Welcome to FF247 FPL Team GW26
A Wildcard Waltz and a Bench Boost Beckoning
Anyway, part one of the plan worked! We wildcarded last week and scored 82 points – a very respectable 32 points above the weekly average and a climb to 616,720 overall.
The reason we wildcarded was so that we were in a position to absolutely hammer the upcoming DGW26 with as many players with two games as possible. We go with 14 of the 15 which we’re delighted with but more on that later.
The Premier League confirmed the DGW26 fixtures ONE MINUTE PAST THE GW25 deadline (yeah great, thanks etc / insert own expletive) – effectively meaning that you couldn’t technically guarantee a Wildcard/Bench Boost combo across these two weeks would work.
Yeah we took a bit of a risk but ‘fortune favours’ and all that!
The past week was a poor one from McCarthy in goal, and Ilkay Gundogan in midfield – only one of those was a real surprise, and you don’t need to be a mastermind to establish which. The wet blanket that is Tottenham Hotspur contrived again to fluff it at West Ham and the usually lethal duo of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son returned just four points between them, as yet more mis-stepping by Spurs has them tumbling towards the bottom half of the table.
On to the more positive and everyone else was awesome really. Double digits from Barnes, Bruno and the Leeds double of Bamphinha combined with a rock solid defence consisting of Digne, Dias and Cancelo meant we are extremely pleased with a rise of almost 110,000 places and a third consecutive green arrow. In fact that’s 9 green arrows in 10 now.
Easy this FPL lark.
Our GW25 Result…
Now, looking back at our wildcard selections, we view that with enough forward-planning, joined-up thinking and no particular animosity in selections (see; “boring”) we see what past ‘us’ has left for present ‘us’ to use, and now come to decide what future ‘us’ will have to say next week about what past ‘us’ was thinking.
In other, simpler terms, let’s go see what was decided.
Our GW26 Transfer(s)
In discussions about transfers it was noted that we only really had two Leeds players on single gameweeks and unanimously everyone agreed that Raphinha wouldn’t be sold and if we did, quite correctly, “we’d want him back soon enough”. Raphinha stays.
Bamford then was under the microscope. That sounds harsh but DGWs are DGWs and although we don’t hate the Leeds man; the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the impressive way Everton dealt with Liverpool, the Toffees matches in the double being against Southampton and West Brom and the fact we could do it for free meant that this was a big favourite for us. Dominic Calvert Lewin is in!
That left us with only McCarthy with a single gameweek and to be honest, he and Southampton haven’t been doing it lately (putting it mildly), so we thought about a DGW goalkeeper and all we could afford was either Sam Johnstone of West Brom or Alphonse Areola of Fulham.
We picked the Frenchman due to him having many more points so far, the fixtures in the DGW for both were a bit muchy muchy.
The -4 for this will hopefully cancel out if it is only two 2-pointers but we are optimistic. Afterwards he becomes a cheap option on our bench as we most likely revert back to Martinez with no harm done. Areola nips in for a -4.
To confirm then we have SOLD PATRICK BAMFORD AND ALEX McCARTHY and BOUGHT DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN AND ALPHONSE AREOLA
***BENCH BOOST IS ACTIVE***
Captain – HARRY KANE
This wasn’t straightforward at all. The first three votes were for Harry, Bruno and Lucas (Digne. Yep. Guess by who!).
The fourth and fifth votes went to Harry so that’s that decided. If things go wrong, new signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin carries the vice.

Does anyone know the highest GW score? I have a feeling this week will be right up there with some huge scores. Maybe a 200+
226 I believe, but I may be wrong.
I think there may have been a few hots involved. Depends if you take the score or the met score.
-20 on that. So yeah, net one I’m not sure. I’ve beaten that as a net myself (max’d @197) so I’d assume many also have too!
Cookie once got 227! 😉
This has got 228 written all over it
It’s got yet another left-back Captain blind spot and tears written all over it too :hippo:
…
Every village has one….
That’s one great looking team, Cookie! Capo is a bit extravagant but who knows nowadays…
Dan will be getting jealous!
It’s a great looking team that, 200 isn’t out of the realms of possibility, and I sincerely hope you get there.
Just not convinced on the Capo! :focus:
It would want to be a decent team given the points you’ve spent on it! :hippo:
Oh Lordy, what we looking at Kop?! -20?
I’ll let Cookie break that news as given the form he’s in I wouldn’t be surprised if he took another hit before the deadline. Do yourself a favour thought, keep a chair close to hand at all times!
I know you’re his FPL carer but at what point do we have to discuss putting him into an FPL care home?!
He’s a lost cause. There isn’t a care home out there that will take him after this. :jester:
Oh FFS! :fool:
…
Evening folks, what say about this team? 1ft 0.2itb
The plan was to BB, but Grealish’s injury has ruined it somewhat. TC an option, but wanted Kane for that:scratch_one-s_head:
The Wishlist of potential additions, oh the agony of choice
G – Ederson, Martinez, Schmeichel
D – Stones, Pereira, Castagne, Digne
M – Gündo, KdB, Barnes
F – Harry effin’ Kane
TAA to Stones, Grealish to Gundo, both set you up for GW27 as well. That would leave about 3.5 ITB, which is enough for Bamford to Vardy. -4 or -8 for Vardy. You could BB with Raphinha Dallas Targett and Johnstone or TC somebody.
If you really want Kane, I think this may work.
TAA/Grealish/Bamford to Thomas(Lei)/Gundo/Kane.
-8 though.
