Double Game-Week 31 Comparison Sturridge vs Suarez

Double Game-Week 31 Comparison Suarez vs Sturridge

Sturridge vs Suarez

Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge is a debate that has taken a hold of the FPL world, in particular since Sturridge came back in GW21. The easiest thing in the world has been seeing the need to own both of them, the hardest thing has been choosing which one to captain. On a weekly basis we find ourselves rooting for our captain and rooting against the other half of S&S, despite them also being on our team. With the big Double Game-Week on the verge of commencing we find ourselves digging a bit deeper into the numbers and the possible consequences of choosing one over the other.

Sturridge vs Suarez

When Liverpool played Cardiff last time, Sturridge was out injured, so there is no real indication how Brendan Rodgers would choose to deploy his English International. While in the game versus Cardiff earlier in the season he played a 4-3-3 with Suarez as the centre forward, it does not mean he would use the same formation in spite of their 3-1 win. However if he did, one would assume that it would mean Sturridge as centre forward and Suarez playing on one of the wings. Rodgers has been notorious for deploying different formations and just because his diamond mid has worked the last two games, it does not mean he will repeat it. He had 3 wins on the run including the devastating 5-1 demolishing of Arsenal, before he changed to his current diamond mid (4-1-2-1-2). One can deduce that Rodgers treats games individually and adjusts his formation as he sees fit.

When Liverpool played Sunderland last time (GW6) they lined up in a 3-4-1-2 and S&S both had a massive day, it was the first game back for Suarez. So it would appear that a formation with 2 up top could work, but realize that Sunderland had just sacked Di Canio right before this game and Kevin Ball (caretaker) was making his debut in that game. So Rodgers probably had no real sense of what the Black Cats would try and do versus them. Now that Rodgers has seen Gus Poyet at work, I am sure he will deploy the tactics he deems fit and it could be anyone of his eight or nine different formations. But perhaps all an FPL manager should be concerned with is whether he will play 2 up top or Suarez on the wing.

When Suarez was out wide for Game-Weeks 23-27 (in purple) he averaged 5.4 PPG, Sturridge averaged 11.4 PPG. A difference of six points in a DGW would be huge, as it means there could possibly be a 12 point gap between captain choices. When both were played up top Suarez averaged 10.6 PPG and Sturridge averaged 6.4 PPG. A slightly smaller gap, nevertheless an 8 point difference over two games could prove very useful. Perhaps the capacity for large hauls more consistently appeals to you. Suarez with 8 double figure games compared to 4 for his strike partner (when playing together) is the clear winner there. Fact is just about every stat, points to Suarez over Sturridge. The more you look the harder the case becomes for Sturridge as captain. One could say that a higher percentage of his shots are in the box and on target, but I prefer the guy who takes more shots and that is without doubt the Uruguayan. Despite the stats and all the info that favours Suarez, in the end the winner of this game week captaincy battle could simply come down to how Rodgers decides to line them up. I guess it could be worse; we could all be putting ourselves at the mercy of David Moyes.

    All set

Just one thing doing my swede in…..’kin KOLAROV.

Brain ache as to what to do. Tempted to just sack city back coverage and go for a gteed starter like dummett. I want all 11 doubling up this week to the point I have even benched Haz.

Lads what’s the views on KOLAROV…….is he worth it

It depends if u think he will get more points in 100 min compared to someone who plays 180 this gameweek!?!? The general consensus seems to be he won’t start both games but could still possibly rack up a good score!!! smile

No. I had him for a few weeks and it was very frustrating. He has Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Everton away in the run in.

Drexl if this move is free them yeah maybe do it, if it involves a hit you may as well leave it and hope that he starts and gets the cleanie today.

      • Drexl says:

Yeah on my wild so no cost. I really think the guy is quality, and Clichy half the player. Normally would stick with the gamble but it’s not worth the worry I think. The Geordie is comin in and even if he don’t out score kol then at least I can sleep from now on!

Drexl – I’m on WC and grappling with the same question. To Kolarov or not to Kolarov?
Currently on the following starting XI:
          Adrian
          Coleman Baines Kolarov
          Gerrard Yaya Hazard Noble
          Suarez Sturridge Dzeko

Do I upgrade Kolarov to Zabaleta at the expense of a weaker 4th mid (eg Delph)?

    Morning guys!
I need to do something about Aguero, since he will be missing the whole GW. I already used my FT to do Lallana >> Nolan on Sunday night. So my team right now (non-DGW players in CAPS): Mannone Coleman Davies IVANOVIC Mata Nolan Sterling HAZARD Suarez Giroud Aguero. Bench: RUDDY SHAW MUTCH Gabbidon (out of favour). So I’m not willing to do more than one transfer (as anything I do now will be for a hit). Option 1: to not take a hit and simply bench Aguero for Shaw/Muth. Option 2: to take a hit and sell Gabbidon for Gibbs (this would get me arsenal defence) and play him instead of Aguero. Option 3: sell Aguero for Sturridge (I already have Suarez (c) and Sterling, and this would mean no Man City coverage for DGWs), Lukaku (this would get Everton coverage other than Coleman for upcoming DGWs, but still no man city cover), Dzeko (man city cover, but will lose place when Aguero returns next week). What do you think?

      Veer, get Sturridge. Now!

      • Veer says:

Thanks innit. I’m just doubtful of that, because as mentioned above I would have to buy back man city coverage, and that would be tripling up on Liverpool attack (or quadripiling up, since Suarez/Sturridge would be my captain!). Do you still think its worth it though?

Hi veer I hope I can help!!!get rid of Aguero one way or another!!!! He starts training next week so it will be a good few weeks till he is back to full fitness and the way he has been man managed that may not be this season at all!!! You prob should try and get some city cover but tbh u have left it a bit late!!!! Either aguero -dzeko,sturridge or lukaku are all good options ,For a wide spread of teams id get dzeko Don’t mess around bringing mediocre defenders for hits with aguero on bench!!!!! All the best mate smile
Also remember in a DGW like this plenty of teams will get 100+ points so a 4 point hit will be swallowed up!!! smile

Can I get some help please?
    This is my team

    Szczesney (k.davis)

    A.bruce smalling koscielny (azpilicueta ward)

    Hazard yaya mata nolan (noone)

    Lukaku sturridge(c) suarez
    0.1 in the bank
Bruce looks to be out of favour and I’m concerned with the injury to smalling as well.
Should I just sit tight or take a -4 hit to get a 5.1 defender in place of smalling. Who should I get?
    Any advice appreciated.

      Kop Warrior says:

KP – You could just replace Bruce with Davies and then play Azpi ahead of Smalling.

      • KP says:

Thanks for the reply. But if I replace bruce I’ll have only 3.9m to spend. Any nailed on dgw defender at that price.

        • Kop Warrior says:

Sorry mate, I only realised that after I’d posted it!!

How about someone like Demel in for Smalling? Alternatively James Chester is 3.8m and should start both games.

        • Mitro says:

          Drummett is 3.9m
