Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2017-18
The International break gives us all the first opportunity to sit back and assess how we have fared so far. For some it’s a time of quiet reflection, for others it’s time for a Wildcard! Either way it’s a nervous time for fantasy managers as they wait and see if their stars return in one piece from their journeys far and wide. This particular break also sees the transfer window close so much can change, players will be added, some will be waved goodbye. We’ve decided to take a bit of a break ourselves for a few days but before we do we have asked a few of our regular writers to reflect on their own seasons so far, their fantasy plans and also their take on the season in general. Between them Cookie, Mito and Kop have had a good degree of success in fantasy games in the past. Now ok, that may be in Fantasy Cycling, Fantasy MLS and Fantasy NFL but it all still counts yeah? Yeah? No?! Well ok, Mito and Cookie have anyway. Kop just seems to enjoy playing these days. But as long as he’s happy, we’re happy, and all that… Joking aside, these lot follow football day in, day out and you’d be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable or dedicated trio. So, let’s go see how their Fantasy PL seasons are going…

***New Article – Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!***
You won’t get many articles in this break as we are literllly taking one but here’s one none the less!
Asked some of the lads some pertinent questions on their seasons so far and their take in general. For the record I don’t think we got a single answer pertaining to the actual premise of the original point of the article!
Don’t blame me for that, you 3 took this article and sent it off the rails long ago.
To be fair that first one must have been crap with one word answers only 😉
Great article.
My only real issue is Gross in my midfield. I have 0.5mil in bank so can get a midfielder for 6.0mil.
Is Gross any good, stuck him in team without doing much research on him, is Mooy enough better to make a transfer? Already made trade this week to get Salah.
Team below
Hey Bundeena,
To be honest I haven’t seen GroB do anything this season – which is not the biggest surprise given Brighton haven’t scored a goal yet! I think you have two options here – sell him and get Brady of Burnley (home to Palace next) or bench the GroB and play Tom Carroll home to Newcastle. Either could work – but at that price there really isn’t much obvious that will enhance your FPL experience!
Thanks Cookie.
What do you think about Willian. If I found another 1.0mil, either Bertrand or DeGea to a 4.5mil defender/keeper?
Bundeena,
I’m not sold on Willian – the only attacking Chelsea boys I’d be keen on right now are Morata and Hazard when he’s back and if he looks good, happy and productive.
I wouldn’t sell DDG right now, if at all.
By all means go for Willian if you want, can’t be worse than GroB – my gut is if you’re spending 7mln on a Chelsea bloke, you should get Alonso.
So the Ox rejects a move to Chelsea.
Gibbs moves to West Brom.
Alexis asks for ’24 hours leave’ from Chile training for ‘personal issues’….
…just another day in the life of Arsenal.
Meanwhile, has anyone seen any private jets arrive at Liverpool today?
You get the impression that Wenger and Arsenal as a club don’t have a clue what to do. Wenger comes out and says that any deal for Lemar wouldn’t happen, 24hrs later Liverpool make a bid and apparently a 3rd bid has yet to be rejected by Monaco. I’m not sure if Liverpool will end up signing him but at least it appears as though they’re trying to do something.
Now I realise that Arsenal could be doing a lot behind the scenes but I doubt it.
Regarding Alexis they have to sell him. He didn’t look interested on Sunday and will move for nothing net summer. Some will argue that with it being a WC seaon that he’ll need to perform but assuming Chile qualify he’ll be going to Russia no matter how poorly he plays. The biggest problem for Arsenal is that it looks as though they’ll have to sell to City.
Arsenal are in disarray. It’s actually a little bit sad to see. Wenger’s reign will now be tainted by the last few season’s of failure, discontent and chaos.
The only way I can see they can reduce the loss of Alexis is to buy Mahrez, though why anyone would want to join Arsenal right now I don’t know.
And what the hell is the Mustafi situation all about?
I assume Alexis has agreed stuff with City as no-one else seems to be linked with him, which is strange. I guess everyone knows the deal is done, at least between City and the player.
Last season it was sad but Wenger could easily have called it a day at the end of last season and no one would have questioned him. He chose to stay on so I have no sympathy for him a t this stage. In saying that he doesn’t deserve all the abuse he’s going to get off so called Arsenal supporters this season.
I have to assume that he felt he could turn things around over the summer but nothing has changed. If anything things have gotten worse. Liverpool played well on Sunday but Arsenal rarely threatened us and put us under any pressure. A team of 10 year olds could put our defence under pressure!
I know Alexis has already played for Barca and it didn’t necessarily work out but I think he’d fit in very well there. He obviously upset Messi while he was there.
