Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 30 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 29Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Captain Picks for GW30! We are entering the part of the season where the difference between the newbies and the experienced becomes obvious, so if you all, like me, are looking to salvage some pride and climb up the rankings, this is the time to do it. Part of doing that is selecting the right captain, and I must admit, it was a bit more difficult writing this article than usual as half the teams don’t play this GW. On reflection though, it may be a vastly reduced game-week but the captain pool doesn’t suffer as a result, as there are still a good many exceptional candidates this week, so let’s get right to it.

[divider_1px]

Sergio Aguero (away vs Norwich)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]The obvious choice for many would be Aguero for this round. He was the obvious choice last round as well, and rewarded his cappers with 2 goals, which could have been 3 had he converted the penalty. Now he’s coming up against a Norwich side that have tightened up a bit defensively lately, but still haven’t kept a clean sheet since GW20. While Aguero blanked in his 2 matches before last week’s brace against Aston Villa, he has scored 8 goals altogether in his last 7 matches. Clearly, he is on form and should haul a decent amount of points against relegation candidates Norwich, who sit last in the form table, having lost 5 of their last 6 matches. Expect Kun to be topping most Captain polls this week as many will just default to the tried and tested method when in doubt of #alwayscaptainkun.

[divider_1px]

Harry Kane (away vs Aston Villa)

[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]If Aguero was the standout captain option last week because he was up against Villa’s defence, then Kane has to be one of the standout options this weekend as it’s his turn to go up against the same. Spurs were on a 6 match winning streak before losing to West Ham and drawing to Arsenal, and will surely look to rebound with a win against Villa. Kane may have blanked in 3 of his last 5 matches, but that shouldn’t matter much against a defence that has managed to concede 15 goals in their last 4 matches. This should be a walkover for Spurs, just as it was for City, and Kane should be expected to be among the goals. Villa really are at a low, in every sense of the word and an early Spurs goal has every chance of opening the floodgates for another thrashing.

[divider_1px]

Gylfi Sigurdsson (away vs Bournemouth)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]If you’re looking for a differential this week, my recommendation would be Sigurdsson. The Icelander has scored more goals this season than any season before with 8 goals, and most importantly, 6 of those 8 goals have come in his last 10 matches. That being said, he comes up against a Bournemouth team that have conceded only 1 goal in their last 3 matches. Furthermore, they have won 3 of their last 6, putting them 7th in the form table. Still, Sigurdsson can put in a performance against anyone, as he has proven by scoring against Manchester United and Everton, and coming off the bench to assist against Arsenal. While he is not as recommendable as the other options in this article, he represents a differential to all of them.

[divider_1px]

Riyad Mahrez & Jamie Vardy (home vs Newcastle)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]This match really is a top vs bottom tie as 1st-placed Leicester welcome Newcastle, who sit 2nd last in the league. While Leicester have struggled a bit lately, drawing against West Bromwich and barely winning against Norwich & Watford, their struggles are nowhere near Newcastle’s struggles, who have lost 6 straight matches away. Regardless of their form, Leicester should be expected to win comfortably against this Newcastle side. Mahrez has registered 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 7 matches, while Vardy has 4 goals and 1 assist in just as many matches. Which one you want to give the armband to is much down to personal preference, but both players should be considered safe options for this round. Newcastle have conceded 12 goals in their last 5 matches, so both Mahrez and Vardy should be among the points this weekend.

That’s it for this week’s Captain Picks. Good luck!

    NIN says:

Just a little something i’ve noticed guys; those with ten starters already and bench full of future BGW players.. i don’t think i’ve seen anyone who’s happy to just ride with ten and keep that stacked bench for the doubles after this week. I mean, is ten really that bad that the likes of Payet / Ozil or whatever get sold? Maybe it’s another sign of the desperation to build points after the bad start we all had but in seasons gone bye there has always been a lot to say for keeping cool in these spots and rolling over a FT whilst keeping those DGW’ers. I remember fielding ten in a GW last season and it actually turned out to be one of the better weeks i had. That’s not to say that that will always be the case but we’ve all binked whopper scores before whilst having a few 0’s or 1’s in our team. Just a thought.

      Hmm, future DGW players, even.

This is a very good point. If only we knew exactly when these double game weeks are.

      Good point NiN.

I guess this means you’ll be fielding ten or less. 😛

      • NIN says:

I am. You already knew that though.

        • Raziel says:

You’re giving me too much credit mate. I have the memory of a goldfish. smile

Naaah, just innocent banter. I get your point though. The players you are short now, could later help you in the DGW;s. That’s why everything is about planning ahead really. Only thing I dare to touch is City players since I”m certain they will have a DGW. Anyway, it will probably be better to have Arsenal/Everton players (two or more DGW’s).

So people dropping all those players with blanks for a hit are really hurting themselves,

Willian again on an assist, wow. Willian/Costa will be a must for the DGW.

