FPL launch 2016/17 – New Rules and Player Pricelist
Finally it is live! FPL is back, life as we know it will not be the same for the next 10 months! At first glance there seems little change to last season – budget and squad size is naturally the same and the four chips remain in place, including the two wildcards – one to be used in the first half of the season, the other to be used in the second half of the season. The first may not be carried over – so use it or lose it. The only change seems to be in the calculation of bonus points – a breakdown of which can be found under the Rules tab.
With less than a month to go before the start of the season, managers will be busily playing with different formations and strategies, so to help you on your way, let’s take a very brief look at some of the highlights of the price list for the players.
Players Price List – initial reaction
The most expensive player (as per usual!) is Sergio Aguero who again costs 13mln, while the success last season of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez sees their prices rocket to eliminate their bargain status! Nolito and Anthony Martial being listed as midfielders may attract decent support. Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes in at 11.5mln to make him the second most expensive player while Diego Costa costs just 9.5mln, making him cheaper than Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy. Daley Blind are Chris Brunt are now listed as defenders, while Eric Dier is now listed as a midfielder.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 11.5mln
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9.5mln

Eric Bailly 5.5mln
And some selected old favourites:
Sergio Aguero 13.0mln
Harry Kane 11.0mln
Daniel Sturridge 10.0mln
Jamie Vardy 10.0mln
Diego Costa 9.5mln
Olivier Giroud 9.0mln

Dimitri Payet 9.5mln
Riyad Mahrez 9.5mln
Anthony Martial 9.5mln
Mesut Ozil 9.5mln
Firmino 8.5mln
You will all have your own views and may spot the glaring bargain that I have missed. So please share your thoughts below on both the new changes to the game (the chips) and also your thoughts on the prices and maybe you’ve even begun to draft your initial squad.

Well had a little mess around with a team, and first impression is that its going to be very tricky. So many great midfielders with big price tags might be a good thing, atleast for differential between teams anyway. Really liking Jay Rodriguez for £6.5 and down as a midfielder.
That’s a really great shout for J.Rod but my only worry would be is will he play or better yet stay fit?
Hey Ant
I agree. Stick in your five best midfielders and try to craft the rest of your team. Tough nigh-on impossible!
I mentioned J-Rod on the other page. Strange one.
I can see him playing alot next season aswell. Any saints fans on here?.
Don’t think we have many mate.
Horse is Portsmouth and they’re the same thing :winktongue:
New manager makes it very difficult to judge. Keep an eye on pre-season line-ups for clues.
@TGP
Southampton are just a scouse feeder club.
I will ask the lads at work about JRod
I work ‘up the road’
Thought I’d get a little nibble there Horse.
Cheers mate.
Well that’s a relief! Nice one Cookster
Hey everyone! Nice to be back.
Really liking how mobile-friendly the new FPL site is.
Here’s a quick first attempt: lacks attacking Everton / Chelsea coverage, risky midfield, but a good 7 or 8 of these lot I’m fairly set on already… that’s been wrongly said before many times though I’m sure!
Nice to see some teams going up James see you have the big 2 don’t know a couple of these players , I like the front 3 cant get KDB in my team yet but going to be a big player this season , Sig & Albrighton good isn’t Feg a def mid player & I don’t know Ado.
I assume your hoping Stones gets his TF other 3 ok again don’t know much about Friend.
Lots of CS for UTD this season & good back up GK , although I might have choose CRY GK good start
Silvers, good to hear from you, nah Feghouli’s a winger by trade I think! Certainly attacking… I think 5.5m could be brilliant value.
I’m having KdB locked in for the time being. Are you going to splash out on Ibra initially?
Im good James & no I’m not taking Ibra like the look of Mkhit as my attacking Utd cover I will tey & find a way for KDB & yes your right att mid or winger 😉
James,
I wonder if this new signing van der Hoorn is signed for Fernandez’ competition. Williams and one other in the back four I think.
Nice to see Sigurdsson in there.
GP, thanks for that, need to have a good peruse of all the transfer activity when I get back to England…
Williams is usually worth that extra 0.5m for the bonuses anyway. Where would you scrape it from?
Assuming you plan on using DDG always (like I have in my first draft), then how about Boruc to Jakupovic (4.0)?
Sounds a plan for now GP! Though, the mental torture of tinkering has already begun, cus now I see Baines / Coleman worth the 0.5m over Stones…
@James, good to see you are set in fpl, now go fix your mls team!! :hippo:
WTF? This new site is fucking ugly!
Agreed, i don’t like it at all. Found numerous things i hate already. Oh well, they were bound to make a balls of it at some stage i suppose.
What’s up NiN me old pal?
