With cup matches also playing a part with regard to suspensions, holding that transfer until later in the week can sometimes pay dividends. In brief, any player who gets a red card during a game will receive a suspension, normally between 1 and 3 games, depending on what has done, however players also receive suspensions for yellow cards. We aim to update this on a weekly basis to show you in simple terms those who are suspended this week and in upcoming weeks and those that are at risk of suspension having accumulated 9 yellow cards already. Should they get the 10th then they will incur a two game suspension.
Welcome to GW17, the last game-week before Christmas and looking at the fixtures, it’s potentially another high scoring week on offer. We start off at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime as Luis Suarez will be looking to continue his high-scoring returns, with Cardiff as his next victims – and we end with a cracker of a London derby as Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates on Monday night. No fewer than six players have managed to clock up a suspension for the coming game-week, none more notable than Kevin Nolan, who received a straight red card for a challenge on Jordan Henderson. We rather suspect he may have fancied Christmas off having viewed how rash and unnecessary it was! However, he may not have factored in the Capital One cup match in mid-week next week as he will now only miss 2 FPL games as a result. Plenty of players are falling foul of the ‘totting up’ rule as 5 yellow cards at this stage of the season means an automatic 1 match suspension. In these situations it may just best to bench your player for a week, if you have substitutes who can cover for you.
Saturdays fixtures saw two straight red cards brandished in GW12. Firstly, after almost two years out with injury, Wes Brown’s return to action was short lived, as after just 35 mins of his second start of the season, he was dismissed for – well, for a perfectly good challenge! Fortunately for Wes an Independent Regulatory Commission (yeah right!) have overturned the red card, and no suspension will need to be served. N.B. Although the red card has been rescinded, owners of Wes will not get the -3 points back.
