Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
It’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that all important armband for game-week 22…[clear]
Sergio Aguero – Crystal Palace (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Allow me to get the formalities of this article out of the way. Sergio Kun Aguero plays at home this weekend. For many FPL managers that’s all they need to know. I’m sure he’ll be an overwhelmingly popular pick… so let’s take a look at why it might *not* be a good idea to trust him with the armband.
Since his first big injury of the season, he’s featured (and started) in 6 matches, playing 428 minutes in all. During those minutes he’s managed to score 2 goals. No assists to his name. City failed to score at home against Everton earlier this week and Palace can actually be quite a tough team to break down. Perhaps a punt on Kolarov, who was rested against Everton, would be a better shout? Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last 4 Premier League matches.
We all know that Aguero’s capable of insane things. City are due a rout and, when playing at the Etihad, anything is possible… even 5 goals in 20 minutes. An early penalty being awarded to the home side – a tap-in from De Bruyne’s pinpoint cross into the 6 yard box – that’s all it could take for absolute carnage to ensue. Look beyond him at your peril.

Dimitri Payet – Newcastle (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Don’t you wish that you’d owned this guy last game-week? If you did… don’t you wish that you’d captained him? If you did.. please come and write the next article for us!
The guy is class. What a free-kick against Bournemouth that was. Brilliant nutmeg and run at goal for the assist as well. He plays against a Newcastle side that, although admittedly growing in confidence, haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 7 matches in all competitions. Dmitri bagged a brace in the reverse fixture this season and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him do it again on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Kane – Sunderland (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Just when the wind seemed to be blowing again, the HurriKane has faltered, once again entering a mini drought in front of goal; just a solitary assist in the last 3 game-weeks. However, before that, he scored 3 goals in 2 games. That included a brace against Norwich at home. He’s also scored twice against West Ham at White Hart Lane and hit home a hat-trick against Bournemouth earlier on in the season.
Therefore, it is clear Kane likes a relatively ‘easy fixture’ to harvest his FPL points, which Sunderland at home does indeed appear to be. The Black Cats haven’t been pushovers lately, but when you consider that Harry has taken the joint-most shots in the Premier League so far this season (tied with Coutinho) and has the highest shot accuracy out of anyone in the top 10 on that list, backing him with the armband this weekend sounds very tempting indeed. Stats and logic often (but not in this crazy season!) prevail.

Riyad Mahrez – Aston Villa (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Mahrez is actually quite a weird name isn’t it? We’ve become so accustomed to seeing it in all of our teams, but the more I think about it, the stranger it sounds. Riyad Mahrez. I take that back… it’s actually just cool. Almost villain-like… mwuahahaha.
Anyway, what a player, who time and time again has produced goals and assists to help lift his team to success. Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture, he didn’t score in the 3-2 thriller, but conducted the game magnificently, contributing 2 assists in one of many man-of-the match performances that he’s produced in recent months.
Villa finally pieced a win together last game-week, but it was against a Crystal Palace side who are currently woeful in front of goal, which still doesn’t explain what Hennessey was thinking as that ball came towards him. The question is: can Mahrez end his 4 match drought? Can he strike back with another hat-trick away from home? Can he be the Villans’ villain? I really don’t see why not. Leicester are back to winning ways.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Watford (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Here’s one we haven’t heard much about for a while! This is my final pick and I was getting a bit bored of picking the usual suspects… then I noticed that Watford have conceded 2 goals in each of their last 4 Premier League matches. So this is one for the brave or the stupid, but let’s face it, this season couldn’t really get any stranger.
Just cast your mind back to the first 10 gameweeks of last season: no serious FPL manager would’ve dreamt of excluding Siggy from their teams. Now, over a year on, things have changed. Leicester are a good team these days. Matic isn’t the best CDM in the world anymore. FF247 t-shirts have spread across the land. However, good-old Gylfi has grabbed a goal in his last two matches and is on penalty duty too, so perhaps this is the start of something good once again for the classy Swansea midfielder.