That is a fantastic point NIN. I totally agree that in desperation for points, quick irrational trigger pulling is being done. I have done it myself abit this season.

      db says:

I agree NIN, but on the other hand I remember from seasons past sacrificing in weeks leading up to a dgw just to load up on dgw players and half those players being rested for 1 of those games or scoring low and thinking to myself that had i not sacrificed I’d have scored more and the team would look better for going forward. I had planned at the start of the season to ignore dgws, but the chips have really thrown a spanner in the works especially with triple cptn! I have a really bad feeling that whichever dgw player ends up with my triple cptn armband will return 3 points!!!

      • db

You make a fantastic point here mate which is often missed by most blinded by the DGW. That the better players in the DGW teams who most will aim for will inevitably be subbed off early or rested at some point across these 180 minutes.

Having a DGW is a consequence usually of being involved in other competitions so the players at this point of the season will be running on low or empty unless of course the team happens to be on a blank because of their opponent’s other involvements.

So yeah I agree and past experience has told me to tread very carefully when selecting DGW players.

I luckily have eleven but if it were for the greater good I would be happy to roll with 10.

Ok guys not a bad start for this week. I’ve had to make 1 transfer this week so far to field a starting 11 so it hasn’t cost me nothing. But now Arsenal have gone through cup I’m back down to 10 players. I wasn’t going to do nothing about it but again as we’re all talking about do we make adjustments or just leave things how they are? Your thoughts please thanks

      MattX says:

I’d leave it mate you look in good nick in all other areas and if the front 3 all fire you won’t even notice you only had 10 men

      • jumpers4goalposts says:

Cheers Matt you’ve made me feel a lot better about it. I got in arnie couple of weeks ago for stokes 2 home games but really i need a good suggestion for a 4th mid after this gameweek. I’ve got 0.9 in bank and arnie is 6.4.

      • jumpers4goalposts says:

Yer I can do that. But not sure if I want him. Good player but Swansea ain’t exactly lighting it up this season.

        • MattX says:

You may be right but Swansea have some nice fixtures coming up including Villa and Siggy has gotten 6 goals in his last few games so could be worth it for an injured player don’t really know who else. Maybe Alli but I have a feeling he’s going to be rested soon. Supposedly he has ankle and knee injuries that are being “managed”.

      • jumpers4goalposts says:

Yer good point Matt. So would you say it’s worth getting him in this gameweek and costing me -4 or maybe do it next week. Sorry that’s my last question and I’ll leave you be mate. Just for some reason very indecisive this year

        • MattX says:

Your alright mate this season is so crazy we all need help. I wouldn’t take a hit for it because you already have Arnie who plays Southampton who have just drawn to Sunderland (barely) and lost Fonte to suspension so Stoke could have a good chance of getting something.

      • jumpers4goalposts says:

Yer thanks mate really appreciate your help. If I can help you by all means let me know.

    Qwkliduzzit says:

    Hi All
Been a while since I’ve messaged, but have been reading the weekly updates avidly. I started a restricted selections league, where teams had to be based on some sort of handicap. My team, for example, only has players with zero minutes in the PL last season. Others have excluded players from last season’s top four teams (Elleffcee) or include players with surnames A to C (Calvin Clyne), or Spanish players only. You get the picture. It’s been a moderate success. Some managers entered teams with no obvious selection ‘restrictions’; others have inevitably decided to concentrate on their main teams (if they have one), or lost interest through the usual process of attrition. A few of us seem still to be active on a week-to-week basis, though…May Be we’ll come back stronger next season…

Anyway, here’s an invitation to think outside the box for a while. My team is seriously off the radar in relation to the usual templates. See what you think, and please advise me which transfer(s) to make (if any):

    Ruddy (Gomes)
Cook, Otamendi, Van Dyke, Fuchs (Funes Mori)
Alli, Andre Ayew, Imbula (Payet, Antonio)
    Okazaki, Paloschi, Iheanacho

You could say I’ve got some major differentials there…Question is whether any of this will come off…
1FT, ÂŖ17.2M ITB. WC, TC and BB all available. Current points 1444, rank 1.1m

    Cheers!

      Qwk

Those are some tight and wacky restrictions smile

How about Afobe (Striker) for Bournemouth?

      • Qwkliduzzit says:

Thanks, GP. I’d thought about Afobe too – certainly got better recent form than any of my current strikers. However, Bournemouth’s fixtures are scary: both Manchester teams, both Merseyside, Chelsea and Spurs. Only one match in the nine (Villa) would count as definitely winnable and the remaining two (Swans and WBA) could go either way. Still, it’s about whether Afobe can score rather than whether or not B’mouth win…You’ve given me something to chew on there…

Thanks all, glad you enjoyed the article.

I’m tempted to go with a Spurs player myself but I just don’t see myself not capping Aguero this round, had he met a strong team then maybe but not against Norwich!