Cheers, appreciated Stone Frog
BB still seems well within a reasonable reach there, probably albeit sans Kane.
What does the team page look like with fixtures etc?
What are your initial thoughts / plans?
Cheers, team looks like this before changes. I’m thinking a hit of -4 or -8 to bb or maybe just plan for next dgw without using any chip.
I have the same bench and I am
BB-ing. Grealish to Gundo or Barnes and you are good to go! You can always ditch one of the Leeds boys and get yourself another DGW-er.
I am debating whether I should do 1) Dallas to Ricardo, 2) Raphinha to Barnes or
3) Bamford to Richarlison myself.
I’d just move Grealish to Gundogan – you’re sailing far too close to the wind with only one City player in there.
Just do that and assemble the best possible XI from there. You’ll be able to put something very decent from what you have. You’ve got pretty good coverage.
Let others in your ML maim their sides with hits – take advantage of that.
Yep. Too few citeh bois indeed. Would like three as they play four games in these two dgws. Cheers.
Also thought about this for a wc.
Nah. Doesn’t seem worth it.
Just get Gundogan in and have a few drinks. I’d advocate a policy of non-engagement this GW – just let it flow over you. I guarantee you’ll come out unscathed. You will come out reborn.
Evening all.
Battling a child that doesn’t want to go to bed here. He is winning
I’ve already used my ft.
I had originally planned to tc Kane and am still thinking that way. I can get in any or all of these ( all seems a bit mad). I’m languishing around 700k place so part of me is saying mad might be ok.
1) Digne for Bednarak. Means can bench Mee who I do not believe will score many points (4 point hit)
2) DCL for Watkins or Bamford.
3) Kane for Ings.
If I do 2 and 3, it means Raphina will be benched and that seems a bit wrong
What do you thing?
Maybe let the sprog decide.
Trying to explain fantasy football to an infant may help cure you of fantasy football.
Why not 4) – DCL for Ings?
Or just chill and let what will be be, man.
could do that Kralin – prob will do more
Dreamers, can you afford Digne, DCL & Kane?
Blimey, I thought that punishing act of severe self-flagellation the other night would have cured you of the evil of massive points’ hits.
Instead it seems to have driven you further into the arms of Mephistopheles.
To the contrary, Krallin, I enjoyed it so much I came back for more and raised the stakes higher.
Thrash me!!
Maybe some light bastinado, Cookie?
Kralin, why does it have to be light.
Let’s go hard core. Talking of which, where is AJW this evening?
Cookie – yes
Dreamers – I love Bednarek to Digne, Bamford to DCL and Ings to Kane….individually they all make sense.
hi Cookie – they do dont they.
Its just – its a -12…..
not sure
Dreamers, forget its a -12 and look at them individually as 3 x -4s.
Does Bednarek to Digne warrant -4?
Does Bamford to DCL warrant -4?
Does Ings to Kane warrant -4?
Getting someone in for Ings I think well warrants it for Kane.
Digne is really for Mee – as he will be benched. Can we trust Everton (DCL and Digne) is my question I guess
I did 2 and 3 and feel pretty good about it right now. Cue Bamford and Ings banging hattricks.
Update
Went for 1 and 3 – held on 2. Reason being DCL is just back from injury. Might still do it but will sleep on it. Happy to play Raphina or Bamford
Given Mourinho’s comments re Kane I’d be hesitant on captaining him.
Digne is the obvious, standout there. In my opinion. Or DCL.
Matt, this is for you. Not sure how I reply got above the first comment!!!!
I’m a genius :manic:
I edited the pic so maybe that moved the comment. The worn pic went up so I don’t have Digne. Jose’s comments are what’s making me not sure about the Kane TC which is what I was certain for ages.
Matt, I actually think Kane plays these two and possibly sits out Palace.
I agree Cookie I think he plays and it’s just mind games from Jose. Just feel TC on Kane is just asking for him to be benched and knowing my luck he will be.
Matt, I don’t think it’s mind games, I think Jose is serious.
Kane has been flogged these past few seasons as they haven’t had a 2nd striker. Now they have, sort of, and he’s scored goals in Europe.
Jose will undoubtedly be targeting winning the Europa and getting some silverware and CL footy and he’ll need Kane for that.
That is very true! Still not convinced by that Vinicus fella but I have only seen matches where he’s played poor teams so that could be why.
I agree that Kane has needed help for a long time though!
Lads this is me. Not sure who to captain though. I’m torn between Bruno, Kane and DCL. I was thinking a TC but not sure if my uncertainty means I shouldn’t play it.
I think Bruno is a very sound choice this GW. At the very least there will be penalty in there somewhere.
Cheers Kralin. I kind of feel that Bruno is a SGW player this week. He tends to disappear against big teams so I’m expecting a 0-0 draw for Chelsea. It’s the Palace game where I’d be capping him for.
Anyone else finding this GW quite daunting? So much opportunity but so much pressure to get it right with big points swings possible.
I’ve got 1FT and 0ITB. My transfer thoughts are:
Son and Ings to Barnes and Kane (-4)
or
Grealish, Ings and Coufal to Raphinha, Kane and 4.0 (-8)
Captain wise… I’m a United fan so passing up an opportunity to TC Bruno is tough. But if I get Kane…
Not really, though we’ve seen a couple of managers accelerate and drive straight over the edge over the past couple of days.
I’d really try to chill out, make your moves and park the team and go out and enjoy the weather this weekend (in a Covid-safe way, I hasten to add).
Ings to Vardy is another move you could consider.
Cheers dude
