Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

International break time can only mean one thing, it is ‘Bore off’ time. This time around we have brought some fresh faces in while still keeping one from the old guard.

Smash makes his second appearance on GABO, you will usually find him on Team News covering pressers where he is always fighting with Wolves & Watford and misspelling Doucouré, much to Frenchie’s delight.

Kralin makes his debut. I haven’t crossed paths often with Kralin on the boards so I asked someone to describe him for me and this is what he told me. “18th century gentleman. Puts on a full 3 piece suit and top hat before siting down to comment on the site. Probably has a butler to type his words out for him.”

Kop is basically old furniture here at GABO. He is an original on this article and anytime he is not busy fighting with anyone who has a positive outlook on life we are happy to have him.

Ok, enough of the intros, let’s get it on!

Haha, brilliant article this!!! Funny and informative at the same time!!! Plus it always tickles me in the right place when Kralin uses the phrase “might be pushing your luck a bit”!!! Never gets old!!! 😆 smile

It’s the way I tell ’em, ZL. But I’m pleased to bring a little light to your life.

Off-topic, and on the off-chance you may know, but how well regarded is Unknown Soldiers by Linna in Finland? I’ve been toying with the idea of reading it for ages. Would be nice to know of its reputation (if any) in its country of origin.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

It’s huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge in Finland, one of two books that are most read and most known here in Finland! It’s a great book!! The other one is “Seven Brothers” by Aleksis Kivi, who was the first writer in Finnish language, the ones before him were writing in Swedish (you know Finland was part of Sweden for centuries?). But yeah, the “Unknown Soldier” (the original title is not a plural by the way) is massive in Finland, they read it in school and it’s widely regarded as the best Finnish book of all time, there are also countless movie adaptations and so on! Linna is a hero here smile

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Although I gotta add a lot of its charm is in the different dialects of Finnish language, so the book depicts these soldiers who are fighting in the war and they come from all over Finland, having different dialects, and Linna has just about every Finnish dialect in the book, and there are quite many! I am from the capital myself and so a lot of these dialects, to me, are both interesting and funny at the same time! That’s a rather big part of the book and is obviously lost in translation…

Hey guys – toying with the idea of a WC, as a few issues I’m not happy with in my current team, but not convinced it’s WC-worthy… First pic below is my current team (I have 1 FT and a big fat zero ITB)… Second one is the WC team that’s tempting me.

    So, stick or twist?!

      • RedKev says:

I don’t think that’s worth it myself tbh! Think Neves could do as well or better than Hughes and maybe even Fraser. I like Arnie and be a shame to drop Moura but if want those 2 forwards how about:

        Arnie/King/Moura/Ralls >
        Vardy/Ings/Pereyra/Billing(or Hojbjerg)

Does that work? Would be 2 less moves and think leaves tiny bit itb so would allow you to take a couple of price changes and do it over couple of weeks rather than WC?

      Kop Warrior says:

      Kezzy,

Looking at the players you plan to bring in I really don’t think you need to WC. These players are unlikely to hurt you if you don’t own them.

      • KezzyK says:

Cheers Kop Warrior and RedKev – definitely good points. Didn’t think of your point about those players not hurting me if i don’t have them. Yeah RedKev, those moves over a few GWs look good.

Think you’ve convinced me to not pull the trigger and roll the transfer… now just need to stay away from it through the international break boredom!

      Smash says:

Agree with the others just not worth it

      • KezzyK says:

Sounding unanimous now! Cheers Smash. My bench still looks horrendous (to me anyway) – Neves/Ralls/Peltier – but I reckon I can run with it, save a transfer and perhaps remedy it all with a 3 transfer -4 pt hit week in the next GW.

      SAFs_hairdryer says:

Stick. The players you’re bringing in might seem good now but the mids are dirt cheap for a reason. Soon enough their form will drop and you’ll be stuck with a new bench full of duds

    TheGman says:

Hi all. I’m also toying with the wildcard… International break maddness… Time to drop Salah! For me, Hazard and the money are a bargain exchange especially with Mane and Robertson Liverpool cover.
Any thoughts anyone? Have I spread myself too thin? Should I put Milner in as further pool cover? Has the Perreyra boat sailed do we think? Holebas over Cook?
Any thoughts at all much appreciated as I’m slowly going mad look at my screen smile

      KezzyK says:

It’s a fine looking team GMan, no doubt – just a few thoughts though. Schurlle and Mitro seems like too much cover from Fulham. On Pereyra, I don’t think his ship has sailed, but has a couple of tough games coming up after the break. That said, I’d consider Holebas instead of Cook, as Watford look strong on set pieces and may nick a goal or two despite the tough fixtures.

Going without Salah is the big one for me though. I definitely see the argument of Hazard plus money, but I’m firmly on the stick-with-Mo train. Mane is on fire, but his stats suggest he is massively over-performing, whereas Salah is under-performing (albeit very slightly). Long term, I think Salah is more likely to keep up the performance levels and if he goes nuts, your madness is going to be amplified!

Though, if you’re set on no Salah, the team looks good, but maybe look at Schurlle to Fraser, Cook to Holebas?

      • Smash says:

Agree with Kezzy here. Plus Ings is a bit expensive to be on the bench

        • Kruzcampo says:

Do you think that teams are concentrating on stopping Salah,as the dangerman, leaving Mane to score the goals from the space provided?

        • Smash says:

I could be wrong but I believe Salah has still got more chances. Mane has just been a lot more clinical this year. There could be something in that though

        • Kruzcampo says:

I saw an article where Klopp said Mane had finally understood that he was a great player and deserved his place on the field. Looks like his confidence has received a huge boost and he is producing the goals.

      Zed Leppelin says:

Seems like a benching headache to me smile

I’d downgrade someone in that front-8 if not for any upgrade then just to have some money in the bank! You don’t know, you might need it sooner or later!
