Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Usually when we ask our writing team to come forth for an International Break GABO we see tumbleweeds in abundance, and little sign of actual writers. This time however, for whatever reason, they were literally scrambling over each other to get involved. So much so that we have no less than two episodes of GABO to bring you in the break this time. We’ve decided to split them based upon perceived personality traits; Glass Half Full & Glass Half Empty. We say perceived personality traits… it was actually based solely on their original answers on WhatsApp to our request for entrants. Funnily enough, it was unerringly accurate.

First up then we have AT, Swirly and Rosco. AT and Swirly’s answers were very similar; when would you like it done by? As you’d expect. Rosco’s answer was a ‘brown thumb’…. which we took to mean a positive sign, others took it… well, we shall leave that to your own imagination.

Welcome to all, from the glass is half full club….

FH activated on Tuesday and haven’t changed my first draft. 0.6 in the bank. I’m only questioning Kane…that would be a late call which would see Camarasa upgraded. Is one Palace player enough? Lukaku or Rashford…

Any Scottish folk on the boards? What the bloody hell are your boys playing at? 😆

AT, I’ve just been rereading some of GABO Why aren’t you playing your TC this week?

Wonder if he had to come up with an embarrassing ailment to get out of it like Shaqiri; ‘inflammation in the pubic area’

      • Kop Warrior says:

Surely that’s legit? Why would you make up something like that? smile

        • AT says:

The amount of players with new injuries from Liverpool give me the impression that they all grouped around a table and pulled straws for which injury each of them would use as an excuse not to play the internationals and Shaqiri pulled the shortest one 😉

Does that mean he’s not fit or just another case of club over country and he’ll be rested and miraculously on top form for Watford and Wolves

Hello one and all! Some interesting comments have been made – in particular those designed to stir up the Scots amongst us (Cheap shots, I must admit! And by the way, Robbo’s absence probably weakened their defence considerable!). Leave dem Scots alone!
Hope everyone is fine and enjoying the IB (IS Rashers really out??? Hope not for MU!!! Come on Gareth, keep your waistcoat on mate!) – I have a question of a more general nature, namely:
I notice that most people are using their FH for GW 32 and then WCing (and I’m not talking about the privy, Rick!) later. I’d just like to know if you consider any dangers or stupidity in WCing for GW 32, ensuring a base for the end of the season, (teams doubling up in 32, also have 2 games in 35!) and just going for the FH to cope with GW 34 (also called ‘The Echo Chamber’, as there are so few teams playing – May also be known as the ‘Phantom Game Week’ or PGW for short! smile ) ? What do you all think? Am I missing something glaringly obvious, or has this already been discussed and I’ve turned up late for the party again? Thanks in anticipation – waiting with bated breath for your replies (Maybe that’s one of the side effects of too much garlic! smile ) .
    Cheerio!

Hi mate. The Robertson banter was just that. Don’t read into it. GP knows we are joking, as does Kop laugh

As for your question, if you read my chip strategy in the article (replacing my ‘FH33’ typo with ‘FH32’) I do give my reasons for choosing FH32 WC34 over WC32 and FH33. I did say I’d go over it in more detail if it doesn’t go into enough detail in the comments but I’m not a man of my word 😉

Thanks AT – appreciate your comments & I had already seen your opinion about FH & WC above. Basically I meant that if I want similar players in 32 & 35, then isn’t it better to WC and have a little divergence from that set team for 34? I dunno – it seems that you guys have got it all worked out for a reason, so will follow your example – there probably IS something I have missed (some people say that it takes me 6 months to realise things – but people are mean! smile ) Cheeers and thanks for the advice! smile AJW.

You need to take into consideration that 33 is a BGW if you WC this week. Unless you plan to FH in 33.

If WC remember Brighton have another double in 34. Pretty bloody good one.

        • AT says:

@AJW If you want the same players then WC is attractive. The only downside would be having a strong bench for bench boost in GW32 and 34. Playing the WC away from BB also exposes you to a greater risk of injuries plaguing your side and ruining your BB.
Like I said though, it isn’t a bad idea and could allow TC in 34 if you wanted.

        • AJW says:

Yes – thanks people – huge considerations! BHA doubles are tempting, but just like a band of Tory Brexiteers, they do seem attractive until dire reality comes and spits you in the face, and indicates that there are no magic solutions (until Mo Salah scores 4 goals in the next FPL lifetime!). Ohhhhh, I dunno what to do with myself (nor with my team!). Shall see how the internation encounters go! Bye to all and thanks for your advice! smile
