Grab, Avoid or Bore off!

Our first installment of Grab, Avoid or Bore off for the 2015-16 season is ready. For those new to the site, it is a simple question and answer segment that covers everything from the serious to the absurd. So why do we call it that? Tradition, is the easy answer as we basically have veered so far off course that we look like a Tiger Woods tee shot. So glad to get the fellas back together as they offer their opinions on everything from going without Haz & Kun to Giroud’s choice of underwear. So without further ado, let’s ask our “experts” some questions on the minds of many and some on the minds of none.

Evening Gents, what say you to this team so far? This is the option of holding off on Aguero until GW4 smile

Loving this team an the minute. So much attacking threat from all over.

    Smash10 says:

I think you can have Aguero and Costa. I don’t think you can have Hazard as well.

    Tekno-kun says:

“Aston Villa can confirm that Fabian Delph has exercised the release clause in his contract and will join Manchester City,” it said.

“We’d like to wish him success in his future career.”

    Wtf :big-lol:

So hes decided to sit on your bench, idiot.

      inittowinit says:

That bench is filling up nicely Tekkers. What an idiot.

      Andy says:

A little harsh guys, moving from Villa to Man Citeh is a no brainer, Villa have lost their best CB in Vlaar and now Benteke will more than likely be off, all this with a chairman in Lerner who doesn’t want to be there, Villa look like a sinking ship.

      • Smash10 says:

Interesting how Benteke is off and then Delph suddenly does a U turn

        • KI says:

It looks to me as if Villa may be imploding (Vlaar’s gone walkabout, too). Timmy may end up hugging Ade again, praying for a miracle.

      • Tekno-kun says:

Don’t really think you’re an idiot for going from a relegation candidate to Champions League football, fighting for titles, and a hefty paycheck. Very few players can say they’re first choice on a top team, so for Delph being a squad player for City is probably the best it’s gonna get.

        • Raziel says:

Personally I’d rather have Milner than Delph.

        • Raziel says:

Milner didn’t wanted to move away from City because he wanted to play regularly right? They did offer him another contract? Very usable player, with Bentekers Pools best signing. Though, I think they paid too much for Bentekers.

        • inittowinit says:

I respectfully disagree Tekkers. Sort of. I was pleased last week when he appeared to do a U-turn and thought he’d seen the light. His career is on the up right now to the extent that he’s forced his way into the England side. If he’s been promised a starting berth and that’s changed his mind then that’s fine. If he hasn’t then I stand by the above as he’s basically opted for treble the wages just to train there for a year or two before moving back to a middle of the road club and losing his England spot in the process due to not playing. See Rodwell and Sinclair.

        • Tekno-kun says:

The thing about Rodwell and Sinclair is that buying them never really made any sense. Rodwell was a talent, sure, but unrefined and Sinclair was never gonna be a starting option. Still, they ended up winning some titles and playing in the CL, which they’ll probably never experience again. A fresh CM player was needed this year as Fernandinho and Fernando looked uninspired last season, and while I don’t see Delph starting every match, I can see why he’d think it’d be better to play occasionally for a team in the CL and fighting for titles rather than playing regularly for a relegation candidate.

        • inittowinit says:

I can experience what they experienced. From the stands. They played no part in any of that. They trained with the people that did all that. That’s all.

        • Personally I think chasing trophies is only worthwhile if you play an important role.

        • Tekno-kun says:

Yup. all they did was be a part of a title winning squad, something you, me, and most footballers could only dream of. Personally I think it’s a bit silly to judge people’s choices when you never have, nor ever will, be in a similar situation yourself.

        • inittowinit says:

It’s still relative Tekkers. I know you are young and have never worked a day in your life but surely you can imagine the situation where your colleagues celebrate something they’ve worked on all year but you’ve been no part of it whatsoever other than being unused support staff. I wouldn’t take any pleasure from that because I’ve not contributed. Especially when it’s meant that my career has gone unnoticed and I’ve lost my England chance as a result.

        • @Tekkers we all chase different things mate. Most of us played on teams at some level. I only say it because every time I was on a squad that I did not contribute much to, I didn’t feel a bit of happiness for having won anything. Best memories are always of those teams I played a major role in even if we didn’t win anything. That is the competitor in me. But If I needed the money and had needs that superseded my need to feel like a real contributor on a team and not bench fodder, I go.

