Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!
To help you decide or just confuse you a bit more, we have asked 3 of our writers to pass judgment on what players you would do well to pick up and what players are better left out of the fray. We hope this is a simple straight forward formula that can assist you in your decision making as we ride out this International Break. I avoided including players like Siggy, Di Maria or Costa as there is really no point. There seems to be overwhelming consensus on these cats.
Grab – You need this player on your squad. On the Def/Keeper categories if they select Grab, they will give us a name or two from said team. Eg. Grab De-Gea
Avoid – It’s a trap don’t get suckered in.
Bore off – If you have him play him, if you don’t have him don’t bother getting him. Really not worth the extra effort.
Then again they may just go off piste and ramble regardless!

Morning all
Well that’s screwed me over- Sahko was 60-70& to rise on all 4 sites last night & still went up!
Guess my 8pt hit plan for Baines has now gone out of the window & i’ll just have to stick with Ulloa to Welbeck for free.
Oh for a world without broken price prediction algorithms!
Unlucky Hammers. Was FF Fix one of the four that you refer to? I checked last night for Welbeck and saw Sakho was high up on it but didn’t notice if he was at 100 or not.
And I’m 100% with you on hating the uncertainty of it all. How others can like it is beyond me! Especially if it’s not just a case of annoyingly losing out on 0.1 but actually not being able to make the transfers you wanted as in your case. But at the same time we’ve all been burned a few times by it now so we can’t be surprised at it any more; if you can’t afford any more price rises then you have to bite the bullet and make those transfers ASAP as there is just no telling with this crazy system! I have a vision of a guy sat in an office at FPL towers just flipping a coin each night for each player as to whether he rises or not..
LOL . I have that vision too & yes FF Fix was one of them. They actually had one of my other players as a definite faller but no one else had him anywhere close to it (he didnt drop) so rumours that they were the most accurate are way off.
The others i checked were FPL Statistics, Total FPL & FISO.
Could be a blessing in disguise though as I will save myself 8 pts & hopefully Danny boy will do the business
Moral of the story : rely on them at your peril
Morning hammers, I checked FFFix just after 11 last night and Sakho was at just over 98%
You stay up later than me!
Hi Kop
Thank you for sharing about the FFFix site.
I had a good look at it last night and wrote down the players with predicted rises/falls
Last night players predicted to go up were
Sakyo
Players who actually did go up last night were
(block letters for correct predictions)
SAKYO
Last night players predicted to go down were
HBA
Traore
Albrighton
Reid (Bur)
Ki
Chambers (WHU)
Ince Evans
Potts
Larsson
Stephens
Szczesney
Campbell
Sidwell
Players who actually did go down last night were
(block letters for correct predictions)
TRAORE
KI
INCE
Dier
Noble
Olsson
Faurlin
So FFFix nailed the risers last night and and predicted 3/8 of the fallers.
Moral: FFix are more accurate than FISO or Total FPL. but still need some tweaking on the fallers.
I will check again tonight.
Hope this helps
Horse
Nice one Horse. What did you make of the site?
We’ll hopefully have an article written by the lads at FFFix detailing their site later in the week.
I like it Kop especially the transfers section with the map of the main transfers.
It is fun.
I like the idea of getting them to manage your team for you for the whole season.
I might do better than I currently am
I actually like the site Kop, however i think the squad optimisation is a bit dubious.
Me & 2 friends tried it out last week & despite as all having fairly different teams (apart from the midfield) it suggested to all of us that our best transfer would be to bring in Fonte which was a strange one.
Seems like they have got the prices rises cracked then ( i just need to stay up later) hopefully they will sort the fallers out soon
I think they’re still doing a lot of testing so they’ve probably got a few things to iron out.
I agree with Hammers on the squad optimisation.
I tried the wildcard option and my team was heavily waited towards defence with Costa, Ulloa and Vardy up top.
Do you guys think Pelle/ Welbeck are a must?
Morning Mighty,
I don’t think they are a must, but having one certainly strengthens one’s squad as a whole – I maintain that in my opinion, the only must is Costa.
I currently have Ulloa and 2 FT.
What you reckon Cookie/
Lloris – Heaton
Moreno – Pieters – Clyne – Taylor – Moore
Di Maria – Fabregas – Sterling – Sigurdsson – Jones
Costa – Aguero – Ulloa
Mighty,
I sold Moreno, Sterling and Ulloa on Monday for Baines, Downing and Welbeck. 4pt hit. So that tells you what I am thinking. It really depends where you want your squad to go from here (up obviously!), I mean in terms of shape, balance etc.
Certainly I would get rid of Ulloa.
Why did you get rid of Sterling? How would you get Welbeck in, in my team?
I got rid of Sterling because I wanted Baines and Welbeck. To do that, one of the mids had to go and he was, in my opinion, the most disposable, if that’s a term.
How do you get Welbeck?
Plan a) is what I have done
Plan b) if you sold Ulloa how much cash have you in the bank?
If I sold Ulloa for Welbeck I’d have -1.5 in the bank.
OK, Mighty – well one transfer isn’t going to do it then. How about a cheaper striker…Sakho, Berahino, Naismith?
Or selling someone to raise some money?
I have 2FTs.
yeah I know Mighty – but what do you want to do? Who is on your wish list?
welbeck
OK – we’re getting somewhere. So the aim is turn transfer Ulloa to Welbeck.
