Photo 22-04-2011 15 26 55We have gathered up six prestigious members / writers around Mito’s Round Table to answer a few quick fire questions in the lead up to the opening of the FPL season. They have been asked to make choices over some of the same key questions many of us are currently facing. As one would expect we got a wide range of varying answers, everything from a unanimous decision on formation to six different choices for Flop of the Year. See what our esteemed panel answered and please share your answers and views below, including that tricky last question. And don’t be shy; they sure weren’t when expressing their man crush.

Below is a self-described introduction to their FPL playing style.

    Silverback says:

Come on fellows Costa or Hazard ????

    • 25.1

Costa for me. There are plenty of midfield options, a bit harder picking a trustworthy forward. So if Costa continues on form, I prefer Costa.

      • inittowinit says:

Same here, I can fill that midfield up twice but the forwards look more limited until a few situations are sorted out.

        • Init.

Alright mate. What’s your thoughts on Lukaku then? In general and in FPL terms.

I’m considering it seriously as an alternative to the whole Man City striker conundrum.

        • Calvin Clyne says:

I’m someone who can’t handle Lukaku but is jealous of those that can. Whenever I bring him in he just shuts up like a clam! And of course cue the scoring runs as soon as I sell him. Only way I could get points out of him would be to just play him every game of the season, but his droughts are worse than his scoring runs are good for me to do that :-/

        • inittowinit says:

GP I’d just check with Calvin whether he owns him or not!

Seems a bit pricey on the face of it for my liking but he’s probably going to be Everton’s main source of goals and as you say vs the City lads at least you know he will play which is always a bonus!

Would he be your 3rd striker or one of the main 3 with a budget 3rd?

        • Calvin – can’t live with him, can’t live without him. Have you and Romelu considered counselling?

I undestand completely what you are saying though in all seriousness. I was on and off him (so to speak) last season and never really shook the earth for me either (so to speak).

Init – I’ll be playing him alongside Rooney and Costa every week probably.

      Calvin Clyne says:

I don’t have either, but would go for Hazard if you only want one. Guy ran the show at Chelsea last season, and each time he assists Costa he will only be getting one point shy of the big man himself.

      • Demsie says:

Yeah but the bPS come with the goal scorer.. instead of assists generally getting you sweet FA. Unless you get about 3 of them…

I’d still always prefer to have the goal scorer in my team, rather than the assister.

Still, not sure if Costa will be that man.. Chelsea seem to struggle with their big-signing strikers (historically) and I think 10.5 is a bit too much for an ankown quatity (in FPL terms).. I’ll be starting with Hazard in my team.

        Hello everyone by the way…

        • Calvin Clyne says:

That’s a good point Demsie. I believe the BPs are more geared towards successful dribbles this season though, so Hazard should also pick up a few for that.

        • Demsie says:

Well.. I’m not sure how many dribbles players ten to make in a game ?

          But you get:

24 BPS for scoring a goal as a striker (18 for a MF incidentally)
          9 for an assist
          1 for a successful dribble

Like I said I have no idea how many successful dribbles players make in a game, i’m just bringing the facts ! smile It may turn out that dribbling becomes a big part.. But I remember last season looking at potential pass completion rates at the season start..

and it turns out that goals and CS are what win the BPS the majority of times

        • Calvin Clyne says:

Wow are the dribble BPS that low?? Hadn’t gotten around to checking yet, just saw a lot of people mentioning it. Well Hazard still got 23 bonus points last year, which isn’t on a par with a striker in full form, but will certainly beat most other players.

        • Demsie says:

Cheers Cookie.. good to be back. I know you didn’t ask but here’s my life story anyway.. Been a massively busy summer with the little one, moving house and the Mrs having to work full time to essentially save her job.. Couldn’t even play WC FF (deeply upsetting).

Told the Mrs I have more important stuff to deal with than all that.. FPL starts in just over a week !

    Anti Top Four says:

Rough draft #2 – any feedback, questions, constructive criticism welcome…with Remi going to Liverpool I was in search for a 3rd forward, hoping Lukaku would head back to Evertan, which he did, hurray!

    Degea Myhill
    davies, mariappa, cameron, vlaar, collocino
    eriksen, barkley, mirallas, siggy, tadic
    rvp, shrek, lukaku

    cheers.

      NIN says:

ATF – The Remy deal is off. He’s not going to Liverpool mate.

      • Demsie says:

NIN.. My man. How goes it ?

I think ATF meant to say “ith Remy NOT going to Liverpool….” Hence him not being in his team. But I may be wrong….

Anyway ATF.. That’s a serious strikeforce you have but RVP & Rooney ? That’s a hell of an outlay should they draw a blank.. i’d prefer a third from another team (I appreciate your options are limited).. How about Spurs ? In fact, thinking about it, I think I’d rather have what you already have.

