroB?
