Fantasy Football The FF247 Community Team

What is it they say about a camel being a horse designed by committee? Well we wanted to see if we too could create a camel from well, a few donkeys actually, but let’s not be harsh and name names. You know who you are!

The inaugural season was always going to be one laced with teething problems but we are dealing with them as best we can and as diplomatically as we can. The Nobel Prize is in the bag we feel. We try to take an open view on all matters relating to our team and do what the people want or as close as we can get based on the voices we hear. Not in our heads, the other ones we mean.

The purpose of this article is to simply provide a refresh and a reminder as to our progress so far and encourage continued participation going forward. If you have participated in any of our voting thus far, then thank you. That’s what it’s all about.

The story so far
From selecting our budget distribution to a preferred formation to filling the positions player by player in GW1, it was something new, different and exciting. We enjoyed it and let’s be honest, it was something else to focus on after we had all torn up our one hundredth draft and rated our own two hundredth team! We were then set for Game-week 1 with this:

We were bang on the 34 average for that first week.

Just one man remains within our current squad. Guess who?! Riyad Mahrez has undoubtedly been our player of the season. There are a few names to cringe, squirm or wince at there, with hindsight of course.

The stats

We have 587 points in total.

Currently we reside in position 527,351 of 3,564,851 (within the top 15%)

Team Value: £99.9M. Money in the bank: £2.8M. Overall value: £102.7M

We have made 9 transfers so far and only twice have we voted to save a free transfer and have two to use the next week.

Our Wildcard was used in Game-week 5.

All other chips are still to be used.

Lowest overall rank was in Game-week 2 where we fell to 1,762,749.

Highest overall rank was in Game-week 10 of 214,372.

Game-week 8 was our highest individual point scoring week where we scored 95.

Game-week 1 was the lowest where we managed 34.

The biggest evolution so far is the streamlining of our voting system by using the independent ‘Strawpoll’ site and its ‘one-tick’ voting system which has proved very popular amongst voters and counters alike! This system has made the whole process of voting much more enjoyable and since its introduction, voting has increased immeasurably and as much as trebled some weeks. We pray this feature remains available to us otherwise Calvin Clyne is going to have to dedicate himself to setting up something similar for us having found Strawpoll for us originally.

Where we are now – GW13
This is how the squad looks ahead of GW13.

Clearly not in the prime of it’s health! But at the same time it may get by on crutches. Or a zimmer frame at least. Fear not though as said walking aids will be administered this week in the form of transfers and luckily we have two of those so it should be a fun week of voting on how best to get this sorry lot up and running again. Keep an eye and ear out for the polls in the comments below in the coming days and help nurse us back to health.

Remember, much like everything else for this team, when we use any of our chips is up to you. If you feel it is a good time to play one, let us know and if we think it merits a vote, we’ll do just that. They have to be used sometime!

We welcome any of your views. If you can see an improvement or a change, please bring it to us by commenting under the FF247 Community Team tab on site here or on twitter @ff247communityteam where all comments are replied to. Remember it is your team and your continued support which is keeping this thing going.

We’ll leave you to check yourselves how we compare to the FF247 site team so far…

Thanks, GP/NZ/ELLE

Back on the pitch, which is even more concerning if you ask me.

      Raziel says:

Why do the people in Wales boo Robben? Are they idiots? He’s the only good player on the pitch.

      • inittowinit says:

That’ll be why then Raz. Although I’m guessing there’s a fair probability of a past diving incident that I’m unaware of!

        • Raziel says:

Shrugs, we never played a significant game versus Wales. Robben did score the last two games versus Wales though.

        • Raziel says:

Now Robben scored 3 games in a row versus Wales. 😉 How we missed him during the qualifieres, him and Sneijder are the only reliable guys left. Sneijder had a very bad period a few years back, after 2010, but now he’s class again. Can’t believe Chelsea haven’t picked him up. In a good team still one of the best number 10’s in the world, I dare to say better than Coutinho still. :p

        • Raziel says:

The Coutinho thing is a joke, he’s younger and fresher and at his peak, so better. 😉

Robben scored his second goal versus Robben, that’s what you get for booing him bitches. What I like about him is that he doesn’t even make gestures to the crowd that have been booing him the entire match. It’s like he’s become humble on the pitch, he always used to be humble off of the pitch but never on it. I like this.

England getting schooled a bit in the art of passing and pressing but they’ve had a couple of half chances that they’ve wasted woefully. Kane and Barkley both with poor shots. Lallana has looked poor. Walker has looked promising. Jones has looked ugly.

Hey guys, how’s it going? How are your teams looking with injuries so far? I’ve got two yellow flags and a red, and that’s before anything has updated from today. Saw Raz mention something about Van Dijk earlier, hope he’s OK for next weekend!

Also wanted to Thank Gallant, Alex, and Elle for running the community team for us. Really digging the new format which makes it super simple to pop on and enter your vote. Hopefully we can get on a good run and climb up the rankings, with the amount of experience from everyone here we should be in the top 100k by season’s end I hope! smile

      Thank you Red.

      How are you mate?

The voting is evolving further still I think (hope). Might be rolling out a new one over the weekend so will keep you posted.

      Family well?

      • RedVT says:

Hey GP, we’re doing well. Thanks for asking. The little guy just turned 9 weeks old and is finally sleeping in his own room (thank God). Starting to get the hang of this parenthood thing I think and getting a bit more sleep now, which has been great. How are things with you and yours?

Trying to work on my FPL issues with this mess in Paris is kind of hard, really puts everything in perspective, ya know? Tragic stuff.

        • Red

Littlest man is up and down tonight with a temperature and his sleep is disturbed. It was due to that I turned the TV back on to see this dreadful stuff in France. I can’t and won’t ever be able to understand it.

Yeah FPL seems so small now doesn’t it?

        • RedVT says:

Aww, poor guy. Hope he kicks that fever and feels better soon. If you don’t mind me asking GP, where about in Scotland are you guys? I think I mentioned that my wife is Scottish and we’re going to plan a trip over there at some point when the boy is old enough to remember it. Probably catch a match and Anfield and then head north to Scotland. Just curious if there’s an area you’d recommend to visit.

        • Red

I live in Ayr. South west of the country and around 30 mins from Glasgow.

Edinburgh is my favourite city here and a day there is recommended. A beautiful city to walk in and if you can visit during the performing arts festival season then all the better. That’s August each year and the atmosphere is brilliant and there’s so much to see and there’s always excellent family entertainment.

For scenery then Loch Lomond takes some beating. That’s around twenty minutes north of Glasgow and you can do some lovely Loch cruises.

Aviemore is my favourite Highland destination. Totally relaxed place and geared towards winter sports.

          Hope this helps.

        • RedVT says:

Yes, that’s excellent GP- thank you! That’s exactly the kind of stuff we’d be looking for and thanks to FPL I’ll have some European friends to speak with here for advice before we go. And the wife tells me that fantasy sports are a waste of time, ha! Not such a waste now, is it?? laugh

Haha, thanks again. I hope your son feels better and you both get some sleep soon!

Coordinated terror attack in Paris at different locations, at least 3 attacks: concert hall, restaurant and football stadium. Really bad this.