Having said that, I don’t rate Fernando or Fernandinho, so all is not lost.

        • inittowinit says:

Mito if you feel you can’t live on (not you, him) £35k a week and need £90k I’d say you need to take a look at yourself!

        • Kop Warrior says:

Delph is what is commonly known as ‘a whore for the money’!!

        • Tekno-kun says:

Well, if you’ve played for teams in a way that’s even of some importance you have more experience in that sort of situation than me as it’s always only been playing with friends for me. But here where talking about playing at the very top of English football, and that’s a bit different. You shouldn’t underestimate the allure of being a part of a squad that’s always chasing titles, playing in Europe, and the money that comes with that, even if you’re just a useless part. That’s more than 99.9% of us could ever hope for.
Still, I’m not happy with how these players were treated and what seems like completely senseless transfers, probably just because they were English. I’m hoping that City actually have a plan with Delph and brought him in for a reason.

And I worked as a newspaper delivery boy for 2 years just so you know!!!! (though I’m not sure if that counts as a real job)

        • Only counts if you had to ride a bike and toss them.

        • Tekno-kun says:

I rode a bike and put it in their mailbox 6 days a week. Decent pay too

        • I probably would have left the job for a higher paying one. #Delph

          :hippo:

      Tekno-kun says:

Meh, think he’ll get the nod over Fernando and Fernandinho based on their disappointing performances last season. He’ll at least get the chance to prove himself.

    • 10.5

What’s the depth chart at holding mid at City?
      Yaya
      Fernandinho
      Fernando

      Is that right?

      • Smash10 says:

Anyone think Yaya might play further forward this year? Off Aguero with Silva and Sterling on the wings

      • Tekno-kun says:

Nah, it’s more like Yaya AND a holding mid, so he’ll only fac competition from Fernandinho and Fernando. The holding mid is there to do the defensive work to allow Yaya to go forward.

        • Smash10 says:

          That’s pretty attacking then.
          Sterling
          Silva
Aguero and Bony. Lots of goals there and very exposed up the other end

        • Tekno-kun says:

Yup, which is why Mancini usually put another holding mid in there and pushed Yaya further forward against big teams – the kind of tactical changes Pellegrini has been very bad at doing.

    Great Bore Off guys.

Well done Mito. The questions were better than the answers in some cases 😉

    KI says:

May I get some comments on this draft? I’ve stared at the Kun problem forever, and would like to see how the first four weeks go.Tech illiterate that I am, I can’t pull my profile in?, so in plain text:

    Pantilmon Schmeichel

    Jagielka Morgan Alderweireld Azipilcueta Cook

    Cabaye Hazard Mahrez Milner Ritchie

    Kane Benteke Rooney

I’m grateful for any and all….

    • 12.1

@Ki, Not fond of Jags with his fixture list and the same can be said for Cabaye. Doesn’t look like Morgan will be ready from the start and Cook prospects for starting seem a bit up in the air.

    • 12.2
      inittowinit says:

Hi KI, fairly solid core. Few issues on the periphery. Jags has bad fixtures to begin with. Morgan may not be a starter. The keepers don’t rotate well. You can check rotation here –

      https://fantasyfootball247.co.uk/fixture-tracker/

Those 2 rotate home and away only 8 times all season. Look for a better pairing with at least 20 odd if not 30 rotational games. I know you may not keep them all season but it’s a start.

      • KI says:

        Guys,
Thanks for the awesome insights. A particular apology to Init: I was looking at the table when I picked Pantilmon (he won a league for me last year). But, misread the numbers. And I do try to get defender matches from the table, which is nailed above my desk computer-but I find this a little more difficult. So, I’d like to redraft as follows:

        Fabianski (for Pantilmon) Schmeichel

Azpilicueta Ward Alderweireld Darmian (for Jagielka) Mings (for Cook) (I’m looking here for a Bournemouth defender, and I can’t figure who’s nailed on)

Hazard Milner Mahrez Ritchie Redmond (I really like Cabaye, and will leave room to bring him back on game 7)

Kane Rooney Benteke (Here, I’m assuming the transfer will go through)

Again, thanks for all the comments (and the consistency in them)

        • inittowinit says:

Ki I don’t think you need to actually apologise! I appreciate the politeness but it was only a suggestion!

I like Cabaye too and I’m considering him from the off. Palace were good from set-pieces last season from memory and he’ll be taking them all I expect. Assist gold I think.
