Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

Captain picks tipsIt’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that all important armband for game-week 22…[clear]

Sergio Aguero – Crystal Palace (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Allow me to get the formalities of this article out of the way. Sergio Kun Aguero plays at home this weekend. For many FPL managers that’s all they need to know. I’m sure he’ll be an overwhelmingly popular pick… so let’s take a look at why it might *not* be a good idea to trust him with the armband.

Since his first big injury of the season, he’s featured (and started) in 6 matches, playing 428 minutes in all. During those minutes he’s managed to score 2 goals. No assists to his name. City failed to score at home against Everton earlier this week and Palace can actually be quite a tough team to break down. Perhaps a punt on Kolarov, who was rested against Everton, would be a better shout? Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last 4 Premier League matches.

We all know that Aguero’s capable of insane things. City are due a rout and, when playing at the Etihad, anything is possible… even 5 goals in 20 minutes. An early penalty being awarded to the home side – a tap-in from De Bruyne’s pinpoint cross into the 6 yard box – that’s all it could take for absolute carnage to ensue. Look beyond him at your peril.

Dimitri Payet – Newcastle (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Don’t you wish that you’d owned this guy last game-week? If you did… don’t you wish that you’d captained him? If you did.. please come and write the next article for us!

The guy is class. What a free-kick against Bournemouth that was. Brilliant nutmeg and run at goal for the assist as well. He plays against a Newcastle side that, although admittedly growing in confidence, haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 7 matches in all competitions. Dmitri bagged a brace in the reverse fixture this season and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him do it again on Saturday afternoon.

Explosiveness: 7

Harry Kane – Sunderland (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Just when the wind seemed to be blowing again, the HurriKane has faltered, once again entering a mini drought in front of goal; just a solitary assist in the last 3 game-weeks. However, before that, he scored 3 goals in 2 games. That included a brace against Norwich at home. He’s also scored twice against West Ham at White Hart Lane and hit home a hat-trick against Bournemouth earlier on in the season.
Therefore, it is clear Kane likes a relatively ‘easy fixture’ to harvest his FPL points, which Sunderland at home does indeed appear to be. The Black Cats haven’t been pushovers lately, but when you consider that Harry has taken the joint-most shots in the Premier League so far this season (tied with Coutinho) and has the highest shot accuracy out of anyone in the top 10 on that list, backing him with the armband this weekend sounds very tempting indeed. Stats and logic often (but not in this crazy season!) prevail.

Riyad Mahrez – Aston Villa (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Mahrez is actually quite a weird name isn’t it? We’ve become so accustomed to seeing it in all of our teams, but the more I think about it, the stranger it sounds. Riyad Mahrez. I take that back… it’s actually just cool. Almost villain-like… mwuahahaha.

Anyway, what a player, who time and time again has produced goals and assists to help lift his team to success. Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture, he didn’t score in the 3-2 thriller, but conducted the game magnificently, contributing 2 assists in one of many man-of-the match performances that he’s produced in recent months.

Villa finally pieced a win together last game-week, but it was against a Crystal Palace side who are currently woeful in front of goal, which still doesn’t explain what Hennessey was thinking as that ball came towards him. The question is: can Mahrez end his 4 match drought? Can he strike back with another hat-trick away from home? Can he be the Villans’ villain? I really don’t see why not. Leicester are back to winning ways.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Watford (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Here’s one we haven’t heard much about for a while! This is my final pick and I was getting a bit bored of picking the usual suspects… then I noticed that Watford have conceded 2 goals in each of their last 4 Premier League matches. So this is one for the brave or the stupid, but let’s face it, this season couldn’t really get any stranger.

Just cast your mind back to the first 10 gameweeks of last season: no serious FPL manager would’ve dreamt of excluding Siggy from their teams. Now, over a year on, things have changed. Leicester are a good team these days. Matic isn’t the best CDM in the world anymore. FF247 t-shirts have spread across the land. However, good-old Gylfi has grabbed a goal in his last two matches and is on penalty duty too, so perhaps this is the start of something good once again for the classy Swansea midfielder.

Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 5

I hope you all have a great weekend! Good luck with whoever you choose.

alright guys really need some help! on a wildcard at the moment and my team looks like this.

    Butland, Hennessey.

    Nyom, Dawson, Simpson, Walker, Moreno.

    Mahrez, KDB, Ozil, Payet, Stanislas.

Kane, Kun, Lukaku. 1.5 in the bank.

