Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!

Grab, Avoid or Bore off!

Our first installment of Grab, Avoid or Bore off for the 2015-16 season is ready. For those new to the site, it is a simple question and answer segment that covers everything from the serious to the absurd. So why do we call it that? Tradition, is the easy answer as we basically have veered so far off course that we look like a Tiger Woods tee shot. So glad to get the fellas back together as they offer their opinions on everything from going without Haz & Kun to Giroud’s choice of underwear. So without further ado, let’s ask our “experts” some questions on the minds of many and some on the minds of none.

Hmmm. Soton should have a decent squad still this season:
Stekelenburg (if he can find 2010 form :p)
Cedric – Yoshida (temp) – Fonte – Bertrand
    Clasie – Wanyama
    Tadic – Mane – S Davis
    J. Rod

2nd draft of the night!!! Love the ridiculous tinkering of pre-season! How’s this for a non Aguero team? smile

So a quick reference point on Kun. Last season he finished at the World Cup on the 13th of July, this year he finished on the 4th of July with his Copa America participation. However they offset because the EPL season starts 8 days earlier this season. So basically it is about the same difference as last year in actual days.

Pellegrini had him play 8 minutes GW1 and 23 minutes in GW2. So if last year is anything to go by, we should not expect him to start GW1 and possibly not 2 either. The second game is vs CFC anyway, so not ideal even if he did.

Having said all that, he still managed 6 fantasy points in both games despite barely playing. smile But if nothing else, it I least allows us to think that we could get away with not having him until week 3. Due to minutes and that 2nd fixture, however have an emergency plan at your disposal! 😉

    Hi All,
Great read to kick off the season (bar the transfer news)
    How does this look?

    Speroni/Krul
    Johnson/Morgan/Lescott/Baker/Alderweireld
    Hazard/Henderson/Sterling/Cabaye/Wanyama
    Aguero/Deeney/Rooney

Else can do Depay and 5.5m def for Lescott and Sterling

@PeterPan, first thing that stands out to me is the keepers. They don’t rotate terribly in the first 19 weeks, as the only GWs that they are home and away at the same time is from 9-13. However their fixtures don’t line up great in terms of favourable.
Stoke plays Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal in 3 of the first 5. So that’s not ideal. I looked at Stoke’s last vs that opponent. Last 3 games vs Liverpool at the Britiannia and last 3 away trips to Spurs and Arsenal and they have one CS in the 9 and have allowed an average of 18 goals. Don’t think Baker will start and most believe Morgan wont make the first game or two because of the Gold Cup.

      • PeterPan says:

Wow thats some intense research Mito, thanks.
Who would you recommend as budget keepers that rotate well then?

Morgan is cheap and doubt will be used too often, can change Johnson for another 5m def.
Baker is more of a filler… but dont think there is a guaranteed 4m def starter yet… unless Ive missed something?

        • I probably go for a 5.5 guy and Hennessey from Palace since he seems to be the only 4.0 guy with a chance to grab the spot at some point. If you prefer to keep it to only 9.0 then Myhill and Ruddy could get you far along until Foster comes back from injury. Not perfect Home/away rotation but fixtures wise they are ok. Of course who ever you bring in as keeper could depend on your defenders. So I will put the 9.0 GK rotation chart for you to have a gander at. And yeah Morgan will probably be fine after GW2 or 3 so if you can hold you should be ok.

As far as 4.0 starters, let me know if you hear of one. smile

        • PeterPan says:

          Thanks
Myhill/Ruddy are the same H/A GW 1-6 then 7-17 differ. How long is Foster meant to be out for?
Speroni/Krul differ H/A 1GW 1-8 then same for 9-13 then differ again afterwards (didnt look past gw 18)

Think Yoshida is worth apunt? Provided Saints dont buy another CB? Also considering Cedric but Saints in Europa might be troublesome.

        • Think the word is he will be back in October. I will get clearance from the guy did that GK rotation chart and see if he be ok with us putting it with the Home and away rotation chart, that way we all have a quick reference point.
Looks like Saints are after a CB, so we will have to wait and see if they get one.

        • PeterPan says:

I thought rotating keepers always meant one was at home…
thats what I try look for when picking a pair and generally go with the home keeper (big clubs dependent)

        • Yeah I guess, rotating is probably mostly used when talking about home and away. But if you are playing the fixtures with two keepers I guess they are technically rotating to a degree, but yeah I see your point. I will call them ” fixture dependent changing keepers” smile