Tell me what you don’t like and I’ll sort it.
Hey GP. Eh, it might be quicker to tell you what i do like!
I like that the game has launched. That’s it. Rest is pretty horrible really. Disappointed the rules haven’t changed too. Oh well.
NiN
I agree that a little jolt was needed and to see a different chip even would have been nice. Long-term I want a more fair and reflective bonus point system. If I could get that I wouldn’t complain about another thing.
Having worked my way through it (only on mobile so far) I am not hating it though.
Hi guys! Back. Would’ve loved to be a regular last season but exams got in the way. ::(: I’m back this season though and with no exams plan to be here all year round. Here goes…
Oops forgot to sub on some players. You get the idea.
Hazardo, afternoon, nice how you’ve fit Hazard in there!
If you’re gonna pay out for Sturridge (not sure I would initially) then, regardless of the fixtures, he’d have to keep Fletcher on the bench.
Are you that confident in Mahrez and Payet?
Yeah Sturridge will play, forgot to sub him on. I have faith in Mahrez and see Leicester getting european football again even after selling Kante. I don’t feel like I can doubt Payet after the euros although I may end up going Payet -> Miki until Payets tricky games are over and Mikis easy ones though I’m not sure about brand new signings.
Hi Hazardo,
Hope the exams went well mate and good to see you back. Any contribution you can make when you can is welcomed here.
Hernandez of Hull was in red hot form at the end of the season. That is interesting.
Look at their fixtures
Don’t be silly – I’m not looking at any fixtures yet!
Might as well log out so!
Funny that GP….. 😉
#throwingyouoffthescent
Exams went great Thanks GP. Thought the same about Hernandez. I don’t care about his fixtures, i think he’s just to cheap to pass up on (next vardy pls)
Hazardo GK rotate nicely 5 cheap Def all should rotate one way or other. Haz , Payet & Mahrez pick themselves , Dier & Flet don’t rotate would change one.
Kun is he a must could be , cheap 3rd str which leaves Sturr I wouldn’t start with him maybe Bats or Costa good start
O.k. So I’ve heard about Sturrige a couple of times. Any reason not to pick with Liv’s front 5? Honestly don’t know. Will change Flet although don’t plan on rotating Dier much and I think (defence wise) rotation is the only way to go this season.
Just had a quick look through over lunch and some initial thoughts……
ARSENAL – Santi Cazorla looks great value at 7.5mln. Bellerin is the top priced defender at 6.5mln, followed by Kos and Monreal at 6.0mln. Cech at 5.5mln looks the cheapest way in.
BOURNEMOUTH – Nathan Ake (4.5mln), on loan from Chelsea, could well play in midfield – keep an eye on pre-season. Callum Wilson is fit again and priced at 6.5mln.
CHELSEA – much will depend obviously on how Conte sets up – JT could be a cheap route into defence at 5.5mln, while Fabregas and William are both 7.5mln and could be great value if they can seal a starting place. Cuadrado is rumoured to be well-liked by Conte, but defo one to keep an eye on to see if he plays preseason – 7.0mln. Costa down to 9.5mln again means he is the enigma – if he fires, many will have him. Rumours he will leave seem to have been dispelled by Chelsea tweeting this morning that he is defo staying.
PALACE – all four keepers priced at 4.5mln! Again, one to watch preseason. New signing Andros Townsend is 6.5mln, while many will be waiting to see if Benteke (7.5mln) joins from Liverpool.
EVERTON – Coleman and Baines both start the season at 5.5mln and look good value if Koeman can sort the defensive side out. In midfield Mirallas is 6.5mln, Barkley 7.5mln, Deulofeu 6.5mln, Young Tom 5.5mln. Lukaku is 9mln if you dare.
HULL – at present Hull have just one fit keeper, Jakupovic, who is 4.0mln – it is likely they will buy at least one more keeper, but keep an eye if Jaku can secure the starting spot. Robert Snodgrass in midfield may attract interest at 5.5mln.
LEICESTER – Schmeichel and the defenders all come in at 5.0mln. Schlupp could well play further forward – if so he would be an OOP at 5.0mln. Mahrez rises to 9.5mln and Vardy to 10.0mln – new signing Musa comes in at 7.5mln.
LIVERPOOL – strangely in midfield, Mane (9.0mln) is more expensive than Firmino (8.5mln) and Coutinho (8.0mln). Once Sturridge (10.0mln) gets injured then it’s time for Origi (7.0mln) or Ings (6.0mln).
MAN CITY – Kun at 13.0mln grabs the headlines, while KdB is 10.5mln. Nolito is classed as a midfielder and is priced at 9.0mln as is Silva.
