Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!

Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!

Fantasy football tipsTo help you decide or just confuse you a bit more, we have asked 3 of our writers to pass judgment on what players you would do well to pick up and what players are better left out of the fray. We hope this is a simple straightforward formula that can assist you in your decision making as we ride out this International Break. We avoided including players like Siggy, Sterling, Ramsey or Costa as there is really no point. There seems to be overwhelming consensus on these cats.
Grab – You need this player on your squad. On the Def/Keeper categories if they select Grab, they will give us a name or two from said team. For example…

Grab-De Gea
Avoid – It’s a trap don’t get suckered in.
Bore off – If you have him play him, if you don’t have him don’t bother getting him. Really not worth the extra effort.

Rate my team, I need changes, they’ve been misfiring :
    De get/krul
    Lovren / jagielka / ferdinand / bruce(hull) / duff (Burnley)
Hazard, silva, Ramsey, ward prowse, bentaleb.
    Costa, Rooney, naismith.
    2.5 in the bank.
    Thanks a lot.

    The Mighty Whites says:

    Begovic – Krul

    Moreno – Jones – Clyne – Taylor – Wisdom

    Ramsey – Fabregas – Sterling – Sigurdsson – Clyne

    Falcao – Costa – Welbeck

The 5th midfielder is King not Clyne!

      NIN says:

TMW – Nice double Southampton coverage… Calvin will be proud of you 😉 laugh Team looks sweet, mate. Bit brave going with a United defender now, although, Rojo and Blind should shore us up a bit.

      • The Mighty Whites says:

NIN – Who’d you go for instead? Thoughts on Falcao?

        • NIN says:

TMW – Janmaat is an option. He’s been quite impressive so far, is fairly cheap and the Toon have some good fixtures. As for Falcao, i don’t think he’s a bad pick just now but i’ll need to see how he gets on in a weak, out of form team before splashing 11m on him.

        • The Mighty Whites says:

NIN – you not think the fixtures are too good to leave out for Jones? Should I keep Falcao or raise funds for Di Maria / Aguero?

        • NIN says:

TMW – I’m about to head out for the day so just a quick reply. I’d rather wait and see how United look defensively, what with the new arrivals etc. I cant comfortably say that dropping Falcao is correct, because he’s such a good player. I’m going to see what happens vs QPR and if it looks like he’s in the first 11 from the off, and looking good, then i’ll be buying him straight away. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see him tear it up from the off though.

Right, i gotta go now. Chat to you all later. Happy tinkering.

That sounds good tactics to me, well I hope so because I am also following it !

Short term balo, long term probably falcao; first see how many minutes he plays…

Does anyone, anywhere on here think Mata is worth holding onto? I understand there’s doubts about his role, but if I get rid of him for his fixture at home to QPR and he starts, I’ll kick myself.

By the way, I love the article. May I suggest an MLS version? “Grabavoy, Bore Off”.

      NIN says:

Morning Bryan. I would sell Mata, if you don’t have any other more pressing issues that is. At least we know the likes of Sterling/Stevie G etc will be first 11.

      • Evening NIN! I’m just worried that everyone is jumping on the media perception that he’ll be the fall guy. We all remember the recent Costa debacle, and would rather hear LvG’s thoughts directly, than base my transfer on pundits’ lineup predictions. However, you’re right, I’m toying with bringing Sterling in, and he has a great fixture anyway. Was just hoping to use my FT to ship out Riviere for Welbeck. I guess that could wait.

Anyways, congrats on your recent MLS performances, they’ve not gone unnoticed by me. Nothing short of amazing! Keep it up mate!

        • NIN says:

Yeah, the presser next week should reveal more about the situation. Personally, i think he, along with van Persie, are the most likely to suffer a loss of minutes (not that van Persie gets many these days anyway!).

Cheers mate. Things have been going my way recently, to say the least.

