Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 25
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 25. As the two-thirds mark of this erratic FPL season approaches us, an intersection of thought naturally arises. The points obtained so far can be scrutinised, whilst new plans must be formulated. Iād like to spend some time reflecting on the former. Particularly, of course, with regards to points obtained from our captaincy selections. Youāve got a pair of options here: if (like me) you make things unnecessarily tricky for yourself, feel free to go through all of your previous Gameweek performances, counting the (doubled) total number of points that your captains have garnered; alternatively, having only recalled this website shortly afterwards, just visit fplmystats.com and, after entering a relevant mini-leagueās ID that youāre particularly interested in, let it compute this for you.
Please, by all means, enjoy the short wait by doing something that isnāt sad. Find a human to talk to. Theyād probably love to hear about your captaincy success rate!
Anyway, whatās your total? I was actually quite pleasantly surprised: 380 points, and only 95 points lost from non-optimal captaincy selections. Seeing as Iāve failed to break into the Top 100k Club so far, these figures arguably just reflect my shocking transfer decisions to date, to be honest.
The motivation of this (increasingly lengthy) introduction isnāt so that you or I can brag about relative totals. Not at all… right? The key comparison here: Salahās current grand total for the season of 179 points. Itās certainly not far off the 190 points that my captains have garnered from GW1 to GW24 inclusive. Thatās before you factor in the good fortune that underpins enduring just 3 blanks ā some pitiful evidence that I really did count everything up manually first ā and also Moās absolutely scintillating form. Thereāll be more regarding that soon! Having him as a āperma-captainā wouldāve rinsed almost any other combination of captaincies over the past month or so. Perhaps we should keep this in mind before rushing to captain a DGW player whoās not even a nailed-on starter…
Sergio AgĆ¼ero vs Arsenal (H) and Everton (A)
I wonāt mess around: this man will be my captain. Hopefully, then, you skipped that rather misleading introduction. There are two main points to note carefully here: ā13ā = 7 + 6 for the two fixtures that Man City enjoy in this first DGW of the season; ā6ā is kind with regards to Sergioās form. However, you donāt need me to tell you just how explosive he can be, nor do I need to clarify the rotation risks that Gabriel Jesus now causes. The most useful guidance that such an article can offer (in this contentious case) is merely just a collation of raw statistics. Since the 20th of January, the Man City squad has had 4 matches to contend with, and AgĆ¼ero has (chronologically from the left) contributed with:
90 + 62 + 16 + 90 = 258 minutes;
0 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 goals;
1 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 1 assist.
Interestingly, only the first and last fixtures were PL matches, the two that he played for the full 90 minutes. It remains to be seen if Pep will sustain this enduring faith in his fitness and performance levels. The potentialās certainly there. Whether the TC should be played now or not, well, thatās another matter entirely.

Mohamed Salah vs West Ham (A)
As weāre ārollingā with chronological sets of statistics: (excluding Wednesday night’s hiccup!) {21, 2, 12, 12, 12, 2, 11, 15}. That might look familiar. Now, imagine rolling a (fiddly) octahedral die, knowing that youāve got a 75% probability of a double-digit return being doubled as your captaincy return for the weekend. Thereās a 1 in 8 chance, albeit only going off recent form, that a 40+ pointerās all yours. That definitely sounds good! Away fixtures rarely seem appealing, but 46 of Moās recent 87 points ā over half, that is, if youāve done too much calculus today ā have come from non-Anfield performances. Salah, yet again, is Mr. Reliable.
Form: 9
Fixture: 7
Explosiveness: 8
Raheem Sterling vs Arsenal (H) and Everton (A)
Another candidate with a strong potential for heartbreak. Certainly palpitations as the team-sheets are released! Raheemās form has been less than poor for quite some time now, but with Pepās persistent faith in him ā only Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Ederson and Laporte have played more minutes in the PL so far ā he still warrants consideration from his wealthy FPL owners:
90 + 0 + 0 + 90 = 180 minutes;
1 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 1 goal;
0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 0 assists.
If you want a 180-minute Man City player, barring KDB or Fernandinho, then Sterlingās a strong option in attack, but he comes with no guarantees, form or team spirit. Newcastle have just inflicted a scathing defeat on the current PL champions; Liverpoolās overall momentum could sway the masses away from taking this plunge.
Form: 5
Fixtures: 13
Explosiveness: 7
Eden Hazard vs Huddersfield (H)
I barely trust little Eden enough to still own him. However, his output rate has been like that of an average maleās production of semen with time, as ~56.8% of his total points have been ejected by just 6 of two-dozen-odd matches. Huddersfield at home is quite possibly the best possible PL fixture thatās on offer this year, so side with Hazard if youāre feeling foolish but also brave, the weighting of which will only become clear on Saturday.
