Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2.
If you made it from GW1 to GW2 then that probably either means you scored well in GW1 and are still full of beans having done so or that you are simply a proper FPL player and know that you will make it to GW38 regardless. Either way GW2 is upon us so let’s go see how the weekend pans out…

Arsenal’s reserve team got off to a good start with 3 points away at Newcastle and they clash in the days early game with a bouyant Burnley side who beat Southampton 3-0 in their own first game.

3pm sees us with five games but with the exception of Liverpool it’s a list of the ‘also-rans’ again. There’s definitely a pattern developing here… Villa host Bournemouth with both looking for their first win, Everton host Watford with both looking for their first win, Norwich host Newcastle with both looking for their first win, Brighton host West Ham with both looking for their first win, (oh hang on, Brighton won?!) West ham looking for their first win. Southampton host Liverpool and of course the hosts are looking for their first win. They’ll still be looking next week too.

The evening game is argueably the first big clash of the titans this season as Man City host Spurs.

Sunday sees Sheffield United and Palace get us going at 2pm, with both teams looking for their first win. That is followed at 4.30pm by Chelsea and Leicester, with… yeah, you guessed it, both teams looking for their first win!

We go to Monday this time too as Wolves host Man United in a mouth watering clash.

The games in full…

Don’t like that we can’t see the team value and “transfers made” sections in the rival’s teams. They were important information in my opinion.

Anyone like the look of this team?

      constantine says:

      Two issues as for me-
      1. No Sterling and
      2. Who’d you bench every week?

    • 110.2
      igy4 says:

I do have Sterling, I was just playing around to see how better balanced my team could be if I went KDB for example. Yes a benching headache perhaps but one of those front 8 will have a difficult fixture each week, not that you’d bench Mane or KDB of course.

      • constantine says:

Igy, why would you want a balanced team when it doesn’t enable the most important striker of the game into your team? I’d do the vice versa. Have Sterling first and then try to fit the rest. That’s just what I think

      • Kralin says:

I think a few people got burnt by playing Mane ahead of Salah last season. Isn’t Salah much better for assists? Or was last year. It is risky but you can always wildcard soon and correct things if it doesn’t work out. Maybe go into it with that in mind – minimal(ish) risk philosophy.

      • igy4 says:

I’m not looking to make these moves, was just interested in the merits of this team. I get your comments regarding Salah and Sterling and was interested to hear whether you think KDB and Mane would be close enough come the end of the season to warrant getting some bigger players in the rest of the team as opposed to cheap fodder.

Pukki for me Silvers. Has scored more goals than anyone in the top 4 divisions since the start of last season. Granted that the majority of these have been in the Championship but he is showing he can do it in the Premier League.

I’m looking at Barnes quite closely, though he has a tough couple of fixtures – then they get really good.

I’m almost thinking some sort of placeholder striker – from Chelsea, perhaps – to replace Wilson (if I replace Wilson) then going with 2FT into the break (or wildcarding then, maybe).

Live Game Feedback Everton vs Watford

Always good to appreciate a game live as opposed to just on TV so here’s what I thought of Everton today in full and then what I thought of Watford just from a fantasy perspective.

    Jordan Pickford
Not a lot to do. Made one great save. With his face. Distribution was as usual ambitious, not always accurate today but that will happen with how he trys to play.

    Seamus Coleman
Not the Seamus we had 5 years ago. Or even 2, pre leg break. Still looks to overlap but perhaps the system hampers him in terms of not seeing the jinky runs we used to. Maybe I’m being kind and he just can’t do them anymore.

    Michael Keane
Immense, dominant and assured. Good distribution. Has really matured well. Wasn’t flustered by either Deeney’s physicality or Deulofeu’s pace and trickery. Didn’t show up as a threat from set-pieces though, which he really should given his size.

    Yerry Mina
Michael Keane on steroids. Marked Deeney, who usually looks to bully people, and bullied him. Won nearly every header he contested, and most of the ones he wasn’t even supposed to.

    Lucas Digne
Feels like an assist waiting to happen every time he gets the ball. Just wish he would put the ball in the box more often.

    Jean-Philippe Gbamin
Looked like a Rolls Royce for 10 minutes. Looked like a car crash happening for the next 80. Work in progress this one but it was his first PL game so let’s see. Will be zero fantasy help even if he turns out to be great as he’s a DM at best. Started out as Patrick Viera, ended up all Carlton Palmer.

    Andre Gomes
I knew he was good, he’s even better in the flesh close up. Cool, calm and collected but also very strong and aggresive when he needs to be. Could run most midfields in the PL. He’d still be useless in fantasy in any of them though!

    Richarlison
Hmmmm.. was really looking forward to seeing him and he was disappointing to say the least! Looked off the pace and lost his way on the ball. Visibly lost confidence and was rightly pulled off.

    Siggy
Barely got a touch in the first half in the ’10’ role. Ended up playing up top in a 4-4-2 in the 2nd half and then got even less touches! Had a couple of set-pieces which should have resulted in goals only for Richarlison to head over unmarked twice.

    Bernard
The one real bright spark. Inventive and skilful, he was the only one who caused real issues. And got the goal as a result.

    Calvert-Lewin
Surprisingly good actually, despite my previous criticism of him. Held the ball up well and was stronger than he has been. Still zero fantasy threat though!

    (notable) SUBS:
    Moise Kean
Looks like a top draw player. Should have scored twice though. Got excited on one when he smashed it rather than stroking and the other he just missed but everyone thought he he offside, perhaps including him. Once he gets off the mark and starts games I reckon he can go on one.

    Watford
I won’t go everyone but the noteables in terms of fantasty are:

    Defence
Looked solid to be fair. No real weaknesses. Holebas got a yellow which was a particular highlight as my mate asked if I was putting on a 1st GS and I said ‘no, but I’ll put £100 on Holebas getting a yellow’. I didn’t but the sentiment stands and everyone needs to tick that one off their bucket list at some point.

    Midfield
We occasinally see Doucoure and Capoue pop up with a goal or assist but they were just workman- like DM’s at best. Pereyra; didn’t even notice he was playing. Will Hughes was ok but nothing special.

    Forwards
Deeney was nullified by Mina. Deulofeu was quality and a real pest on the break. Didn’t work very hard though. feel’s like he’s a ‘moment’ sort of player.

All in all it was a shit game! They cancelled each other out. My conclusion from a fantasy perspective was that I would sell Siggy, not consider Richarlison, consider Moise Kean once he’s nailed, be on the fence with Deulofeu and pray that Digne is OK.

Late night call for help before price rises if anyone still up!?
Thinking of doing Fraser Wilson dondecker to Pukki Martial and cabellos for point-4 ….should increase team value, add bench options etc and tbf all performing better than who I have!
What do you think…go for it …anyone else I should be looking at?
    Cheers

I’d do it. Otherwise, Tammy Abraham might be a good option for replacing Callum. Chelsea has a good run in GW3/4
