Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 7

Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 7.

RIP The Queen

These games may or may not now go ahead but we have cracked on regardless, in our usual optimistic fashion… Plus we’d written it all anyway.

Sometimes you can have too much choice. Sometimes you can have too little. Other times, like this week, there is one option who is particularly popular on the back of his insane form. Nonetheless, we like to explore all possible options for those who do feel brave enough to go off-piste. Fortune favours the brave, and all that!

So, get yourself a coffee, sit back and take in the captain choices that Jamesimmo, Kop, Ivan and Swirly have in store for you. There is, as always, the confessional, where the writers say, at the time of writing, who they’ll be blessing with the captain’s armband.

Jamesimmo — Jesus v Everton (H)

We’re reaching a stage where somebody is garnering ‘perma-captain’ status… and, remarkably, this is while Salah’s mere FPL XI status is being questioned. I won’t name the former player but, unless there’s a severe miscommunication within the FF247 ranks, he’ll have been mentioned in this article already…

After losing his crown as the most-owned FPL asset in history to said player, one Gabriel Fernando de Jesus will undoubtedly be keen to quickly bounce back again, especially after the first disappointment of the season for Arsenal came last weekend. It was far from a poor display that was put on by Jesus himself!

This Sunday afternoon’s opponents: Lumpy Lampard’s Everton at Emirates Stadium. I’ll admit, Everton have been (by their standards) defensively respectable thus far, but have still conceded 4 goals in their 3 PL away matches. Given that Arsenal have scored 8 goals in the same number of home matches — and that it finished Arsenal 5–1 Everton on the final day of last season — another big haul for Jesus feels very close. In case you’ve forgotten what he’s capable of in a 5–1 PL home win: bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61125045.

I urge you to just skim over my Confessional pick. Cheers!

Kop – Haaland v Spurs (H)

There was no questioning his ability prior to his arrival in the Premier League. However, some suggested it might take some time for him to find his feet in the physical world that is the Premier League. Fools!

He’s a machine. And it turns out that machines are better at football than humans are.

10 goals from six games, is all you need to know. With such a return, there’s no need to bother with any other stats.

Now, it could be argued that Spurs are City’s first big test of the season. They’ve got the joint 2nd best defence in the league and only City themselves have conceded fewer shots on target. So, can Spurs stop the Norwegian? Can they balls!

Let’s be honest with ourselves, if Haaland keeps going as he is, he’ll make this article redundant.

Ivan — Mitrovic v Chelsea (H)

Well, as many are deliberating once again who to captain between Haaland and Salah we might have a dark horse lurking around. Yes, that is Mitro, as we like to call him. He already showed us that is fixture proof, scoring 6 goals since the start of the season including against three of the top 5 flyers; Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs.

He is up against Chelsea next, a team which haven’t kept a clean sheet since GW1. This derby (it can’t get more local than that with just 1 mile distance between the two clubs) will see goals from both sides and Aleksandar will be involved.

* At the time of writing there was a Breaking News: “Manager Thomas Tuchel sacked by Chelsea”
Take it from there wink

Stats say it all. Most shots (27) so far this season, 15 of them on target, the same as Erling. Only the Norwegian magician from the Citizens better his 8 big chances created and 22 shots inside the box.

One other point is worth mentioning. In the past Mitro was known as a cards magnet but his discipline has improved and have only 2 YC, one less than Jesus, Havertz and James and the same as Kane and Cancelo.

For those on wildcard, he is a must have. After this weekend Fulham have NFO/NEW/WHU/BOU/AVL, in fact the fixtures are too good to be true all the way up to New Year’s Day.

So, if you want a differential captain, Mitrovic is your man.

Swirly — Salah v Wolves (H)

As the others have said, adding in anyone else other than Haaland feels like a bit of a thankless task, as we all know what the Norwegian continues to do – score countless goals! There was a time, of course, that Salah himself was perma-captain material, however those days seem to be just memories at the moment as Liverpool have stuttered and spluttered the start of the season and the seventh year of Klopp’s tenure there.

However, I do feel justified in mentioning the Egyptian King, not just because Elle has decided to go off-piste compared to the rest of his colleagues in including him on the Confessional. No, the reason is partly because of Liverpool’s record versus Wolves when playing at Anfield, as I alluded to within the Gameweek 7 Tips article when talking about Darwen Nunez. Whilst I’m sure you have, of course, read the article (I mean, why wouldn’t you have?!) I will repeat myself here: Wolves may be a side that has conceded just four so far this season – the best in the league – however, the Midlanders’ trips to Anfield have resulted in 3-1, 4-0 and 1-0 losses in the last three. I often like to look at previous results, because history does have a habit of repeating and so a bit of Salah’s magic reminiscent of only recently, along with a nice follow-on from the Reds’ 9-0 victory over Bournemouth – though, admittedly, without expecting half as many goals… and it would be good for him to actually manage something this time, not that I’m still bitter – could well reap the rewards for those who decide to put their faith in the guy who scored 23 goals last season.

The confessional…
This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week…. There are more caveats and get out clauses than a Lionel Messi contract but this is their initial gut feeling based upon who they actually own.

FH just to save hits could be a false economy. If you transferred the players in for strategy then you’ll probably still want to take the hit next week and you’ll only have 1FT. If the hit was a one week punt before WC then you can just WC now.

Then, there is still a probability that GW8 will also get postponed. Or, worse, just the three London games get called off.

If that is the case, we may want to FH next week and we know from last year you can’t FH in consecutive weeks because the software won’t cope. Bear that in mind before you choose to negate your hit(s)

Yes and no, I took a hit as I has walker and and a very bad away games, 4 players in the same games.

These matches might and more then likely won’t all take place at the same time now. So we might get 2 / 3 weeks with small dgw.

Also if you took a hit you will lose any h2hs your in with a -4

I want to do FH so I can get back the -4 I took when it is reinstated.
Does the FH button appear AFTER one has made a transfer? I can’t quite remember.
    Thanks!

Not sure the rules on FH. I remember when we did have 2 in a season that we couldn’t use them in successive weeks. Not sure if you FH this week if this would effect being able to use it next week if you wished. Keeping in mind that we will likely have an impacted schedule in GW8.
