Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Usually when we ask our writing team to come forth for an International Break GABO we see tumbleweeds in abundance, and little sign of actual writers. This time however, for whatever reason, they were literally scrambling over each other to get involved. So much so that we have no less than two episodes of GABO to bring you in the break this time. We’ve decided to split them based upon perceived personality traits; Glass Half Full & Glass Half Empty. We say perceived personality traits… it was actually based solely on their original answers on WhatsApp to our request for entrants. Funnily enough, it was unerringly accurate.

First up then we have AT, Swirly and Rosco. AT and Swirly’s answers were very similar; when would you like it done by? As you’d expect. Rosco’s answer was a ‘brown thumb’…. which we took to mean a positive sign, others took it… well, we shall leave that to your own imagination.

  1. Morning all, this is already doing my head in lol.
    This is where I’m at – if we find out that Lukaku is fit then Bats will make way for Rash and I’ll have to downgrade elsewhere – Kepa maybe.
    Deulofeu is a punt but a good one I think

    • Looks great apart from I don’t trust Piggy up front and Patricio has a chance of rotation.

      • Any suggestions for alternatives? I could have Alli and Batshuayi instead of Del and Higuain? Not sure I really want any spurs players though.

        • Why not experiment with 442 or 352 and downgrade Piggy to the cheapest possible?

    • Looks nice. I prefer a punt on Higuain with those fixtures than a Spurs mid who prob won’t do too much damage with those fixtures. Spurs have a poor record against Palace of scoring goals, new stadium factor and other fixture is Liverpool away

    4-3-3
    Cheap defence but all the 3 cheapos have a good home game. Fair deal for the front 6?

    • 4-3-3 might be a great idea, I’ve been struggling to find a 4th mid to go alongside Pogba-Sterling-Haz but this might be the answer… I like the fact you have amazing attack, obviously the defense is a bit meh, Kiko will most likely not ply twice. I’d think long and hard whether you want Kane in the team or not, could do wonders to your defense dropping him to Higuaín or even Batsu smile

    • What does it look like without him? I think this issue is fundamental to most teams. Not saying I have an answer either way! I’ve certainly not decided myself. Gut says he should be one of the first picks, team itself says otherwise.

      • Don’t think he’ll get much (anything) against Pool really, so looking at it as a double for Kane is a bit deceiving. I’d say it’s a 1.5 Gameweek for Kane 🙂

        • And look at the past results of Spurs vs Palace laugh

        • Great, looks like a Palace def is a nice choice this week! I don’t really get the new stadium argument in favor of Spurs assets, might as well work against them.

      • @init: before that Jane take #1 this is what I had (and have atm).

        Before toying with the idea of having him in I thought it wouldn’t be possible/reasonable but after doing that draft it doesn’t look that bad in terms of balance and the front 6 seems more enticing that a front 7 without him. It’s a matter of how much faith we have in him scoring double digits and one or two of those cheapos in defence making a cleanie.

        • Pretty similar to mine in terms of team ‘coverage’ and indeed with 6 players in commun. I don’t know, I like the Son pick but everytime this time of the year it’s Kane & Alli that explode so I yeah Kane could be ‘the’ differential here . Lot to happen between now and then though.

    • Keepers may need a bit of work. Other than that it looks like a straight choice between Kane and Hazard.

      • Yes, I was thinking Ryan for Etheridge.
        Do you think Hazard could do better than Kane?

        • Looking at the fixtures I think Hazard could definitely do better than Kane. The sky, it seems to me, is the limit.

        • I couldn’t afford both myself and ultimately I chose Hazard. Although I’m not very happy about it!

    • Manusai- if you downgraded ur subs, u could do a lot better with your keepers. One of your keepers to Speroni, Billing to a 4.2, even maybe Obi Wan to a 3.8, – prob allows Kepa then?