      B-Bash says:

Morning Bryan. I agree with Nin and would sell, unless there is something that really does need attention. It would appear he will be the one to lose out with the new signings.
Anyway, you kept Costa last gw so you’d only have a taster of our pain last Saturday if he did play, score 2 goals…..and you’d sold him! smile

      • Exactly B-Bash! I wonder whether keeping Mata would be another ‘differential’, in terms of doing something in spite of public opinion. As you say, keeping Costa really worked out for me. Though… maybe I shouldn’t test my luck a second time, eh? haha

        • B-Bash says:

Its one of those risky ones isnt it? Personally though, looking at the form that Sterling is in, Liverpool’s fixtures, and compare that to the form United have shown so far, and now its all wait and see what LVG will do with Mata, its more of a risk not to buy Sterling.

        • Yeah. I guess when it comes down to it, there isn’t much difference between a starting Mata vs QPR and a starting Sterling vs Villa (though many may disagree with that!). However, because Sterling’s almost certain to start it’s less risky to get him. I’m gonna wait til the pressers and probably do that transfers unless LvG says Juan’s the man for him. Tricky, it’s like stick or twist.

    my team so far is
    forster
    taylor pieters lovren
    ramsey fabregas sigurdsson sterling
    aguero diego costa pelle

    gilks wasliewski boyd
I’m liking my midfield just not convinced on any others. What do you guys think got 1m in the bank and used wildcard

    • 17.1

You’re on your WC now? If so, and it was my team, I’d change my keeper combo to Krul/Elliot (though that’s strategy’s an acquired taste) and swap Pelle for Welbeck. Heck that would even give you more dosh to improve your defence/bench.

      • dlynton says:

does courtois for forster, wasliewski for clyne and pelle for naismith any better giving me 4 decent defenders 4 midfields and 3 strikers. was thinking welbeck but cant scored and playing city, villa, spurs, chelsea aren’t easy fixtures to score.

        • B-Bash says:

Sorry, Dlynton, I took your wildcard had gone and you 1ft

        • I wouldn’t bring in an expensive keeper. They’re a graveyard for bonus points, and there’s better value in investing in defenders who can at least contribute offensively.

Naismith is a fashionable choice, but he he wouldn’t even be in my top 10 choices if I were fielding a front 3.

I would be looking to sort out Wassy first. Use the 1m to get a playing defender who you can rotate based on fixture. Colocinni, VanAanholt, Chester?
You are missing a defender as well smile

    Raziel says:

Hmmm, figured DDG, ROoney, Mata, Albrighton, Terry and co would’ve dropped by now already. Glad I kept my FT.

I think this international break has shown that, with the new price algorithms, a WC isn’t the money making tool it was last year.

      • inittowinit says:

Hi Bry, this is odd but I now read all your comments in a broad Yorkshire accent!

        • What’s tha on abaat? Does tha know nowt? 😉

If you think my accent is broad, I’d love you to meet a few of my mates from Bradford. You’d need an interpreter! It’s quite funny to see you say that, cos I actually think my accent’s comparatively noninflected compared to my White Rose comrades.

      • Raziel says:

I knew it wouldn’t be the same money making tool. I figure I would lose a lot of teamvalue during the break, I will still lose some but not as much as I first figured. So that’s cool. I’ve had a decent first 3 weeks would be crazy if my SV would below 100 pounds. It’s at 100.2m now but will drop once Rooney,Mata,Albrighton,Terry,DDG go down. Sighs. Much harder to earn back that money and be on break even.

        • Rooney and Mata still haven’t gone down in the past week so I’m not worried about losing too much value. Maybe they’ll both go down 0.1 in the coming week, but I can handle that. Naismith’s the only player to have risen 0.2 so far. Glad that I’ve chosen this year not to care about squad value!

        • Raziel says:

Being conservative is the way to go. 😉

          My team by the way:
          DDG – Gilks
          Pieters – Chambers – Terry – Hutton – Dummet
          Fabregas – Ramsey – Mata – Siggy – Albrighton
          Pelle – Costa – Rooney

The obvious move is taking out Mata and I was going to do that because of decreasing value and the impossibility to get certain players if they did drop too much. However that changed, wonder if I should doing something about my defense first. It’s a waiting game. 😉

        • Raziel says:

Mata > Sterling is the main move. Still is. But that defense… >.<

DUMMET WAS A REALLY BAD PUNT!
