New FPL Transfers Bournemouth Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Bournemouth Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe. Cookie gets United’s latest additions, of course Init takes Everton and Matt has cherry picked Arsenal & City. And what about Kop I hear you ask? Well due to Liverpool’s insistence on writing apology letters rather than acquiring new players I’ve chosen Bournemouth! Why? I’m wondering that myself and should I come up with a worthwhile answer I’ll be sure to let you know. Enough about me, what about Bournemouth. This will be their 3rd straight season in the top flight finishing 16th in 2015/16 and 9th last season. They’ll certainly hope to continue on such a trajectory. To date they’ve added three players to their squad, spending a club record £20m on Nathan Ake who featured on loan for them last season. Sticking with former loan players they’ve also brought Jermain Defoe back to the club while they’ve also invested in goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. For now we’ll concentrate on the FPL prospects of Ake & Defoe.
Nathan Ake
Defender
FPL Price: £5.0m
Nathan Ake, remember him? Of course you do. How could we forget him after everyone got their knickers in a twist when Chelsea recalled him from his loan at Bournemouth last season. He was going to be a cheap route into the Chelsea defence, however he only featured twice towards the end of the season! Given some of the hysteria surrounding Ake (in FPL circles!) last season I was surprised to note that he only made 10 league appearances (two of which were cameos) for Bournemouth last season, he did however score three times during that period. He also helped Bournemouth pick up three clean sheets in his time on the south coast last season. Bournemouth’s defence certainly wasn’t their strong suit last year, only four teams conceded more goals! They will be hoping that the arrival of Ake and Asmir Begovic will help solidify a porous defence.
So what of his FPL prospects? Last season’s defensive stats are unlikely to inspire confidence and their opening fixtures are certainly a mixed bag. Relatively easy games against West Brom, Watford and Brighton are offset against more difficult games versus Arsenal, City and Everton. Perhaps the key to owning Ake is to identify someone who rotates well with him. The arrival of Ake could see club captain Simon Francis consigned to a place on the bench which would mean that Bournemouth’s likely back four are all priced at £5.0m. With new signing Jermain Defoe and last season’s hero Josh King vying for spot kick duties left back Charlie Daniels is unlikely to take any but he could yet prove a more enticing option than Ake.
Jermain Defoe
Forward
FPL Price: £8.0m
Modern day footballers are oft described as prima donnas and more often than not there is an element of justification to this but Jermain Defoe is undoubtedly one of the good guys. The time he spent with Bradley Lowery before the youngster sadly passed away means I and many others now hold Defoe in a much different light. But what about Defoe the footballer? He’s a goal scorer, nothing more nothing less. In total he has scored 198 goals in 535 league appearances. This will in fact be his second stint at Bournemouth having scored 18 times in 29 league appearances during a loan spell on the south coast back in 2000-01 when Bournemouth were in the 2nd Division which is now known as League One. It was so much easier when we had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th divisions! Many assumed his career was over when he moved to Toronto in 2014 but he was soon back in the Premier League with Sunderland where he scored 15 top flight goals in each of the last two seasons.
So what of his FPL prospects? I honestly can’t make up my mind! My initial reaction was that at £8.0m he’s too expensive to be played as your 3rd striker but having given it some thought I’m now not so sure. The general consensus when playing 3-4-3 is that our 3rd striker should be circa £6.0m – £7.0m (although I suspect that this consensus might very well change this season and the average 3rd striker could be priced at £10.m!) but these strikers more often than not are not overly reliable. Defoe on the other hand is reliable and could easily finish up with 15 goals again this season and if your 3rd striker is picking up 15 goals you’ll do ok. Should things go well for both Bournemouth and Defoe there’s possibly an argument to be made for making him your 2nd striker but this is not something worth considering at this early stage and with so many big hitters available up top this season it’s probably just a pipe dream. For now I certainly wouldn’t be concerned to see Defoe as a 3rd striker in a RMT!!

The Fixture Tracker…
It’s heavy up top ….
Not bad at all considering the sexy front 3!! I assume you’d be rotating Carroll & Walters? Will you be factoring Morata in?!
I forgot about Walters! #drools #puttingthebandbacktogether
Hey GP. Will Hegazi play? What about Lanzini/ aweu instead of Willian?
Thanks for the comments lads. Early bed last night.
Banjo – Either that or go four at the back some weeks.
Init – I reckon he’s great value and could also be on pens.
Dreamers – he’s played both preseason games so far. Its a bit risky I give you but better to be on and get off rather than wasting a transfer to get on was my thinking.
After a long and stressful day in hospital with a misdiagnosed heart attack, I’m happy to be home and well… well enough to still be going to see Defoe return to fratton tomorrow wish they’d hurry up and release Morata’s price.
Jeez banjo hope you’re ok buddy!
Shit man! Hope you are ok pal.
