Fantasy Football FF247 Team Gameweek 5

points-gameweek-4-fantasy-footballGW4 went pretty well for us as we scored 64pts, 12pts above the average. Bearing in mind we captained the benched Raheem Sterling, who’s 30min cameo produced just 2pts for us, we were relatively happy, if somewhat annoyed with Brendan Rodgers! Our main performers were Fabregas, Costa and Di Maria late on in the gameweek, while Aguero chipped in with a goal and Alderweireld grabbed us a clean sheet on his debut. Poor returns from Mannone, Moreno, Wilson, Siggy and Welbeck were disappointing, but everyone has players with low scoring weeks and are part and parcel of the game, so no need to panic on those ones and we look forward to GW5 with confidence and excitement.

Transfer for GW5
We have decided to hold our free transfer for this week as we feel there is nothing obviously wrong with our squad at the moment and none of them are injured so far as we know. We do feel that for GW5 we may lack some Spurs or Everton coverage, but we don’t feel the need to chop and change every week and it’s not like those team’s forthcoming fixtures are massively attractive anyway. We are also conscious that teams playing in Europe do tend to not always perform as well as expected after a midweek match and with both Everton and Spurs having played Europa Cup matches on Thursday, we’ll cross our fingers and hope for the best!!
After all, two transfers next week  may well come in handy!

Line-up for GW5
As you can see we are playing Krul at home to Hull, despite Newcastle’s miserable form. Hopefully, Pardew has energised them this week (we were hoping he would of been booted out by now and Mr Defence, Tony Pulis, been installed – sadly it hasn’t happened).
Selecting the defenders was very tricky, but in the end we went with the attack minded Moreno, Taylor at home and Wilson at QPR. Benching Alderweireld was tough as the Saints have been very good thus far, but someone had to warm the bench and we hope that Stoke can be as tight at QPR as they were at the Etihad.
The midfield and forwards pick themselves and need little explanation! Welbeck is the only one that is on our ‘monitor’ list out of the front seven to be honest so he better start pulling up some trees at Villa as we have a huge list of players waiting to take his place. Well we say huge. Ok, it consists of just Pelle right now!

Captain
We have chosen to give the armband to Costa. Pretty tough decision this week, with Siggy and Aguero also coming close. We felt that Costa is on fire and in this game form is key. We accept he is unlikely to score another hat-trick this week, but his record this season speaks for itself and he was given the luxury of a seat on the bench for most of Wednesday evening’s Champions League match. And anyone who suggests that Sunday will be a tight game, difficult for Chelsea…remember what happened at Goodison in GW3?! City don’t appear to be firing on all cylinders as of yet, which puts us off Aguero, while Siggy could easily do well at home to Southampton, but with the Saints showing some decent form so far, we have plumped with default Costa! Siggy is the vice captain this week.

This is my current team, I have 0.2 in the bank. Do I need to make any changes or am I good to go for this GW and save my free transfer? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Leaning towards Rooney myself. However, will FF247 have complete fail captaincy choice 2 weeks in a row? You dare risk it?

Seriously though, benching Welbeck? That’s kind of crazy.

      • igy4 says:

I’m going with Rooney simply because he has the easier fixture and is bound to start (famous last words). Why is benching Welbeck crazy though? Who would you swap him for?

        • Raziel says:

Welly hasn’t done anything yet but he is still a starter for Arsenal right? If I have him as a striker, I’d play him. In all honesty, why not play him? Still the choice is yours, the kid you might take out could score and assist and Welly could do nothing. Just speaking for myself. Why did you buy him if you weren’t gonna use him? Lol.

        • Raziel says:

Schneiderin is in form and so is Siggy so I hate to bet against them. Nope, I won’t say anything. You go with your gut and stick with it.

      • inittowinit says:

Yeah I’d agree with Raz on Welbeck, him in for Schneiderlin. The latter has 3 goals now which suggests form but the reality is that’s 1 more than last season in total. Probably just one of those things. Welbeck is as due as a an overdue player could ever be. If he doesn’t pop this week then he’s a goner for me.