Just had a bit of a think and, although Bertrand to Fuchs looks like a good transfer, I do have three very good fixtures (four including Bertrand..) for my defence this weekend so it seems a bit pointless this weekend, maybe do it next GW as Southampton face Arsenal and United in the two after West Brom. Therefore I was thinking that my absolute priority is Payet, hey if United can score three goals against Newcastle I dread to think how many points Payet will score!
Dilemma: with 1FT and £1.3m in the bank my options for bringing him in are essentially KDB, Mahrez or Ozil as I annoyingly cannot afford to swap him with Alli (without a hit).
KDB has blanked in the last three, but does have some great fixtures. But two 16 point returns in eight games among 2s and 3s is not a great return for an £11m player. Can’t say I’ve seen many minutes from their games, has Silva had a negative effect on his points potential?
Ozil has fairly tricky fixtures and got very little of the ball last night but reluctant to drop someone with such an ability for assists as he does.
Mahrez – not getting the points. Bought before GW1 though so to ship him and then watch him start firing again would be a really error.
Another possible option would be, if my maths serves me well, to do Bellerin and Alli to Fuchs and Payet. Could be a masterstroke but wary about ditching an Arsenal defender, especially one with a real willingness to run forward.
To summarise: HELP 😉
Thanks in advance haha
Downgrade DDG and upgrade Ali for a -4 given that you have a lot invested in your keepers at the minute?
Rosco, Butland’s next four fixtures are not good CS wise (maybe bar Leicester on their current run!) so don’t really want to ditch my playing keeper.
Yeah you’re right ( and I actually gave Butland!!)
AT
A straight swap from KDB to Payet will have it’s worries in losing KDB but I honestly believe they are as good as each other and you already have Aguero for City so I would be inclined to do that one.
Very tempted to GP.
That would also allow me the flexibility to bring in Lukaku for Ighalo or Lukaku for Kane and then Alli back to KDB.
Any changes in team line up?
Rudd
Bellerin Dier Zouma
KDB Mahrez Ozil Payet (c) Alli
Aguero Ighalo
bench- Butland Lukaku Janmaat Ward
Not at this stage nishant.
Lukaku is the natural worry so it’s a personal choice between him and your ‘weakest’ midfielder.
Wouldn’t blame you going like that though. I probably would do the same.
Good evening all. Awful week of 24 points. I don’t need drastic surgery to my team but I do need Payet. I will need a 4 pt hit but I ‘m fine with that so my team is:
Butland/Hennesey
Bellerin/Simpson/Dawson/Martin/Dann
Ozil/KDB/MahrezAli/Barkley
Aguero/Kane/Lukaku. 0.3 ITB
My options: Barkley and Dann out with Payet and Dier in leaves 0.0. Barkley and Bellrerin out for Payet and Zouma leaves 0.0. Alternatively add a Leicester defender for Either of the transfers Any thoughts
Tomo
I like the sound of the first one with getting Dier in alongside Payet.
Cheers GP . I,m thinking of getting Ward in a few weeks time for palace cover. He looks a bargain at 4.5
Tomo – get Payet in ASAP!!
Afternoon all,
Any ideas on what I should do with this lot?
I have 1FT & 0.1 ITB
Hi Mitro
That’s pretty much what I would like for this week. I’d save your transfer if I was you. So what do you think I should do with my team and suggestions above?
Hi Mitro, how goes it mate?
Depends. Do you mind benching a decent player each week or are you ready to downgrade and reinvest to strengthen?
GP – I’m good mate, had another cappo fail! Just doesn’t seem to be going right for me at the minute! How are you?
I’m happy to have a selection headache for a few more weeks, once Sanchez is back and firing I will be downgrading either Kane or lukaku to ighalo and then getting rid of either Alli or Mahrez for the little man!
Was tempted to bring in Sagna for Zouma? or do lukaku for ighalo?
Mitro,
I’m not getting the capo right either. Such a pain in the @rse. Fine apart from that mate.
If you ain’t downgrading just now then I would leave the transfer and roll it over and leave the line-up as is. Boring I know . . .
Hey gang – I’ll ask a similar questions to everyone else this week. Deciding between :
1- Lukaku > Kane (for Sund at home)
2- Arnie > Alli
Option 1 means I keep Arnie and bench him. Option 2 means a benching headache. If #2, who should I bench?
Cech
Toby, Morgan, Cresswell
Mahrez, KDB, Ozil, Payet,
Lukaku, Vardy, Ighalo
(Butland, Arnie, Nyom, Dawson)
Hey Colriles,
Would you look to keep Kane for more than one week or would you switch right back?
Yeah that’s tricky GP. Lukaku home to Swans the next week looks tasty. So prob straight back?
Option 1 then I think. Arnie benched against Arsenal should be minimal damage.
I’d go option 1 mate.
Opt 1 mate
Evening folks. Do I do anything with this team? Can’t see what to do.
Not really Matt unless you too have a burning desire to buy Payet at all costs.
Looks well set to me Matt! Unless you fancy Payet over KDB long term…. 😉
Wow…great minds… the chicken beat me to it.
I would say bring in Payet but i wouldn’t feel comfortable telling you to get rid of any of your midfielders except for stanislas
Cheers Everyone, was planning on getting Payet but can’t see who to sell in midfield and the only other way to get Payet for Stan is by selling one of my front 3 and I can’t do that just yet.