You’re right re Wenger but I still find it sad, seeing what he is going through knowing it’s all going to end up messy with him being booted or him resigning when he could have just walked in the summer, as you say. His love for the game and the club is keeping him there and they are hard attributes not to respect or admire.
That team selection at the weekend was bizarre to say the least – I think the guy is having some sort of breakdown.
Long live Wenger!!
Liverpool and Arsenal are apparently in talks for the Ox.
Ah the Ox, Coutinho’s replacement.
That would appear to be the case as I can’t see Liverpool signing the Ox and Lemar.
What has the OX done in the past, I think he hardly scored a goal with the gunners. Wing Back is his best place at best based upon his career. A replacement for Courtinho, never they are in a totally different class. at present. Liverpool should get Lemar otherwise hold off. But hey, its not my cash.
Apparently they can’t get Lemar to Liverpool as VVD is hogging the private jet. Honest. There are pictures.
Barca are supposedly in for Lemar now.
Can’t believe he’ll choose Barca over Liverpool.
Nor can I!
They unearthed comments with Coutinho saying that his dream would to be on Real Madrid. I know he was young, but Barca fans really despise Madrid and hopefully this turns them against him.
Would be very amusing if they miss out on that 150mln!!
I be laughing with you, yet the LFC fans would feel better. I sell my favourite son for 150 million and throw in the other two. I don’t think you turn down that kind of money, but it be funny if Barca pulled the offer after LFC thought they had it. I am not completely sure that these prices will be around next season, at some point this craziness will have to stop or teams will start going all Leeds United on us. This will be a great “stock market” type study case, some will sell at the peak of the market and others will wait 6 months too long and it will end up costing their team millions. Can’t wait for a team who overspent having a fire sale at some point in the next season or two.
That’s exactly what will happen and why Liverpool should take the money – or should I say, should have taken the money 😉
I know the market is crazy but 150mln for Coutinho is super-crazy!! He ain’t that good! Not sure they’d even miss him that much anymore given how Salah, Mane and Firmino have started. Crazy money.
If they don’t trust themselves to be able to spend the cash elsewhere they should all be sacked, cos that is just incompetent.
Given the comments that some of their fans have made towards Coutinho over the last week (plane crashing etc) or so I would love it if he now stayed, though I doubt very much it will happen – nothing ever works out that funny!
Regarding the comments made by fans, they’re no different to the comments made by fans of other teams when players leave or want to leave.
Pretty sure I’ve never heard someone wanting a player’s plane to crash before.
I’m sure if I looked hard enough I could find comments of a similar ilk.
I’m not for one minute condoning such comments. Liverpool fans above all others know what it’s like to experience a tragedy and really should know better than making such stupid comments.
Yes exactly
Thinking of utilizing the WC folks and would appreciate any input..
Currently:
Foster/Elliot
Davies, Stephens, Dann, Mee Mbemba
Willian, Ramsey, Salah, KDB, Carroll
JRod, Kane, Lukaku
Defense – Worried about Stephens starting, Palace are pish and Burnley not been great at home
Midfield – Willian place under threat with Hazard return, Arsenal are Arsenal and KDB playing too deep
Strikers – Kane not firing but think he will shortly
WC team
Foster (Elliot)
Davies, Jones, Cedric, Stones (Mbemba)
Micky, Erikson, Salah (Chiobalah, Carroll)
Firminho, Morata, Lukaku
Defense – Like having spurs, united, city, Southampton and brom cover
Midfield – Swaying between micky and pogba….are there better 4.5 options? Possibly RLC
Striker – Worried about not having Kane but think Firminho/Morata shall accumulate more points that Kane/JRod (also spurs cover with Erikson.
Thoughs? Stick or twist? also have 2FT currently and also contemplating KDB/Rambo to D.Silva and Micky and saving the WC
I need our help!
Ranger, your current team is not bad and with 2 free transfers in your pocket you can afford to take a hit and make 3 moves and keep your wildcard.
Don’t lose Kane whatever you do – he is the best captain option over the next 10 weeks or so and you will want him.
I would honestly do nothing right now – there are too many high profile things happening or about to happen in the last 2 days of the transfer window. Let the dust settle and see who is where and how it impacts who you have.
Provisionally I like KdB, WIllian/Rambo and J Rod out for MIkhi, Brady and Firmino. Is that doable?
Cracking read, as always, guys. I’m trying to go with a more reserved strategy this year. I’ve nearly always blown my WC by now, but I’m gonna try and last until the GW7 IB this time. I’m also actually spending a few quid on defense for once, which is paying off so far. Thanks for highlighting Brady. He wasn’t particularly on my radar, but I’ll be keeping an eye out now.
Zzzzz…. 😉
Reserved strategy… :whatever:
Haha I said ‘trying’. I’m sure I’ll fail and WC this IB and spend all my money on forwards! 😉
