Welcome to FPL Live Match Chat Gameweek 3

Another gameweek in the books and another on the cards. As Gameweek 3 starts we are sitting here dreaming of how we are going to fit a certain Portuguese superstar into our teams. Still, let us leave that struggle for another day and turn our attention to the task at hand, which is scoring well this week. The gameweek gets started with City laying waste to Arsenal in the early game. That is followed by five 3pm kick-offs. Villa take on Brentford, Brighton play host to Everton, Toon welcome in Southampton, Norwich battle it out with Leicester and hopefully The Hammers take apart Palace. The day is not done yet though, as the Premier League have left their best game for last when Liverpool play host to Chelsea as both teams will be looking to send an early message to one another.

Sunday brings us the remaining three fixtures. There are two games scheduled for a 2pm start. Burnley tangle with Leeds and Kane pretends he is happy to be at Spurs when they play Watford. The gameweek is brought to a close with Traore trying to finally put away a chance, this time against Manchester United and (the soon to be defunct) ‘Pen’andes.

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Gameweek 3 from all at FF247!

Greenwood, Jota and Torres all perform like premiums when they are on the field. My conundrum is how long will it last or will they be absolutely fine

Jota and Torres could be good long term picks, my worry with greenwood is how much game time he will get now Ronaldo is here

      Kralin says:

We had – or some had – this issue with Justin at Leicester last year.

Jota is probably the easiest to answer as Firmino may (or may not) be out for a bit.

The other two I may hesitate more and then grind my teeth in frustration as managers in my ML reap the rewards of owning them.

None are obvious captain choices (though who thought Antonio would be so popular a pick?) – so not owning them isn’t perhaps the biggest of issues.

Greenwood for me is the one who got away but so it goes.

      • Wafflez says:

Torres is tempting a city mid playing as a forward.
Just the Pep roulette that’s annoying.
Still might be worth it considering his price

        • Kralin says:

Given that nailedness is pretty much a sine qua non of the game then picking any City attacking player seems almost anti-fantasy, despite the many temptations. Their players really are sirens. I just can’t stand the not-knowingness (in the sense of will they start) of City players.

Maybe by the time of the next IB we’ll have more secure idea but of course the CL games will have started by then, etc.

        • Wafflez says:

True, Torres did have a hattrick last season and still was benched alot

        • Smash says:

Yeah they don’t seem to have many players that will play down the middle. Torres and KDB. Jesus now playing right. They don’t have that many options up top

Out of the three, i’m only really tempted by Jota. I cant deal with the stress of any city mids

Poor week, especially from the high of game week 1. My captains picks have been poor – there quite important aren’t they? Decided to stop worrying about them this year and stick to Salah/Fernandes but might need to start worrying again. Anyone know when they will add new transfers to the picks, like a lot of people wondering if they’ll chuck Ronaldo in as a 5.5m midfielder? No? Defender for 4.5? Must have been a dream.

      Kralin says:

The captain choice is arguably one of the most annoying elements of the game. Get it right and the gamesweek usually goes ok but be slightly off and one’s total can dip below the average. I wouldn’t be that bothered if the captain element was removed from the game, frankly, as being without it would reward long-term planning and careful squad management. But it not being there would probably reduce the game’s popularity.

I hope in a way Ronaldo is priced really high, like 12.5 – 13.5. That could engender a lot of side dismantling and iffy transfers in order to shoehorn him in. Given that Salah is currently ticking along fine one’d assume Bruno is the most likely to make way to enable him into people’s squads. Had Bruno scored yesterday this would be less likely of course. Personally I’m happy to have Bruno in for GW4 and longer term I’m targeting Lukaku GWs 7-12ish.

Obviously if Ronaldo does as Ronaldo once did then it gets torn up.

      • Pippin says:

+1. It will be agonising if he comes in at 13m but the times when this game disintegrates away from template into everyone for themselves is when it gets most entertaining. Blundering around, desperately trying to fit 5 premiums in with a dreg bench of players nowhere near their teams.

All part of the fun, no?!

        • Kralin says:

Oh definitely. And of course Ronaldo will probably score two on debut-two and Bruno will be sent off…

Remains to be seen how much Bruno is – or isn’t – gelded as a fantasy asset as a consequence of the return of Ronaldo.

        • Smash says:

Just waiting for his price but at worst I think 12.5

      Reg83 says:

Yes. I got my first 2 c picks wrong. Got 3rd one correct. Think u have to play fixtures and form. And of course luck is required.
Think ronaldo not yet officially signed by manu. Hence the delay.
He should come as a forward between 12 and 13 i would think. Hopefully not more than 12.5

Afternoon all, just checked out the Doubles league standings and h2h.

Is there any vetting for the doubles as we suddenly seem to have 50+ teams in the league?

    Gear says:

Okay, as there isn’t much else to do, here is my WC. Probably going to need to find another 0.1 for Ron. If he comes in at 13m, Raph will need to become Harrison.

Just can’t see a way of getting Trent in there…

    Thoughts?

      Gear says:

Or DCL and TAA > Matip and Luka?

    • 84.2
      Smash says:

I can’t see Alonso keeping Chilwell out long term so I’d ditch him. Chilly has two weeks to get up to speed and will likely come in. I quite like the structure for a three premium draft. I’m undecided if it’s wise or not.

    • 84.3
      Stone Frog says:

TAA is doable if you go for a collection of 4.5def as well. Something like TAA, Dier, Coady. May need to shave 0.5 off midfield as well Raphina to Harrison or Sarr to Gray and it could work. Just depends if the downgrades are worth it.

    • 84.4
      Stone Frog says:

The other option is to TAA and Son instead of Salah and Matip.

    • 84.5
      Kralin says:

Gray of Everton or Smith Rowe at the Arsenal may help keep TAA.

I think if I was wildcarding now I’d go for Ronaldo, who has an almost perfect fixture to return to. However you will have a pretty continuous captaincy headache between him, Lukaku and Salah. Personally I’d leave Lukaku until GW7 and choose DCL – if fit – instead. If unfit you could think of Jiminez or Bamford maybe.

    • 84.6
      OddDane says:

If I was WC’ing I might consider a front of Bamford/Antonio, Jimenez and DCL/Antonio for the fixtures, then shift a premium mid to one of Lukaku or CR7 in gw7/8. Unpopular approach I’m sure though smile

      • Kralin says:

I think that’s a sound front three. Problem is Ronaldo. In the past not owning him was at best a cry for help, at worst an act of self-harm.

Whether or not he will slot straight back in as if he never left remains to be seen. I’m trying to avoid the nagging questions about Bruno now drifting around. Will he be gelded and become a shadow of what he was? Or will Ronaldo’s return spur him to even greater heights? Will he be on free kicks now, penalties? Will he still be worth 12m, or will he drift into fantasy football irrelevance, a mere footnote?

      • Gear says:

I think the best front line is Antonio, Ron and DLC with a view to bringing Luka in for GW7
