New FPL Transfers Bournemouth Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe

Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Bournemouth Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe. Cookie gets United’s latest additions, of course Init takes Everton and Matt has cherry picked Arsenal & City. And what about Kop I hear you ask? Well due to Liverpool’s insistence on writing apology letters rather than acquiring new players I’ve chosen Bournemouth! Why? I’m wondering that myself and should I come up with a worthwhile answer I’ll be sure to let you know. Enough about me, what about Bournemouth. This will be their 3rd straight season in the top flight finishing 16th in 2015/16 and 9th last season. They’ll certainly hope to continue on such a trajectory. To date they’ve added three players to their squad, spending a club record £20m on Nathan Ake who featured on loan for them last season. Sticking with former loan players they’ve also brought Jermain Defoe back to the club while they’ve also invested in goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. For now we’ll concentrate on the FPL prospects of Ake & Defoe.

Nathan Ake
Defender
FPL Price: £5.0m

Nathan Ake, remember him? Of course you do. How could we forget him after everyone got their knickers in a twist when Chelsea recalled him from his loan at Bournemouth last season. He was going to be a cheap route into the Chelsea defence, however he only featured twice towards the end of the season! Given some of the hysteria surrounding Ake (in FPL circles!) last season I was surprised to note that he only made 10 league appearances (two of which were cameos) for Bournemouth last season, he did however score three times during that period. He also helped Bournemouth pick up three clean sheets in his time on the south coast last season. Bournemouth’s defence certainly wasn’t their strong suit last year, only four teams conceded more goals! They will be hoping that the arrival of Ake and Asmir Begovic will help solidify a porous defence.

So what of his FPL prospects? Last season’s defensive stats are unlikely to inspire confidence and their opening fixtures are certainly a mixed bag. Relatively easy games against West Brom, Watford and Brighton are offset against more difficult games versus Arsenal, City and Everton. Perhaps the key to owning Ake is to identify someone who rotates well with him. The arrival of Ake could see club captain Simon Francis consigned to a place on the bench which would mean that Bournemouth’s likely back four are all priced at £5.0m. With new signing Jermain Defoe and last season’s hero Josh King vying for spot kick duties left back Charlie Daniels is unlikely to take any but he could yet prove a more enticing option than Ake.

Jermain Defoe
Forward
FPL Price: £8.0m

Modern day footballers are oft described as prima donnas and more often than not there is an element of justification to this but Jermain Defoe is undoubtedly one of the good guys. The time he spent with Bradley Lowery before the youngster sadly passed away means I and many others now hold Defoe in a much different light. But what about Defoe the footballer? He’s a goal scorer, nothing more nothing less. In total he has scored 198 goals in 535 league appearances. This will in fact be his second stint at Bournemouth having scored 18 times in 29 league appearances during a loan spell on the south coast back in 2000-01 when Bournemouth were in the 2nd Division which is now known as League One. It was so much easier when we had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th divisions! Many assumed his career was over when he moved to Toronto in 2014 but he was soon back in the Premier League with Sunderland where he scored 15 top flight goals in each of the last two seasons.

So what of his FPL prospects? I honestly can’t make up my mind! My initial reaction was that at £8.0m he’s too expensive to be played as your 3rd striker but having given it some thought I’m now not so sure. The general consensus when playing 3-4-3 is that our 3rd striker should be circa £6.0m – £7.0m (although I suspect that this consensus might very well change this season and the average 3rd striker could be priced at £10.m!) but these strikers more often than not are not overly reliable. Defoe on the other hand is reliable and could easily finish up with 15 goals again this season and if your 3rd striker is picking up 15 goals you’ll do ok. Should things go well for both Bournemouth and Defoe there’s possibly an argument to be made for making him your 2nd striker but this is not something worth considering at this early stage and with so many big hitters available up top this season it’s probably just a pipe dream. For now I certainly wouldn’t be concerned to see Defoe as a 3rd striker in a RMT!!

Thank you for the AFCB rundown Kop.

Defoe is there on my list but you know, the fact that Firmino is just £0.5M more and would offer my Liverpool coverage, at the same time freeing up a midfield spot, is kind of putting me towards that idea currently.

I did a couple of drafts last night and when I was £0.5M short, I went Firmno to Defoe without thinking too much. That might be a sign!