Your defence is very similar to mine and I don’t have the same constraints as you.. Only one I’d be worried about in MF is tadic as it’s a total punt, but it may pay off ! A good team you have there mate ! I bet you couldn’t believe your luck that MU finished outside the top 4 !! smile

        • NIN says:

Demise – Well hello there! Good to see you matey. Sounds like you’ve had a busy time of it of late. Eh, would Remy not be selectable again for ATF now that the deal is off? Liverpool finished top 4, 2nd in fact…

        • Demsie says:

Cheers NIN mate, good to be back.. Been busy but hopefully things are starting to settle down.

Blimey, that’s a bit of a noodle twister for someone with such a small brain as myself.. But yeah.. what you’re saying makes complete sense. Basically, it’s the same score as last year with me.. I have no idea what i’m talking about probably 94% of the time !

    Potty Procky says:

Costa will be like his dads business Costa Coffee…..we’ll Hot!
Remember he ain’t the normal type Spanish player.
He is a snarling beast who won’t get intimidated in the Premier League.
Think Billy Whitehurst and Duncan Ferguson rolled into one.
If you don’t start with him it’s your loss Boss.

    Burnsy says:

Is a back three of Evans, Koscielny and Luis fine?

    • 28.1
      • Burnsy says:

as in all starters and strong fixtures.

        • Demsie says:

I don’t know about Evans with regards to regular starts and I couldn’t even say Luis will definitely start either. Kos will I think so at least you’ve 1 out of 3 smile

        • Raziel says:

Evans is probably the best United defender this preseason. Luis… paying silly money not to play a 28 year old (29 this august)? Maybe a buy for the future? See if he develops? That would just be crazy. Agree with you on Kos.

Sighs, you just won’t know. Anyway, I think United could look like this at the start of the season:
          DDG
          Rafael – Jones – Hummels – Evans – Shaw
          Herrera – Vida
          Mata
          RvP – Rooney

With van Gaal as manager I can actually see them win the EPL.

    • 28.2
      NIN says:

Not for me. Evans is injury prone, not nailed and absolutely shite. Kos, meh, iffy. Luis, rotation worries.

      • webstar87 says:

Scathing assessment of Evans! I’m hoping he steps up, as he did a couple of seasons ago when he was actually injury-free, and leads the younger lads well.

        • NIN says:

webstar87 – As a United fan, i hope he does sort himself out but as it stands, very dodgy pick, for me.

    NIN says:

Morning folks. With Lukaku now nailed at Everton, do we reckon their players become a bit more appealing? Considering their fixtures their defenders aren’t all that appealing but Barkley at 7m looks a bit better now that they have a striker of quality in their ranks (beats the hell out of Naismith and Kone!). Young Ross is the only one i’m looking at as Lukaku for 9m is a bit of a gamble. Cheers.

    • 29.1
      webstar87 says:

Agree with you in that I’d rather have Barkley over Lukaku but I’m tempted to wait until their fixtures a bit softer (and to see if he nails that “hole” role”.

    • 29.2

      NIN,

      How you doing mate?

Lukaku in my eyes isn’t a gamble in respect of him being at the club already and having the experience of playing with the players for a season. As ‘new’ signings go, well you can’t really get much better preparartion in terms of settling in and being an immediate success.

He may be overpriced though for some fantasy teams and I would admit that.

      • NIN says:

Howdy GP. All is well with me mate. Yourself?

Yeah it’s the 9m price tag that’s a bit much for me but Barkley at 7m is actually tempting me. Could start with him and then switch straight to de Jong if he doesn’t get off to a good start vs Leicester. Hmmm…

      • NIN,

Not bad thank you – just counting these days down to the start of the season.

I had it at the back of my mind to go for Lukaku if he made it permanent this summer. Although I would have loved him to have been on a par with Dzeko/Jovetic price-wise, I can accomodate him at that price and I will now be giving it some serious thought. I like how it doesn’t affect the rest of my side and gives me a striker who will be playing every week.

        • NIN says:

GP – It just cant come quick enough! Ha.

If you end up going with Lukaku, who’ll partner him up top? A big three of Lukaku, Rooney and Costa? Or would you go with a budget/mid priced forward?

        • NIN,

          Rooney, Lukau, Costa up front
Mata, Ramsey, de Jong, Sigurdsson in behind.

        • musungu says:

Is Siggy a good play for GW1 – I thought he should come in GW2 but weho to have for just one week?

        • NIN says:

          GP – Beast!

        • Calvin Clyne says:

Second that, awesome attack. Starting to rethink mine now.. I was thinking how on earth do you get that much cash up front without having a threadbare defence, but Eriksen to de Jong and DDG to Mannone would let me do Dzeko to Costa. Hmm…

  6. 30

    Demsie,

Good to see you back on the boards mate.
