FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5

Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Team Gameweek 5. We compiled 60 points this week and that put us 16 points above the average. The GW rank was 500K, but it felt better than that as we jumped from 600k to 170k in the overall. With our captain Lukaku scoring, Kane grabbing a brace and Groß with a huge 18 point haul it was a good game-week for us all in all, well except for the Davies controversy. As some of you might know there was a late question posed to us from a member on the board asking why we were benching Davies instead of Ince. Some of us feeling that maybe that should be brought up again asked for a revote. It was an awkward affair as somehow Alonso was brought up again as the reason why we even had Ince and couldn’t afford a decent midfielder. Two voted yes, one no, the other seemed to be in favour of bringing in Davies, but didn’t seem firm and the fifth member disappeared as he always does when he is asked to cast an important vote.

Here was in part the convo that went on:
Anonymous 1 “Someone suggested we play Ben Davies instead of Ince – not a bad shout?”
Anonymous 2 “Hmmm”
Anonymous 3 “Spurs play Everton?”
Anonymous 2 “Yeah”
Anonymous 3 “Everton doesn’t seem to score much”
Anonymous 2 “Nope”
Anonymous 3 “Makes sense to me”
Anonymous 1 “Grumpy?”
Grumpy “What?”
Anonymous 1 “Ben Davies”
Grumpy “Sell him. Buy another Alonso.”

We skip around to where it resumes:
Grumpy “That should be a low scoring game”
Anonymous 1 “Is that a ‘yes’ to play Davies?”
Grumpy “No”
Anonymous 3 “Davies is no Alonso” (sarcastic)
Anonymous 2 “I vote for Davies”

A bit later:
Anonymous 2 “I say go Davies”
Anonymous 1 “Me too – but I’m interested in your reasons not to Grumpy, esp after calling Everton-Spurs a low scorer?”
Grumpy gives his reasoning and well we ended up on Ince. FFS!

Oh well, as we move onto game-week 5 we have 0.9 in the bank and 2 free transfers. So let’s move on and see what we decided to try and do to improve our team.

Here’s our team as it looked after last week…
Just the 24 on the bench then…

22 of which could have replaced 3 on the pitch for a 19 point improvement and a 79 point finish with some better choices.

C’est la vie.

Transfer(s) for GW5
We have sold Paul Pogba and Tom Ince and bought Dele Alli and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
We had 2fts and 0.9mln in the bank. Pogba’s midweek hamstring injury meant he had to go while Ince has done nothing to suggest we should keep faith in him. Ideally we would have bought Christian Eriksen but we were just shy of affording him so we plumped for Dele Alli instead – we’re not that sorry, after all Alli is getting plenty of rest as he is currently banned from the Champions League and about to be banned from playing for England soon also if FIFA get their way. And they generally do. Spurs fixtures are great and last weekend’s impressive win at Everton coupled with their midweek win over Dortmund suggests they are running into form just as their fixtures turn for the better. Choupo-Moting announced himself with a brace vs a United defence that had proved unpenetrable prior to last weekend. It may be a case of ‘chasing last week’s points’ but until we wildcard and release some cash elsewhere we are somewhat hamstrung with who we can afford. However, El Choupo costs just 5.5mln, is an OOP player playing up front and has impressed in a side that is crying out for a goal scorer. So we’re happy to give him a chance and let’s be honest, he can’t do worse than Ince!

Our Captain is Harry Kane
Bit route one but that’s what the captain is there for isn’t it, occasions like this when a striker is suddenly bang in form and facing a struggling side at home. We’ve all been here with Kane a few times last season though, with the exact same scenario and been trolled by him big time. We’ve also seen him produce accordingly in such games, big time.

The team in full
And so this is how we line up ahead of GW5…

Could use some help getting this WC finalized. A few positions where I’m still not settled. Obviously answers to each question have repercussions for others with budget…
    1. Morata or Jesus?
    2. Mahrez/DSilva/Salah?
    3. Maguire & Marriapa or Lascelles & 4.5?
    4. Doucourie or Gros?

      RITZ says:

      Hi Pancho,

      1. Believe that they will have pretty similar output over the next weeks. Morata is cheaper and the money might help you out in other areas. Apart from that, no City cover will undoubtably come back to haunt you.
      2. I just opted for Mahrez myself, mainly due to good underlying stats and the fact I was looking for a differential. Salah is probably the safest bet out of those, but again the most expensive option.
      3. I support having one 4.0 player and Mariappa might be looking at some gametime now with injuries. So first one for me.
      4. 50/50. Both will se price increases, Doucoure has delievered in 2 out of 4 matches while Gross only 1. Slightly leaning towards Doucoure.

