Which FPL Players Offer The Best Value?
Part of the fun of playing fantasy football is that you have to get creative with your selections. Just like real-world football managers, you’ve got a budget, and you need to stick to it. While we’ll all splash out on those big-money names, the truth is that it’s very often the value members of our squads that deliver the points needed to drive us up the fantasy football league table. You might have Salah in your team, but so does everyone else; the slightly cheaper players provide a chance to diversify your squad.
But which slightly cheaper players offer the best value? We’ll take a look at just a few players that might be worth adding to your team.
Harvey Barnes
People in the know have talked about Harvey Barnes’ potential for a while, but it seems like this season, we’re really beginning to see just what the young player can do. He’s scoring and assisting for fun in recent times and has arguably become even more important (temporarily at least) than Jamie Vardy, who has not been in vintage form for a while.
Indeed, such is Barnes’ run of form that even Vardy’s dip in goals has not prevented people from using free bet offers to back The Foxes to finish the season at the top of the table. Stranger things have happened (most notably…the last time Leicester won the league)! When a 23-year-old has that level of influence, you know they’re a talent. Happily, Barnes’ FPL price was set before he fully established himself, which means you can pick him up for only 7.0m.
Jack Grealish
Good players perform well in good teams. Great players perform well for average teams. So what can we say about Jack Grealish? He’s been outstanding for Aston Villa, who, thanks to him, are seriously threatening to finish in the Champions League positions.
You can get him in your team for 7.7million. That might not sound like a steal of a price but just think about this: virtually everything that Aston Villa do well (and that’s a lot these days) goes through Grealish, and he plays every minute. So far this season he has six goals and ten assists, and if he carries on like this, he’ll certainly end the season with many more than that.
Ilkay Gundogan
It is pretty remarkable how inexpensive it is to add Ilkay Gundogan to your fantasy team. Has there been a better value signing in the history of the Premier League? OK, sure, but Gundogan carries on in the rich vein of form that he’s currently enjoying, then he’ll be right up there with the best. Of course, it’s no surprise that Gundogan is playing well; he’s a top-class player, as he’s proved before. There was a reason why Pep Guardiola made him his first signing when he took over the Etihad.
Alas, things didn’t quite work out at the beginning, with injuries and the form of other players (notably De Bruyne) keeping him out of the side. It’s only now that we’re beginning to see the level of performances that everyone knew the German was capable of delivering. And boy, is he having an impact. With De Bruyne on the sidelines, Gundogan has more than stepped up. He’s become instrumental in City’s rise up the table, dominating matches and coming up with key goals just when City need them. And how much does it take to add him to your squad? Just 5.4m. That’s a price that reflects the old Gundogan, the one that sat on the bench. If he carries on playing as he is now, there’s no telling what he’ll be priced at next season.