Form: 4
Fixture: 9
Explosiveness: 7
Leroy SanƩ vs Arsenal (H) and Everton (A)
Even though Sergioās overall ownership sits ~7% above that of Leroyās, my lurking eyes on the FF247 boards tell me that itās SanĆ© whoās currently the most popular Man City asset amongst regulars, and rightly so. His recent formās been significantly better than that of his aforementioned counterparts:
71 + 0 + 0 + 72 = 143 minutes;
1 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 1 goal;
1 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 1 assist.
Actually, that doesnāt look very impressive, but his most-recent 4 matches in the PL make for better FPL reading; heās averaged 8 points per match and played 70+ minutes in each of these. You might have to contend with Pepās frequent substitutions in both matches of this DGW extravaganza, but unless Mendy forces his way back into the team, Leroy seems to be your safest Cityzens bet.
Form: 8
Fixtures: 13
Explosiveness: 7
Good luck. Especially to those who free-spiritedly go for Richarlison or Siggy instead…

Am I good to go?
My ideal is to keep the team as it is and roll the FT so I have max transfers to take out the DGW players for GW27.
Goalie choice? Captain choice?
Thoughts please?
Yeah looks good! I’d save too, and I’d probably cap Sane instead of Aguero, more likely to get more minutes in the double than Kun imo! TAA has a chance to play too, and they play on Monday, so just keep him in there too!
I know this sounds a strange question, but would captaining Salah be a stupid idea, even though he doesn’t have a doubles game? And yes, I know he is playing against West Ham…lol
Iād say that salah is a pretty solid choice. But I guess itās more fun to have a captain with dgw…
Yeah Salah is a decent option, just thought a City player would have a higher ceiling
I would cap Sane over Kun. Rest is good.
Good article and thanks for the stats site
What do you guys think about the possibility of Sane having less game time over these two games especially with Mendy lurking?
Thank you, MBD, or Mendy Be Druyne? š itās certainly a Pep-tation risk, but given how KDB himself was eased back in, Iād be surpsired to see the Mendy resurgence so soon. If youāre really worried, wait for Pepās presser before bringing SanĆ© in, but the 70+ minutes that heās consistently getting should last ā hopefully ā over this crucial DGW period. Arsenal (H) and then Everton (A) both pose some serious challenges.
Cheers James, although would have preferred Marcus Bailly Dalot š
This should be interesting, Iāll post the results up later.
I will probably sell for Sane and then sell Sane for Son next week š
I’m keeping him for Huddersfield and selling him straight after that.
But I’m keeping him without conviction.
There’s still a possibility I’m selling him right now to Son (would it make sense?), but I think I’ll stick to my transfer plan.
I really dont know how to answer.
Hey guys. Disappointing week for me with just 39 points.
Would like advice on what to do for the upcoming gameweeks
Have 0.7 itb and 2 FT
It wasnāt a great GW24 for many managers. Donāt worry.
Wait for Man Unitedās injury news, but if nobodyās definitively ruled out, Iād be tempted by Martial ā> Richarlison.
Would Haz and martial for Son and Manne be ok ? Or should I try for Auba/ Firmino/ anyone else apart from Kamara
Been holding onto Hazard every week due to his fixtures hinting IL get rid of him the next. Doesnāt seem to be helping at all though.
Hiya all,
Not the best GW and I am sure most of you agree.
I am currently in a good spot with regards to 2 FTs but with Digne being out for the first game and possible being swapped due to poor form. I have also held onto TAA hoping that he will be fit for the upcoming fixture.
I have been thinking of dropping PEA & Anderson for Jimenez & Son to beat the price drop/rise which would leave me with 3.1ITB to play around with perhaps getting Digne replacement for a -4?
Alternatively PEA & Anderson for Jimenez & Sterling.
Any other advise would be much appreciated, heading on holiday tomorrow so would need to make transfers tonight if possible.
Transfer Option 1
So basically Sterling or Son then? I think a good many are stumped on the same issue. Iād want Son going forward but Iād be very tempted to just roll the die on Sterling this week and see what happens. Thereās a poll above on comment 9 which sort of asks this and as we speak itās very evenly split.
Oh and I should have added I wouldnāt bother with the -4 on the defender thing.
Are there any other options that you might think would be a good idea, your thoughts of getting rid of PEA?
I suppose itās a fundamental switch really in terms of either loading the mid or the front line. Heās been awfully consistent lately.
Sterling would only be temporary for me if you went there and Iād be switching him or Sane to Son at the earliest opportunity.
Kun for Auba isnāt your alternative route which also makes getting Auba back a simple task. Itās then just how else you get Son in.
Afternoon all.
Great read that jamesimmo cheers
What should I do here ?
Got 2ft 1.9 in the bank
Should I do Aubameyang to Aguero then switch back next week?
I think I would probably do that if I had that option. Although to contradict that completely Iād be very surprised if Kun started both games to make it 3 starts in 8 days.