What changes would you lads make to improve this wildcard squad?

      NIN says:

Hi Adam. Cant really complain with any of those choices, other than maybe Moreno. Cresswell in for him would be a nice upgrade i think.

    • 31.2
      inittowinit says:

Hi adam, a warm welcome to the site, well the comments anyway! I would concur with NIN on Moreno. The rest looks good to go really. It’s a tad templatish though and that would be my only real observation but that may suit you depending on your goal or any ML situation. If you are chasing then I’d be looking at a punt or two at least. Maybe Giroud to mix the forwards up and then perhaps replace Ozil or KdB too but as I say that depends.

      • adam28193 says:

I am actually 36 behind my main rival who has a attacking line up of payet, mahrez, ozil, kdb, alli, ighalo, kane and costa. so I was thinking would lukaku and kun be enough to overturn that deficit or would you punt on someone? and who would you punt on?

        • inittowinit says:

36 is nothing mate. They may be enough for now. Let’s face it, an early goal or 2 in the City game, as James points out in the article, and Kun could well do that 36 on his own if you cap him. I clawed back over 80 from about this stage last season to win and I can’t say I went mad on differentials (apart from a legendary Walters punt!) As you say you have a couple there. How are you fixed on the chips in relation to him / her?

        • NIN says:

That’s not the first time Johnny-boy came through for you! Epic punt.

        • adam28193 says:

I have bench boost and triple cap and he has wasted them all; which for a good fpl player that he is I was very surprised at.

        • inittowinit says:

Quids in then Adam, they’ll be worth a fair few once the DGW’s come as you know. On which point, and I’m sure you’ve considered it, what shape is your current team in? In relation to the WC one. Is the WC a necessity, basically. If you feel it is then fair enough but just thinking if you could somehow save it it’d game, set and match played the week prior to a DGW with that chip advantage you have?

        • adam28193 says:

you can’t cancel it though can you?

        • adam28193 says:

the other question I had was who is your cappo this week?

        • inittowinit says:

No you can’t mate! Sorry, wasn’t sure if you’d activated or you were just at the playing with it stage.

I’ll probably go Kun. Site team has done the same and for once I agree! Kane is my other consideration. Guessing you think your rival may go Kane?

        • adam28193 says:

I’m guessing he will yeah! unless he goes payet, would you stick to your guns and cap kun or cover the kane cap?

        • inittowinit says:

If I knew for sure they didn’t have Kun and we’re obviously going for one and the others, and I was chasing, then I’d land it all on Kun. You’re covering half of any gain they may make anyway whereas they are covering zero of yours. And that’s not a ‘punty’ answer, I’ve played that out many a time. It’s a fairly comfortable scenario when you think about it.

    Raziel says:

When Sanchez returns, who would you let go first? KDB or Ozil?

    • 33.1
      NIN says:

Depends on form. As it stands, probably Ozil if Sanchez looked himself again.

      • Raziel says:

Pellegrini didn’t play KDB and Silva, subbed one for the other. KdB did look poor in the last game, his delivery was shite. Also, I already have Kun. So, in my mind leaning towards KdB. Not sure though.

        • Raziel says:

Together I mean. On that note, Ozil now has been quiet for a few games. KDB can explode. Everything depends I guess. Why Navas is still a starter is beyond me. Rather have Kolarov on the flanks as a winger than him.

        • NIN says:

He wouldn’t be the first to feel the burn of a December / January schedule in England. It will be interesting to see how he recovers.

        • Raziel says:

By the way NiN. How is your team looking now. You wildcarded right? Didn’t you go with Payet and I think Costa in the end?

        • NIN says:

Contemplating Mahrez in for Ozil but might just leave it be.

        • Raziel says:

Aaah, I see you made the same daring move as Cookie. I think Mahrez is a must, wouldn’t take him out myself. Mainly because I bought him for cheap and he’s still awesome and on penalties. Also think he’s still the highest scoring mid? Or player in general? Damn at Payets stats though, if dude played the same amount of minutes he’d probably be on top with him.

        • NIN says:

Yeah, Payet’s output is pretty healthy. He’d be well up there with Mahrez if he was fit. Might get the latter in for Bugs, see what pressers say, if there are any.

        • Raziel says:

You have less of an benching issue than I do, which is good. I think I would do Costa to Lukaku when Lukaku’s returns are better again, which is after this GW. Sanchez is returning, so it will free up cash for Yaya to Sanchez (if you want). Ack, but there are just too many players. Anyway, my point. Stanislas as fifth md is better than my Alli. sad

        • NIN says:

Yeah, I had a draft or two with him as a fifth but decided against it. He’s worthy of a first team spot for the next while at least. Lukaku will be considered again, see how Costa goes first.

