Grab, Avoid or Bore off!

Our first installment of Grab, Avoid or Bore off for the 2015-16 season is ready. For those new to the site, it is a simple question and answer segment that covers everything from the serious to the absurd. So why do we call it that? Tradition, is the easy answer as we basically have veered so far off course that we look like a Tiger Woods tee shot. So glad to get the fellas back together as they offer their opinions on everything from going without Haz & Kun to Giroud’s choice of underwear. So without further ado, let’s ask our “experts” some questions on the minds of many and some on the minds of none.

I’d really appreciate any comments on my team. I have 2m in the bank to do a straight costa-aguero swap when he’s fit/form. I have Aarons at 5m and don’t know if he’s worth it. i saw him play last season and he was magnificent scoring and assisting in a 3-3 thriller vs i forgot who. he also scored the following week against city away then got injured for the whole season. anyways heres my team:

Aarons is the most promising player we’ve had for a while but he’s not a guaranteed starter. With McClaren coming in nobody knows what his starting 11 will be. If he does become a regular starter he could be 1 of the bargains of the season

A few comments about the defence. I think Crystal Palace will have some value there but their fixtures to start with are very challenging. I’d maybe look for a player with easier matches than Ward at least to start with. I’d change Morgan to Huth who I think offers more of a goal threat and should be fresher. Bennett I don’t think will play so I’d try to upgrade him to Martin of Norwich who can score well for a defender.

I really like the strikeforce – its a bit different but I’d always be ready if I were you to do the Costa to Aguero move at the drop of a hat.

Drafting the team for the first time..RMT

    Ruddy, Butland (Norwich- Stoke rotation)
Koscielny/Azpilicueta, Morgan, Naughton, Richards, Olsson (1 elite defender and 2 rotating defenders Leicester & Swansea+ West Brom and Villa)
Walcott, Hazard, Henderson/Milner, Pugh, McCarthy (3 good midfielders and 1 rotation)
    Rooney, Aguero/Bony, Deeney

Walcott and Olsson are risky as their place is not guaranteed. But they can be replaced by their team-mates Ramsey/Cazorla/Ozil and Lescott/McAuley who are much more guaranteed starters.

What’s hard is choosing between Koscielny and Azpilicueta..Chelsea’s defence will be rock solid but, the acquisition of Cech gives me a bit more confidence in Arsenal defence too. Hence the dilemma.

Milner/Henderson will also be decided based on pre-season form. Preferably Henderson as he has spot kick duties too but at the moment can’t ignore the industrious Milner as well.

    Thoughts, please.

      Love the user name :smiling:
      Love the squad
Love the reasoning behind it – you haven’t just thrown this one together in a minute have you?

For me Aguero/Rooney/Deeney is near impossible to pick holes in. In my latest draft I have the same so I’m a little biased.

If that is McCarthy of Everton (I assume it is), I know Tottenham are credited with interest in him. A decent player but not exciting fantasy wise – what are your alternatives there?

Goalkeepers are a good pair and the defence is maybe only Morgan – Huth away from being tight, assuming that is Martin Olsson of Norwich there. Naughton is a sneaky pick which I like. If Luis does move to Atletico and noone else comes in (i.e. to play left back) then I’ll be getting Azpi in myself.

Well done and good luck for the season.

      • Heisenbergkamp says:

Nope. I haven’t thrown this in a minute. It took me 1 and half hours of tinkering to get this team..
Even am not satisfied with McCarthy and Pugh, so I have come up with Aarons of Newcastle and Surman of Bournemouth. Aarons, especially is a risky pick but he is a decent prospect. Have to monitor his progress under McLaren.

The other changes I made was Morgan- Huth.. Olsson is the west Brom defender.. Who is not nailed on to start..So with the extra 0.5 of Surman- Pugh swap I have gone for more guaranteed starter Lescott.

Oh, and regarding the username, I just came up with the idea 2 years ago in fantasy football cheat website..

The idea was to give the name Heisenfergie but it blossomed into Heisenbergkamp.

      Andy says:

I think it’s going to be real tough figuring out the dilemma between Hendo and Millner this pre season, Pools pre season opponents aren’t the greatest so there’s going to be plenty of opportunities for both to shine by getting forward often, when it comes to the EPL however one of them will have to sit back more when they play away from home or against one of the top four, I think Hendo will be given the licence to roam forward but that’s just a guess right now.

Can’t disagree with any of the above reasoning just yet for any of the other players as it all looks like a decent idea but I’ll admit to doing no rotation research at all so far, I think I’ll leave all that kind of work till after the charity shield.

I will however make the argument for having 2 premium defenders instead of just one with the way the BPS system played out last year, there looks to be plenty of starting defenders from the top four teams listed at 5.5 which I think could be well worth it this season. Even gks look better value with most of them being 5.5 as well.

      • Heisenbergkamp says:

I do admit that 2 good defenders and 3-way rotation is better than the idea of having 1 good defender and two 2-way rotations. In fact, last season I used the same 2 premium defenders and 3-way rotation to grab some good points. But if am going with that approach this time, I don’t think I can fit in the manchester forwards with ease.

GK’s- I never go beyond 9.5 investing in GK’s. Change in BPS save points will favour Gk’s if they are capable of making good saves. Again, last season it was Mannone/Pantilimon- Heaton combo that I used to get some good points.

        • Pants doesn’t look like a bad investment, if he were 4.5 I definitely take him without a doubt. He did well last season in general even when playing difficult teams. Averaged 4.3 against Arsenal/City/CFC/Spurs/Saints/Liverpool and with saves being worth more this season he might have sneaked a bonus point or two. Don’t think we can ask much more from him considering what his price was last season. If he were 4.5 he be in no questions asked.