MAN UTD – Martial looks the standout as he is classed as a midfielder and costs 9.5mln. Mkhitaryan is also 9.5mln, while Mata is only 7.5mln and will attract interest if he moves. Zlatan is 11.5mln. Blind is classed as a defender this season and is 5.5mln as are Shaw and DDG. Fosu-Mensah looks like one to keep an eye on if he can convince Jose to start him – TFM is 4.5mln.
MIDDLESBROUGH – new signing de Roon is just 4.5mln. All the keepers and defenders come in at 4.5mln bar Ayala who is 5.0mln. A tight defence is expected and may be worth keeping an eye on, with Friend or Valdes looking like the most reliable of the cheapies to start.
SOUTHAMPTON – J-Rod is the standout….if he starts. Classed as a midfielder, if he can get a start alongside Long then 6.5mln for an OOP may prove a wise investment. Tadic is 7.5mln and new signing Redmond 6.0mln. Hojbjerg, who joined from Bayern is just 4.5mln and may prove popular as a cheap mid, bench fodder. Forster is 5mln and cheaper than Bertrand, van Dijk and Fonte.
SPURS – no obvious bargains this season! Kane is 11mln, Alli & Eriksen 8.5mln, Toby 6.5mln, Rose 6.0mln. Lamela at 7.0mln may be interesting if he can find consistency, while Dembele at 5.5mln could attract when he recovers from injury. Dier has lost his OOP status and is now classed as a 5.5mln midfielder.
STOKE – last season’s favourite keeper Jack Butland is 5.0mln. Arnie comes in at 7.5mln and Shaqiri at 6.5mln. Bojan is now classed as a midfielder and costs 6.0mln, while there is speculation that Stoke have bid for Berahino from West Brom, which may prove interesting.
SUNDERLAND – Any interest in the Sunderland defence may depend on whether Big Sam stays on. Mannone is 4.5mln as are the defenders. Kirchoff is now listed as a midfielder.
SWANSEA – Ayew and Siggy the highlights at 7.5mln. Williams the bps magnet comes in at 5.0mln and is the most expensive defender.
WATFORD – Ighalo starts at 7.5mln, Deeney at 7.0mln. Penalty save expert Gomes is 5.0mln and is the most expensive way into Watford at the back.
WEST BROM – Chris Brunt is now listed as a defender and like Dawson is 5.0mln. All the other defenders and Foster in goal cost 4.5mln. New signing Matty Philips comes in at 5.5mln, while youngster Leko who Pulis played at the end of the season comes in at 4.5mln.
WEST HAM – Payet’s price rises to 9.5mln, while new signings Feghouli and Tore both cost 5.5mln. Cresswell is quite rightly the most expensive defender at 5.5mln, while Antonio is annoyingly listed as a midfielder again, but is likely to be played at right back by Bilic.
WOW. Thank’s Cookie!
Thanks for your thoughts Cookie.
Can’t wait to hear in a greater depth once you study more closely over dinner this evening
HaHa
Top draw Cookie cheers mate 😉
Good stuff Cookie. I seriously doubt Costa will still be at Chelsea come kick off. In fact, i’d bet money that he wont be. Back to Atleti i’d say. Feghouli is amazingly priced
If Costa isn’t there, Hazard is a MUST imo
He pretty much was anyway, to me at least.
Yeah much of the same NIN (look at my name 😉 ) but he may very likely play striker if costa goes
That’s better than the article :hippo:
Cheers for this Cook great study mate!!
Thanks Cookie. I’ll read it in August 😉
Indeed. A quick look at player prices then auto-fill and log out and watch people cry over it for the next month
You are so full of crap. You won’t sleep tonight… :hippo: gawd I missed using that hippo.
Full of crap? Correct, I do need to do a dump. Screw fpl for now mate, we’ve got an mls title to hunt 😉 :hippo:
Left out Burnley! Gray at 6.5 looks a solid buy, Keane at 5.0 is a decent shout has a goal in him and Scott Arfield at 5.5 looks a solid filler. Also liking the look of Gradel and Stanislas at 5.5 respectively. Doubt we will ever find another Mahrez though at 5.5 again
Floki, great spot! They were actually left out on purpose as nothing special stood out initially, though no doubt we will spot bargains as we delve deeper and see a few preseason friendlies.
‘Left out on purpose’…. I’m fairly willing to bet the Sushi arrived at approx 2.25pm just after Bournemouth and just before Chelsea
Do I really look like someone who eats sushi?!
My bad. Caviar 😉
I assumed it was an Asian hooker.
:oogle:
NIN was closest – Chinese style stir fry.
Cookie that’s superb; an article in itself. Tip my hat to u sir
Great article Blue, are you going to go back and put in the pictures?
