48 points in GW20 and six above the average. ‘Meh’ about covers it.

Our team did secure a green arrow in the overall rankings this week moving up to 1,141,741 from 1,201,188 – 59,447 places. Woo. Hoo.

We know, we know! “It’s a step in the right direction” / “It’s no red at least” / “The correct side of the average”. Etc. etc. But come on this is boring. We want big scores, flashy jumps. In essence, we want to be the hare not the tortoise!

Not looking at it forensically this week – but we had FOUR players with a solitary point in Alex McCarthy, Vlad Coufal, Paddy Bamford and Harry Kane so thank goodness for Gundogan, Antonio, Grealish, Chilwell and Dias for pulling their weight and doing the heavy lifting for the aforementioned rubber ducks.

If only we’d captained Gundogan but can’t honestly say it crossed anyone’s mind…..

Our GW21 Transfer(s)

Nobody in our number fancies Kane does a Lazarus and starts on Sunday and with not much value to be lost if we need to buy him back, we thought we would dip into the market for a new striker. This one was as quick a transfer decision as has been seen within FF247. Two minutes quick, in fact:

To confirm then we have SOLD HARRY KANE and BOUGHT DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN

Captain – ILKAY GUNDOGAN

With three quickfire votes for the German (and one member temporarily abstaining due to recent personal form), this one too was quickly done and dusted. We like City’s fixture, the midfielder is in scoring form and ‘could/should’ be on penalty-taking duty.

If Pep peps us, then BRUNO FERNANDES will step up as vice captain.

    Would you start Stones or Watkins?

    (Already have Cancelo in City’s defense)

        This is the starting line up (WC):

        Martinez,
        Cancelo, Robertson, Rudiger, Stones*
        Salah, Fernandes, Gundagon, Son, Barnes
        DCL

        Steer, Watkins, Antonio, Holding

    • Stones is more of a banker than Watkins. But as mentioned, why not start both? Maybe Soucek is playing havoc with your nerves.

      Just do what the hell you want to do. If you think Watkins will outscore Stones then go for it.

      Not ideal but you have a good captain this week and players who are at least playing. Kilman may benefit from Wolves returning to 3 in defence so he may get you by another week. Coufal is there if not.

      Therefore I would fix your strikers and try to save the WC.

      Vardy and Kane out for Watkins and DCL? Gives you some nice cash to aim for defensive upgrades next GW onwards.

    Just done Kane to DCL, would you do ESR to Son or Mane?

    Should I start Areola over Martinez?

    • Mitro,

      You would know better than us on the prospects of ESR but if you are OK with benching Bamford or Soucek, then ESR to either Son or Mane sounds very good.

    • I wouldn’t bother with a hit. Be patient. The side looks fine.

    • Definitively Areola to start for me. Gundogan captain is popular choice. I think a hit is worth it.

    • I d seriously consider starting arebola to attack the wba fixture, even no clean sheet, he grabs save points. sou is still decent in attack

    Would you do Soucek to Salah for a -4 this week? Else I’d be starting Saka and I don’t fancy him vs United.

    • or you could just play Soucek?

      • But it won’t be many times you would be able to afford Soucek or Saka to Salah so I get it.

        I’d probably keep Soucek though so Saka to Salah I prefer.

        • But Saka has a higher ceiling playing in a more attacking role for a team who are also kinda in form now. That’s my reasoning.

          Sakas underlying stats are also much better than Souceks

        • NO worries. Do Soucke to Salah then – that’s got to be a better move long term.

          But with all those underlying numbers in that attacking role, you still don’t fancy him against United?

        • If Saka and Soucek both played United this week i feel Saka would do better.
          When you add Salah into the mix I feel he’s better than the 2 options I currently have.

        • Also the niggling feeling that now that Salah has finally found the back of the net (even though it was disallowed) I’m sure hes due soon.
          But again I dunno if that’s just me :wacko:

    • I don’t think starting Saka is the worst option. He and Arsenal are in good form and United are not impregnable.

      • I think United will be a better defensive unit with Shaw and lindelof rather than the horrorshow that was Telles and Tuanzebe vs Sheffield.

        United have let in only 4 goals in their previous 6 prior to Sheffield United which included Villa, Liverpool, wolves and Leicester.

    • soucek is long term, look at next three fixture, i would keep,
      I d do saka change.

      • Why do you rate Soucek higher than Saka? Out of interest. I have an equal amount of love in my heart for both of them.

        • I like both honestly, not just soucek is fixture proof. saka is in good form which i think would end up eventually, that s why I think long term soucek is the choice.

        • Thanks. I’ve used both as handy enablers this season. It’s interesting at the moment with the likes of Kane, KdB, Vardy all gonners. We can pretty much build the team of our dreams as a consequence.

    • I’d keep Saka over Soucek for sure

  6. Hi Guys, I do hope you are all doing well during these difficult times.

    After a bit of advice

    My team is as follows:

    McCarthy, Martinez
    Targett, Lowton, Alioski, Justin, Bednarek
    Son, Fernadez, Salah, Gundongan, Soucek
    Kane, Antoinio, Bamford.

    Thinking to just bench Kane (to save me a benching headache if I xfer him to DCL) and getting a Man City defender.

    Option 1: Kane to DCL and Alioski (or another defender) to Cancelo/Dias/Stones (4 point hit)
    Option 2: Just Alioski (or another defender) to Cancelo/Dias/Stones (no hit and bench Kane).

    What do you guys think? Which defender to go and which to get in? Kane or no Kane? smile

    • Option 1 and Cancelo.

      The pain of Kane playing (if it happens) will be offset by your owning Son.

      Getting a Manchester City defender in is certainly no bad thing just now and waiting to hear news on Kane if you can, is probably not a bad idea.

      With Southampton missing most of their defence just now I would look at Bednarek to Cancelo I think.

      Hopefully we know more about Kane after this weekend. One thing to do is probably start him in case he does recover in time. He’ll either start, get the last half hour from the bench (if Spurs need him) or miss out entirely.

      He won’t get one minute at the end that’s for sure.

        • Even if he has a shocker there’s always next week. I’m looking at DCL into the future, not just this GW.

        • Which should always be the case for 99.9% of transfers Kralin.

          I’ve got DCL in for the long haul (that’s the plan anyway).

        • Yes, similarly. I was annoyed when he got injured the other week. It seemed to break some sort of essential flow in my team.

          Injuries seem to be piling up now as games relentlessly follow games.

          One week punts tend to come into play just before wildcarding.

          I think ‘what? you bought 15 dreadful players?’ More likely you have had a bad week.

          A WC should be for the mid-long term. But some people get into a terrible state about it.