    Hi FF247 Team:
I wonder if it wouldn’t be useful if there was a dedicated “Rate My Team” column on the right hand side of the Home Page under the “Countdown” clock and right above the “Comments” column. This way, team ratings won’t have to be pushed around the comments section of the wonderful articles that you guys put up. The comments on those articles will remain specific, while the comments on “Rate My Team” would be continuous on that page alone. Just a thought. Cheers and keep up the great work.

Thought about it previously Punk but I’m not convinced. It’d have to have an article to be attached to so that’d basically be a RMT GW1 thing for example. And so and so forth. My main reason against it is that it’d just turn into a 2nd chat. Many good convos are born out of a RMT initially. Someone picks say Fabregas and then he’s debated up against picking say Willian instead. And so on.

See what others think anyway, anything is possible!

Hi PD. I understand where you’re coming from but it’s not my preference. Many discussions are made from the articles but the majority of content, especially pre season is RMTs. I could also see the RMT page being avoided like the plague if that was the case. Just my opinion though.

I am with you PD. I also want a tab for just myself, but the powers in charge, don’t like that.

Just putting it out there guys. Like Innit says, a preseason RMT, GW1RMT, GW2RMT and so on. I understand the articles lending so much added robustness and colors to RMT discussions and perhaps an unwanted consequence of less comments on well-written articles. I still hope you’d pilot it sometime and see how it works out. FF247 is still young but it’s the best fantasy forum out there. If it doesn’t work out, pull the plug. Else someone else will do it. Thanks guys though. 100K here I come.

Is nobody else finding that the site doesn’t scroll on mobile just after loading a page or comment?! It’s doing my head in but I’ve asked around and it’s just me so far apparently.

So I’ve tried this a little earlier than usual but here’s my first stab at a team. I almost always WC after about 3 weeks so I’m trying to avoid that by picking a team with the first 6 weeks or so in mind. t’s there to be shot at.

    Any suggestions?

I’m sure you are aware of Boer’s comments on RLC, so you probably need to rethink his first XI status. Rest looks good.

      • SAFs_hairdryer says:

I suppose there’s always the easy swap of bringing in Carroll, so I have that in my pocket if needed. I think RLC will come good later in the season though.

Similar distribution of funds to the one I knocked up earlier, at least in defence. Think I had KDB and Gayle split more evenly but other that it’s about the same throughout. Consensus seemed to be that I’d spent too much on defence. I’ll admit though that I spent less than 5 mins on it just to get my ball rolling really. I guess the advice stands though as it’s similar.

You can save 0.5 with Bailly to Lindelof. 4th and 5th mids need attention / monitoring but you know that. Not convinced on Jesus yet myself, I can see him occupying a wide position again.

      • SAFs_hairdryer says:

I considered Sane instead of KDB but I just can’t leave him out. He’s too good. I think Silva 2.0 could be a great buy if he gets a regular game. I could always trim a bit off the defence and had Yedlin pencilled in but GMac got the nod for the fixtures. Jesus could very easily be one of a number but there’s almost too many to choose from this season.

What are your thoughts on Knockaert? I haven’t seen a lot of him in other RMT drafts but his stats last year were impressive.

        • inittowinit says:

He was a shoe in for me until he departed the last game in a St Johns Ambulance smile Ok, that might be an exaggeration but he was certainly injured. Out for 3 weeks or so apparently.

As for KDB I was sure he’d be in mine and so probably still will be come the final draft. His price was a bit prohibitive but that was more to do with me restricting myself to picking it in 3 minutes than anything else smile

        • SAFs_hairdryer says:

          I’ll keep
An eye on him but sounds as if he may be back for the start of the season. First game is against Citeh so he’ll be on my bench for that anyway.

I’d need proof Pep is going to play KDB in his best position and he gets do what he does best.
Most of last season that wasn’t true, and IMO not worth the premium price.
Get someone a little cheaper, enough to bump Knock to someone you know will perform.
Also myself I dont like having a 5m def on the bench makes me think I could spend 0.5 better elsewhere
& if I added deG as overpriced Id have a1m to spend elsewhere

PPS Randolph to Newcastle if Raffa is allowed to buy anyone at all this summer when Krul leaves.

      • SAFs_hairdryer says:

I guess no one knows what Pep is going to do. KDB could be played anywhere. Same for the rest on Citeh’s team. It’ll be a wait and see every week. They tend to start strong every season and blow teams away so I’m banking on that with double coverage.

Point taken about the defence and to be fair I rushed it. I will have Lindeloff instead of Bailly and bag 0.5 if I think he’ll be a starter and then add that to any GMac savings.
