Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Usually when we ask our writing team to come forth for an International Break GABO we see tumbleweeds in abundance, and little sign of actual writers. This time however, for whatever reason, they were literally scrambling over each other to get involved. So much so that we have no less than two episodes of GABO to bring you in the break this time. We’ve decided to split them based upon perceived personality traits; Glass Half Full & Glass Half Empty. We say perceived personality traits… it was actually based solely on their original answers on WhatsApp to our request for entrants. Funnily enough, it was unerringly accurate.

First up then we have AT, Swirly and Rosco. AT and Swirly’s answers were very similar; when would you like it done by? As you’d expect. Rosco’s answer was a ‘brown thumb’…. which we took to mean a positive sign, others took it… well, we shall leave that to your own imagination.

Welcome to all, from the glass is half full club….

  1. evening all. hope all of you guys are having a good week so far

this is my first attempt of a free hit squad for dgw32. thoughts on this so far? any players i should consider bringing in for my next draft?

    • Hi kev, is that the cheapest way to cover Man City and Brighton in defence? Thinking Ederson (nailed) and Dunk myself. Reckon that saves you 0.3 over your current combo.

      • hey innit. it is in a way. currently have 0.9 itb (realized few minutes ago i had the wrong simpson in) and changed alli to son. ederson and dunk is not a bad option and 1 i could consider.

how is your free hit team shaping up so far?

  2. That’s a damn fine GABO that.

Thanks to all involved. Loved it.

Now ….. anyone playing Free Hit this week? 😉

    • Apprently I’m playing it next week in the article! laugh

    • Apparently, in one of the obscurer corners of fantasy football – the Norwegian league version, possibly – there’s a chip called ‘rich uncle’ which is like free hit, but with no budget restrictions. Which sounds good but I suppose would in the main lead to exactly the same side emerging. At least with free hit team value allows for some minor variations.

  3. Have managed to get “The Famous Five” into my FH team but which cheap GK to play? Etheridge, Guaita or Ryan? Any other ideas?

    • £0.0 itb

    • Ryan, very narrowly.

Foster the other, possibly better, option to consider

    • Anyone but Etheridge given those fixtures!

    • You sure about the balance mate?

      • The three defenders all have one clean sheet fixture and attacking potential. Schlupp is playing OOP, Deeney often scores two goals in a game and Knockaert is my crafty differential. All I have to do is pick the right GK to go with the five musthaves. Simples

        • As good reasoning as I’ve encountered anywhere so far.

I didn’t realise Schlupp is oop, so thanks for that tip.

I suppose with Etheridge you may see an epic number of save points. But I still fancy Foster more.

        • Is Zaha likely to be out? Kind of presumed he would be fit and Schlupp would not be an option

  4. Hi…based onGW 32 and upcoming features..which chip is suitable for me FH or WC.
    Here is my current team.
    Thanks

    • FH, on the face of it.

    • FH and jump on the cheapo defenders and midfielders. If playing a 3/5/2, bring Quaner in.

      Cut yourself some slack.