  4. 34
    AT says:

Reckon Alli and Payet will both go up tonight? Feel like I need to sleep on it haha.

Both expected to go up on FFF and Fplstatistics..

    • 34.1
      NIN says:

Definitely mate, they’re both way over the mark and there’s a bit to go yet. When price changes are a worry, on FFF at least, i get nervous around the + / – 92% mark. Changes happen often in that last 10% but those way over are usually bankers.

    • 34.2
      Raziel says:

If finance isn’t a problem, sleep on it for sure. I’ll be losing value on Kolarov. Want to let go him of him, not sure when though. Grrrrrrrrrr, maybe I need to do it tonight. Was thinking of holding my ft this GW and use two for the next GW! Also considering AOA chip, with the awesome attack I have. Alli, Vardy or whomever on the bench just doesn’t feel right. smile

    db says:

Evening folks, is anyone up at this hour?
What would you do with this lot?
    I’m thinking Berkeley to Payet?

    • 35.1
      jamesimmo says:

That looks like a very solid move to me. I’d look to start downgrading parts of your defence (Butland, van Dijk / Dann / Smalling) as you have too much sat on the bench each week – as is the case with Arnie – it’s all cash that you may well need for Aguero / Sanchez soon.

      • db says:

Yeh have been thinking along the same Lines. I’d like to keep Smalling and find someone who rotates well as Man u have a bit of a mixed bag now, Dann definately needs downgrading and the rest as you mention in preparation for kun and Sanchez, I’m kind of hoping KDB blanks a couple more game weeks as that will make both the decision and funds easy!

    jamesimmo says:

Thanks for all of your kind comments guys! Glad you enjoyed it.

It’s nice knowing that GW22 kicks off tomorrow… making for a speedy recovery time hopefully!

    • 36.1
      NIN says:

Or a quick-fire, brutal nail in the coffin 😉

How goes it mate, it’s been a while.

      • jamesimmo says:

Let’s hope for one or the other to make it interesting… 😉

It has! Things are pretty good with me thanks, just arrived back at my uni accomodation today, which is great but for the five rock-solid exams that are coming up! It’ll be done and dusted by the month’s end thankfully.

How about yourself mate? Hope work is treating you better than FPL and United are!

        • NIN says:

No messing about there eh? Straight back in at the deep end! Good stuff.

Work has been grand, really busy which is a good thing. Whatever about FPL, don’t mention United. A week-on-week catastrophe :noshake:

        • jamesimmo says:

Haha yep! No rest for our poor souls… it’s all great fun though.

Glad to hear it, ah man I know eh, personally I’m still hurting from Liverpool’s late goal in last night’s thriller. They certainly deserved a point in fairness but it still feels rough. As for Dummett, well, he has Smalling and some sort of miracle to thank! Ridiculous pair of matches.

        • NIN says:

Indeed, two crazy games. Could have gone either way really. Any transfers planned for this GW? I’m mulling Ozil –> Mahrez for Villa. Could be a messy one that!

        • jamesimmo says:

That’s not a bad call. We do struggle away to Stoke and Ozil’s gone quiet lately. Hence why he didn’t get a shout for the cappo this week aha! Mahrez has also been dormant but he’s more likely to suddenly reproduce his old form I feel. Again… could go either way though.

I had to sell Guzan. My back-up keeper is McCarthy. Villa finally keeping a clean sheet was a kick in the teeth! But yeah – don’t ask why I had Guzan ahaha – he’s gone for Elliott now… #likeforlikeshit laugh

        • Raziel says:

Villa kept a cs but Guzan wasn’t in goal. So how is that a kick in the teeth. You dodged a bullet right there. Didn’t Elliott gather you a stunning 2 or 3 points? Guzan would’ve been zero. Anyway, back to sleep. Goodnight. 😛

        • jamesimmo says:

Raz, we’re talking about GW22 transfers, it’s a move I made tonight. Rest up! smile

        • NIN says:

Yeah I might go for it. More chance of Mahrez scoring big I think.

Yip, that’s a fairly poo FT alright laugh

        • NIN says:

Yeah I might go for it. More chance of Mahrez scoring big I think.

Yip, that’s a fairly poo FT alright laugh