      NIN says:

igy4 – I’m unsure about Welbeck but i think i’d play him ahead of Schneiderlin this week. The rest looks fine to me.

      • igy4 says:

It’s a hard one, you may ask why buy him if I don’t play him but isn’t that the point of having 15 players, so you can switch them around week after week? Schneiderlin is in good form at the moment, 4th overall in midfield points ahead of Sterling and ahead of Hazard so can hardly say he should be dropped. Thanks for the advice though, I may end up switching before the deadline if the fpl demons have their way!

        • NIN says:

igy4 – It wan’t me who made that statement 😉 If you feel benching him is the right move than by all means go ahead mate. Personally, i would play him smile

        • igy4 says:

Sorry NIN I know it wasn’t you, I just put it all in the one reply to save time! I’m not sure what to do yet, will sleep on it and hope I don’t sleep past the deadline! Haha, I’ve done that many of times! The general consensus seems to be Welbeck though!

        • NIN says:

It would seem so. As init said, if he blanks again then it’s bye bye to him. Good luck smile

        • igy4 says:

Cheers NIN, you too my friend!

Wellbeck for schneiderlin personally, Villas luck won’t last!

      • Raziel says:

Hmmm. Wasn’t luck, they managed to tighten up things in the back. They did very well and i thinjk they deserve credits for it. Just think what damage they can do with the return of Bentekers. 😉

    RedVT says:

Thanks for putting up the FF247 team, guys! Man, reading through it all has me re-thinking my captain choice (again!)

Does anyone have any strong opinions one way or the other on Rooney, Adebayor, or Costa for the armband??

    • 3.1
      Raziel says:

Going with Rooney myself. Even if he starts as a 10 I think after 60-70 minutes RvP and/or Falcao will be swapped and he’ll get the armband. On that note, Leicester have faced the hardest competition out there and I noticed they just conceded 5 freaking goals!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To put it in perspective, Everton already conceded 10 goals, Arsenal 6 and even Chelsea 6. >.<

      NIN says:

Hi Red. Nice strike force 😉 Costa is the default pick i think, and will be so for me after this game week. I’m opting for Adebayor this time round though. I fancy Spurs to hammer WBA, 3-0, 4-1, something like that.

      • Raziel says:

Not afraid Chelsea team will be park the bus?

      • RedVT says:

Hey NIN, thanks mate. I really like the Adebayor idea, just thinking about the whole Europa League hangover and all that. I know he didn’t even travel, but it seems like that tournament is bad news for league form more often than not.

I’m scared Costa is going to go nuts and I didn’t captain him AGAIN, but if City can do OK and he has an off day, it sure would help with the rankings to go with someone else…

Haha, it’s the same shit every week. Guess I’ve just gotta make a choice and roll the dice! laugh

    Hammer says:

Who would you guys captain from Costa, Aguero or Di Maria?

    • 4.1
      RedVT says:

Hey Hammer, it’s a tough call and it really comes down to personal opinion. I think after considering Leicester’s fairly decent defensive performance and the fact that they’re at home I’m going to stay away from Rooney and go with Adebayor.

From the 3 you just listed I think I like Costa the best due to his form, but any one of them could do well. Not much help in making a decision, I know! Good luck with whomever you go with. smile

    BennyB says:

Great suggestions as always, thank you! Still struggling between Costa and Di Maria for the armband tho???

Quick defensive question, I have Begovic/Shawcross & Krul/Collochini. Can’t see Newcastle keeping a clean sheet, but chose 1 from each team as cover (Shawcross as 1st sub to ensure I don’t get 2 Newcastle players on). What do you think?

    ANOTHER great article FF247 Team.
But oh the captain problem I was thinking of Di Maria now may be Costa – another stressful morning to decide. I too give Welbeck another GW or two, but that’s it.
