Fantasy Football Tips

The Tips article, which will be released on Thursdays, is where we take a look at which players should be considered for your team, both on a short-term and longer-term basis. While the more obvious football tips selections will, naturally, be included, we will also endeavour to find those hidden bargains and differentials that could set you apart from your rivals and help your performance in your mini-leagues.

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 3

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 3 Welcome to Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 3. Back in 1998, The Propellerheads teamed up with Shirley Bassey for a song called ‘History Repeating’. Why am I dropping this random fact into my first article of the season, I hear you ask… Well, game-weeks one and two of the new FPL campaign have well and truly got the tune in my head with how they have shown some things just never change! Harry Kane is, once again, slow off the mark, leaving managers scratching their heads on whether they should get rid of him, Arsenal are having a mixed time of it with no clean sheet yet meaning a proportion of their fans are going into meltdown on Twitter and we’re starting to see a couple of surprise packages in teams that many had written off before a ball had even be...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2 Welcome to Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 2. Hello and welcome to the Tips article for Gameweek Two and my maiden one for the FPL 2017/18 season. Now hopefully with everyone present and correct after Gameweek 1 and no fallers, let’s look to the second obstacle in this thirty eight fence steeplechase. ‘On we go’. That’s both an instruction and a mantra for this love-to-hate game of ours. Itchy trigger fingers need to be soothed in balm, not scratched. Our mile-a-minute FPL minds need rest and contemplation and not further torture. And I would like to win the lottery and retire from pen-pushing. Seeing as none of these things are going to happen let’s get begin with a question. Who needs new players? Wow . . . that many? Anyway, I was quite fortunate enough t...[Read More]

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 1

Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 1 Welcome to Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 1. Here we are yet again standing on the precipice of another rollercoaster of a season. Every year I moan my way through the season but deep down I must enjoy FPL as this will be my 10th season. Having enjoyed the summer months with some fantasy cricket & cycling I’m going to start the season in a positive mood but I’m afraid I can’t guarantee how long this will last. Liverpool selling Coutinho could easily send me spiralling into the depths of despair. A Dejan Lovren mistake on Saturday could do likewise…I’m f**cked. I’d best move on from Liverpool before my mood starts to ebb! And what of FPL? You can’t win or lose FPL in GW1 but if you get off to a bad start you can make things much more difficult for yourse...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League 2017/18 Defensive Rotation Potential

Fantasy Premier League 2017/18 Defensive Rotation Potential Welcome to Fantasy Premier League 2017/18 Defensive Rotation Potential. Choose 1 Goalkeeper and 3 defenders and then stick with them through thick and thin or spread it around and look for rotations that offer to provide better returns? It’s a question that I have previously pondered and tried both ways without any big conclusions. Until I actually had another sit down and thrashed out where clean sheets actually come from… We do know that more clean sheets happen at home and are more likely against lower clubs. So on the surface home/away & Fixture difficulty seem to offer a good path for rotation, but does it actually hold true? Lets look at the actual math from last season when fully broken down. FPL generally s...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 37

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 37 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 37. How has gameweek 36 been for you, then? Another green arrow to raise your hopes of an excellent finish at the end of the season, or perhaps a red one that has left you scratching your head at where it all went so wrong? Well, a few of the season’s favourites like Alli, Eriksen, Hazard, Kane, Firmino and Lukaku did indeed draw a blank (OK, more than just a few!), whilst other memorable players of 2016-17 like Defoe, Alonso and Costa rewarded managers. Even De Bruyne – who has been off the radar a good chunk of the season – surprised many by hauling in the points. Of course Josh King had to get in on the action too. Well, it’s officially the middle of this mini double gameweek season now, ...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 36

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 36 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 36. It is officially silly season. Alvaro Negredo had a double game-week in which he never scored (despite attracting many a Captain Armband), subsequently he is therefore sold off in his thousands and then scores and assists against Manchester City the very next time out. Huh? Christian Benteke, who many others captained on the double game-week, does so well against Liverpool to justify the pick and then blanks at home to Burnley who themselves prior to the weekend couldn’t win an argument away from home, nail a clean sheet and a 2-0 win. Double Huh? Antonio Valencia owners relished the clean sheet he picked up in the Manchester derby but it is sandwiched by two non-appearances due to “resting”. Oh han...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 34

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 34 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 34. Init messaged me at the weekend to double check I was still ok to write this week’s article. To which I replied ‘of course’. I then gave it some thought and wished I’d said I was busy. This must be the dullest double game-week in living memory. Somebody wake me up when it’s over! While the double may be boring the league itself has suddenly got a lot more interesting with the gap between Chelsea and Spurs now down to four points. This is great news for us fantasy managers as it looks like the battle between the two sides will go to the wire meaning we don’t need to worry about rotation or their respective players switching off. This week rather than follow my usual format of tipping part...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 30

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 30 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 30. With the announcement of the majority of the upcoming DGW’s we are going to split this weeks Tips article into two sections. We will look at DGW34 a bit, as that one is nearest, and assess which teams and players involved in that one may be worth planning ahead for now in terms of bringing them in gradually over the next few weeks. We will then go on to look at this week specifically and who we would be looking at for GW30. It’ll be a juggling act over the coming games trying to accommodate both aspects so we may as well begin at the earliest opportunity and you can at least start to practice how to marry the two things up into a coherent fantasy team for the weeks ahead. DGW34 Let’...[Read More]

What I’ve Learnt From Editing the Fantasy Football Magazine

What I’ve Learnt From Editing the Fantasy Football Magazine Welcome to What I’ve Learnt From Editing the Fantasy Football Magazine. Speaking on last week’s FFSurgery Podcast, Jamie – the Fantasy Football Magazine’s co-creator – remarked that the motive for producing the magazine was simply to gain access to the best FPL advice out there before anyone else. Though Jamie was joking, I can’t help but agree with the sentiment. Having seen almost all of the magazine’s articles at least 2 gameweeks before its release date, I certainly felt as though I had gained a somewhat unfair advantage over the rest of the field. Combing through such a range of articles with more scrutiny than a US arrivals gate might’ve helped to iron out any grammatical errors, but it had the added benefit of p...[Read More]

To hit, or not to hit, that is the question…

To hit, or not to hit, that is the question… Welcome to To hit, or not to hit, that is the question… : “To hit, or not to hit, that is the question”… Well ok, it isn’t necessarily the question, but it’s certainly one that we get asked on an hourly basis on the FF247 boards. If you follow the text through, the next line actually speaks of ‘suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’. The FPL arena probably wasn’t quite the context that Shakespeare was referring to when he wrote it, but it sure is apt when it comes to the issue of taking hits! Now the fact that you have even opened this great new magazine probably means that you are an FPL player and so will almost certainly be au fait with what ‘taking a hit’ means...[Read More]

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 29

Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 29 Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Tips Gameweek 29. Over the past five game-weeks we’ve navigated our way through our first blanks and doubles of the season, a period when those who planned accordingly will have reaped the benefits. Forget that, there was as much luck as planning involved. Personally, I was lucky enough to bring in Josh King last week but the only reason I brought him in was because Phillips was ruled out. So, a big thanks to Matty Phillips and his hamstrings. So, we’re now left with 10 game-weeks and we’re split into two camps, those with and those without a wildcard. I’m not going to argue the merits of when the best time to use the wildcard is but one thing in favour of those with wildcard is that it means there is less planning i...[Read More]