      1. Jesus, better fixtures.
      2. Salah. Silva probably rotates with City’s midfield strength in depth, Mahrez overpriced for his lack of consistency.
      3. Lascelles and Simpson. Watched Lascelles first hand when he came to ours and looked class, he’ll be pushing for a WC spot if he stays fit. Simmo covers Maguires CS at least.
      4. Gris for his assist record in Germany.

    Hi all,

Worth a -4 to get Choupo-Moting in for Ince? Ince is due a fall in price as well..

      Pancho says:

You never know Ritz. What I do know is that either one could score a few and make you regret not having them. I do see goals in that NUFC vs Stoke match though.

      • Rosco77 says:

        Hopefully for my lot Pancho!!

        • Pancho says:

Rosco, I don’t think I’ve ever been “excited” to watch Stoke play (unless it was Spurs) because it’s always been so boring and bruising. But I think they’re playing more expansively, which just makes it t exciting. I think your boys could put 2 or 3 past them, but they’ve got a bunch of weapons too. I’m honestly kinda tempted by Shaqiri on my WC. He’s only 5.9! GL to the black and white stripes though!

        • Rosco77 says:

Don’t do it Pancho! He’s always let’s you down, such a good player but his form is too patchy for me, stoke always seem to be have players like him, Annie was another. I’m staying away from Moting and Jese unless I see consistency in their scoring! Like your team by the way! Not convinced Mahrez is good value but he can become Pogba in. Few weeks or Coutinho if he starts performing and you can raid your piggy bank!

        • Pancho says:

Thanks Rosco. I’ve gotten rid of Jesé on my WC this week. Mind you, if DDG wasn’t an absolute super hero with that save on him last weekend I’d be singing a different tune!
I feel I need to do either Mahrez -> DSilva or Morata -> Jesus.
          Thoughts?

        • Rosco77 says:

I like Jesus and Morata but Jesus is more exciting as are city, Im actually debating downgrading Lukaku to one of those in the next few weeks but can’t decide either!! I think Perhaps as a combo Jesus + Silva is marginally better than Morata and mahrez but thats just my opinion!

        • Pancho says:

Rosco, it’s a tough one! What about Morata and Silva? Gives coverage from both.

        • Rosco77 says:

          Yeah I like that mate!

Not for -4, we were awful at WHam and he still had a couple of decent efforts and hit the bar.

    Kunal says:

    On my WC
    Any suggestions?
I’m finding it tough replacing Pogba. Antonio looks like a good punt, has good fixtures to score.
Also Lukaku to go out for Kane.

    • 27.1
      Pancho says:

Kunal, I’m personally not a fan of the Lacaz inclusion. Especially when you could have Vardy and Firmino instead of him and Abraham, if my math is correct (which I’m not guaranteeing at all). What would it look like with the two of them in? Does that interest you?

  4. 28
    KP says:

    Need some suggestions.
Which one should I go for?

    1. Dummett to Wimmer
    2. Ince to GroB
    3. Any other transfer

    • 28.1
      Pancho says:

KP, do you have one or two FTs? Cash on hand?
If you have just one then I’d hold it. If you have 2 then I’d be lookin at Ince as you likely won’t play Wimmer over your other defenders anyway right?
Or do you have the funds to do Lukaku & Rodriguez -> Vardy & Firmino? Would be interesting moves at the moment.

      • KP says:

I’ve 0.4 in the bank and 1 free transfer. I won’t play wimmer but stephens’ gametime worries me. If he doesn’t start I’ll be left with 10 players.

        • Pancho says:

KP, Stephens -> Cedric would solve that with a playing defender. Look at Dummet -> Wimmer next week? I can see what you’re worried about though. Either one is good.

    • 28.2
      WagnerRevolution says:

Nice team, I would do Stephens to Maguire or J-Rod to Joselu. Both a threat with fantastic fixtures upcoming.

    Not Too Xabi says:

    Hi everyone,

Current draft for the active wildcard. Any tips? Currently switching between Aguero/Jesus leaving 1.9m ITB to potentially upgrade Salah to Hazard.

    Thoughts?

  6. 30
    Pancho says:

It feels to wildcard into a 442…
    Thoughts on this anyone?