Why don’t you just copy what I did and sell Moreno and Sterling?
If you can turn Ulloa into Welbeck can you then try turning water into wine?!
Cookie – no Pool cover? Tsk tsk!
Can’t have everything Ruben. obviously I would rather Sterling than Downing, but then I consider Baines and Welbeck more important than Sterling right now.
caveat – before everyone jumps down my throat in GW8, I am NOT saying Sterling will not score, assist or do well!
I don’t think it’s that big a risk to be without Pool cover.
Could do Cookie – it’s just I’m not convinced on selling Sterling. I could do Moreno to Dummett but is he a starter?
Cookie – yeah that’s true. In your case though I’d get rid of Fabregas instead of Sterling as you already have Costa. But what do I know.
Dummett? Newcastle’s defence is even worse than Liverpool’s and that’s an achievement!
Dummett is injured at the moment Mighty – I don’t think its hugely serious, but Heideira is waiting in the wings so I wouldn’t consider him a nailed on starter. Would mean you could keep your midfield intact though mate.
Guess you think it’s a bad idea Kop 😉 How would you go about getting Welbeck, Kop?
Ruben, you know a lot mate. Don’t talk yourself down. However I disagree on Sterling/Fab. I predict you can count on one hand the number of times Chelsea let you down this season, therefore coverage is vital with Fab at the heart of it.
Liverpool are traditional for letting you down, especially when you least expect them to. With the “burden” of CL (including 2 games vs Real Madrid), a team in transition (Brenda’s words, not mine), failure to replace their world class player, confidence nowhere near where it was last season, a less influential Gerrard, an injury plagued striker in Sturridge, Brenda constantly saying Sterling will get the odd rest……I agree with Kop in that no Liverpool cover right now doesn’t seem to be a huge issue.
Now – if Sturridge comes back firing and stays fit….if they gain confidence from the games vs Real Madrid, if they get the pace back into their game….then I will look back at them.
Mighty – I’d be somewhat in agreement with Cookie. I’d probably downgrade either Cesc or Sterling and get Welbeck. If there’s any money left over I’d look to improve upon Moreno. Azpi is you can afford him.
Cookie – What about Chadli?
Cookie – You really do make good points. I guess it could all come down to individual performances, where Fabregas, despite his more defensive approach on the pitch lately, has the upper hand because of Chelsea’s domination in matches. Yes, Liverpool has lost their pacey and counterattacking play which is so sad, but I can see how a lot of it was lost with the injury of Sturridge. So I’m very hopeful of its return.
Could do a -4 point hit and do Chadli, Cahill & Welbeck for Sterling, Moreno & Ulloa?
Mighty, Chadli is a good option, I have him
Ruben – you’re 100% right, they need Sturridge badly. My problem with Sturridge, and I have always thought this (Kop will tell you, I’ve bored him enough with it), is he is injury prone.
Now Rodgers is not stupid and will have worked this out and will know that as much as he would love to play Sturridge in every game (Prem & CL), that may not be possible if this injury persists….
…however, for Liverpool, Kop is a better informant than me, just bear in mind he is probably more negative on them than I am!!
Decent option there Mighty – maybe look at Azpi, save the 0.4mln to deal with Pieters or one of your other cheaper options?
Realistic Cookie, I’m realistic!
What do you think of my thoughts on Liverpool Kop?
Right? Wrong? Just biased?!
Cookie – That’s true. I’m just gonna hope he stays fit for a while this time, haha.
What you reckon guys? Make the transfers now or wait until after the int. break?
Mighty, if money allows you to wait, then wait.
+1 definitely wait if money isn’t a problem
Cookie, I wouldn’t disagree with any of it.
I hardly think there is ever a must in FF; maybe two or three a year. People have been going on about must-haves since GW1, where it was Siggy, then he goes and blanks for two or three and suddenly he’s droppable apparently. Same has been said about Fab, ADM, Baines etc. Surely the definition of a must-have is someone you MUST HAVE otherwise you will significantly suffer without them. Neither of those players are in that category yet, but they both offer incredible value for the return you are likely to get from them. I’ll be having the pair of them.
agreed – not having costa is the only thing that would have meant you losing ground on your opponents. there’s a lot to choose from this year elsewhere. The general aim still remains the same – try and have 7 big-hitters in your side at all times. 2 strikers, 4 mid, 1 def. or another combo but always try for at least 2 big strikers. if you manage your TV well there is a chance for 8 big-hitters but take a look at everyone’s teams around you – you will see 7 more often than not. I am eyeing up this as my 7, with chadli and welbeck in there too as an arguable 8th:
baines – ivan
di maria, fabregas, Sigurdsson
costa, falcao
Right, plane time. You all have a pleasant day now.
safe journey mate
Will my team suffer without Aguero?.
Ant,
not necessarily, but it may suffer with Ulloa!
I would downgrade Chadli and upgrade Ulloa. Having 6.3 sitting on the bench isn’t really necessary. I wouldn’t say you’re going to struggle without Aguero, but Welbeck would be a way better option than Ulloa.
Morning guys, great article and an enjoyable read!
i like the 3 words section and can’t argue with most points
Cheers for the article Mito and well done gents! Making me want to use my wildcard now