I am now, thanks guys. Was told earlier I’d had a heart attack, but after every test under the sun it turns out I hadn’t! Pretty scary day to be honest. Don’t think the Mrs was too impressed when I was lying in bed with wires hanging out of me and I pulled my phone out to check how Rory was getting on 😉
If she doesn’t know you by now……
I’d have changed my grav temporarily as you look too cheery all the time
Hey banjo. Glad it turned out ok. Stressful day though I’m sure.
Glad you’re ok mate! Nice to see you still have your priorities in order though!! Ha ha
You forget how much the grav’s actually influence your perception of someone! In my head Smash is butt ugly! And Raz surprised me last season when he exposed his true self!
That was my point exactly, they really shouldn’t but really do!
Ha ha I’ve never thought about it but you’re not wrong!! Maybe we should all do a Pancho ( where is Pancho!?) and grav ourselves!!
We should at least have one day where we expose ourselves (not in a jimmy saville kind of way).
I’ll do a Raz if and when the fabled 247 T-Shirt appears through my letterbox!
Hoping it comes within the next 3.5 weeks and I’ll get a shot on the vegas strip or taking a stroll through Beverly Hills… or maybe just at St James when we get walloped by a Kane hatrick and I question why I went for Kun/Jesus/Moratta/andy flipping Carroll instead!!
@Banjo :oogle:
@Rosco 1st batch since forever went out at 10am this morning I’m lead to believe. I assume / hope yours is in there.
Yes!!! I’ll do a collage!! Ps replied to your email too!
Hey up Banjo you ok mate hope your up & about now after your hospital trip
Hey Silvers, actually got a little spring in my step this morning, which was looking very unlikely at one point yesterday! Looking forward to seeing Defoe return to the park today… and the doc’s even said I had a healthy liver, so no need to avoid the boozer
Hey Banjo,
Sounds like you had a bit of a day of it yesterday pal! Glad all is well and was just a scare mate – you take it easy!!
Certainly did mate! It makes you take a step back and think about what’s important… such as wtf will Morata’s price be 😉
LOL, I can imagine – the whole episode was probably the thought of Chicharito joining West Ham
By God banjo. Working through the comments.
Glad to hear you’re ok in the end pal.
Anyone looking at Firmino upfront?
Way down on my forward wish list right now mate. That’s until he gets 2 and an assist in the first game……….
Ya ATM I’ve Lukaku, Kane, ageuro up front. It’s a lot of budget used up
Yeah I’m considering him Dreamers, that said I feel like I’m considering about 40 players at present!!
He’s in my team at present but I’ll be watching the 6.5s over the next 3 weeeks, anything to save a few quid!!
I’ve made like 12 changes alone this morning.
Ha ha snap!! I’ve just been switching players non stop! I’ll probably settle about 5 minutes before the deadline and then wish I’d done something different 5 mins later!!
Luckily the first few matches won’t define our season and I plan to WC in GW 4 or pos 8 so I’m trying not to stress too much… well maybe I’m stressing a little bit!!
He’s not really that close to my plans. For me I don’t think I wanna live without Kun & Lukaku, which only really leaves room for a budget third… although now I’m considering adding Morata to that line up!
Where is Kane in your mind Banjo?
Below those 3! Which may seem crazy. I’ve just got a feeling Spurs are gonna struggle this season. And the fact he’s highest price has helped tempt me away… a brace in week one and I’ll have him tho 😉
Righty-Hoot, some of you peeps posting here have not e-mailed me yet concerning the Regulars and/or Doubles leagues. Get yerselves in gear. The new H2H league entries close on the 31/7/17 at midnight (BST). Classic and Doubles leagues will still be ok after the date mentioned.
id like to do the doubles too, I’m short of an actual partner at present but ’tis but a technicality I’m sure!!
Hey Rosco – I’m up to do the doubles league if ur looking for a partner
Nice!! Cheers Dreamers, let’s do this!!
Righto Elle do you need an email to confirm?
Drop me a mail Rosco

Done and sent amigo!
There you team Drosco sorted.
Should i remove milner? And who should i buy to replace him(premium defender)
He certainly looks a high risk, especially given his premium price tag. Depends who else you’ve got I guess. I’d be looking for a mix of Man U, Chelsea & Spurs. Some good options at 5.5. If Azpi plays RWB he could be the best value at 6.5.
Here’s the team that probably has nothing to do with my final team…
What do you guys think about Chicarito? Unless he he will be overpriced that is…
Chicarito is certainly on my radar. His price will be interesting. My initial concern with this team is the lack of Man U & Chelsea.
Yes, aguero or silva might turn into lukaku or pogba….
Hey Allan,
Silva to Mikhi and that’s a nice team.
You don’t think he will spend a lot of time on the bench?
Agree with Cookie here. Mkhi looks a superb pick this season, especially if you have no Kaku cover.
Not sure on Miki. He’s looked good but is risky. There’s still a fair amount of competition there at United
Decent team there. I’m not a fan of the double West Brom and Bournemouth at the back though and Fer . Love the rest
What 5,5 midfielder do you is a better chioce?
Will see if i can upgrade to a 6,0….
Pretty tough in that range. Possibly Fraser or Walters and Herrera.
With Gray and Gundogan to monitor
