Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2017-18

The International break gives us all the first opportunity to sit back and assess how we have fared so far. For some it’s a time of quiet reflection, for others it’s time for a Wildcard! Either way it’s a nervous time for fantasy managers as they wait and see if their stars return in one piece from their journeys far and wide. This particular break also sees the transfer window close so much can change, players will be added, some will be waved goodbye. We’ve decided to take a bit of a break ourselves for a few days but before we do we have asked a few of our regular writers to reflect on their own seasons so far, their fantasy plans and also their take on the season in general. Between them Cookie, Mito and Kop have had a good degree of success in fantasy games in the past. Now ok, that may be in Fantasy Cycling, Fantasy MLS and Fantasy NFL but it all still counts yeah? Yeah? No?! Well ok, Mito and Cookie have anyway. Kop just seems to enjoy playing these days. But as long as he’s happy, we’re happy, and all that… Joking aside, these lot follow football day in, day out and you’d be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable or dedicated trio. So, let’s go see how their Fantasy PL seasons are going…

Evening fellas, finally getting a bit of time with a computer so get to read this non sense 😉

So Liverpool are looking like signing Ox where as Swansea look like signing Renato Sanchez on loan. is it just me or are Swansea getting the better deal? In all seriousness though, will Ox start and if so where? There isn’t any of the starters that I’d play him instead of except Gomez but Ox doesn’t want to play there. At 6mil he could be a very cheap way into a brilliant attacking team for the double up. What are everyone’s thoughts?

Totally agree that Swansea are getting the better deal there! I’m amazed they’re pulling that off. I don’t think Ox gets in any top 6 team. I think he’s only worth considering if he goes to a smaller club where he’ll play every week.

Well maybe klopp’s thinking of replacing either can or wijnaldum certainly not any of the front 3.

      • Matt says:

Wiji had the best game I’ve ever seen him play against Arsenal and Can has been showing his potential lately so I wouldnt feel comfortable leaving either out.

        • No1likesus says:

He must have had some assurances from klopp after all he did turn down a move to Chelsea.

        • Matt says:

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Only thing that makes any sort of sense is if he plays 3 at the back with another up field ehicy I hope he doesn’t do.

        • No1likesus says:

It’s a strange signing it doesn’t improve the team.

        • Matt says:

Yeah the only thing that improves the team right now is CBs and even a keeper but I don’t see that happening in the next 24 hours.

        • Kop Warrior says:

I’m not convinced by AOC but I trust Klopp and he should fit our style of play. It’s been clear for a while that we lack squad depth and this signing will help that.
Obviously we still desperately require a decent centre back.

        • Matt says:

Yeah I’m sure Klopp has a plan for him but Ox wants game time so he must have been promised it to reject Chelsea. Just trying to figure out how.

        • No1likesus says:

35 million on a player I don’t rate… Liverpool are fine going forward desperately need defenders.

        • Kop Warrior says:

It doesn’t really matter if you or I rate him!

It look like Ox may play attacking CM for Liverpool according to SkySports, who are not so reliable

Hi Matt, maybe one for Kop / Elle / any other Liverpool fans too, if they’re about…

Finally just managed to watch MOTD2 and wow were you good. But… are you expecting this will be like last season again where you do this in the big games and struggle against the lesser ones again or have you gone beyond that now? Danny Murphy noted on there the change in tactics which was very interesting – deliberately dropping off to invite pressure and counter. Still not sure that’ll work against the lesser ones as they’ll try the same thing. Could end up with lots of the Monty Python philosophers football matches!

Basically what I’m asking is do I go grab Salah / Mane to go alongside Firmino or just go for Alli / Erik.

      • Matt says:

Hey Init. To be honest I think Liverpool will still be weak at the back at times but overall I actually think they have improved. We seen the bad side of them against Watford but then they preformed pretty well against Palace who are the bogey team. I guess we will still see some bad results until a proper CB comes in but there will definitely be goals scored for us. I wouldn’t be worried about doubling up I’m thinking of doing it but whom ever you pick don’t start changing just stick with them.

Great article Guys ! Cookie no need to apologise about Hudds you are right ! Think the next 2 games against the Hammers away and Leicester at home will provide sterner tests !
Nice to see none of you have tipped us to finish in the bottom 3 though ! Interesting to see Lukaku not included in your core players if you were playing a wildcard.I’m thinking of hopping off him in a couple of weeks !

Great Job guys as usual since i already did my WC in GW3 it s a rather boring and slow break … couldn’t resist getting players out of my team that would light it up on GW3 (jesus daniels lowe salah & bertrand) were shipped out and i made a new friend in johnny walker to forget…

I am in two places atm. Really want to change under-performing players but at the same time want to stay calm & be patient

      • dadinho says:

if the under-performers are known quantities the you can stick with them as they are due. But it is really better to be patient than react to quickly. The reasoning behind my WC was money have a squad of 100 and 1.5 itb so although the GW result was low for a WC i think i should be ok and i dont have a choice anyway smile

Surprised to only find alonso as a pick for all of you in the core 5. Also surprised how easily alexis and kun have fallen they were as sure as death and taxes in FPL
