Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 38

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Gameweek 38. That’s your lot folks! Well, it will be in about 3 hours anyway… GW38 always seems so brutal. We are used to game-weeks spanning 3-4 days, sometimes even 6 or 7. And then when it really comes down to the final reckoning we are all lined up in front of the FPL firing squad and shot at for 90 short minutes as if we’d just been caught in Malaysia with a gram or two in our back pockets. And it’s a bit of an odd one to call as nearly all matters are sorted, barring a couple of highly unlikely goal difference swings. And we are talking huge ones here – a Liverpool draw and a Chelsea 16-0 win. And a Saints loss, a Swansea win and a 10 goal swing. The Saints do however face Man City so you just never know! But being realistic it’s all done and dusted. The main talking points will probably centre around rotation and regardless of what nonsense the managers trotted out in their press conferences about ‘playing until the end with professionalism’ there will be rotation aplenty. There’s usually a fair few goals on the last day too. Here’s hoping your amongst them.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to stop by and comment on Live Match Chat each week, it’s the fun end of the FPL week, indeed it’s the action end of it. We appreciate every single comment :worthy:

Ended the gameweek with 65pts and had a red arrow but ended this season with easily my best ranking yet of 29k. Throughout the year, all the articles and the RMTs have helped me big time! Cheers to everyone here and I’ll be back next seasonsmile

And now just a brief piece on something I always find particularly interesting (so that I can ignore FPL for the foreseeable future).

This team at the beginning of the season:

    Fabianski – £4.5m – 157 points
    Azpilicueta – £6.5m – 175 points
    Alonso – £7.0m – 165 points
    Otamendi – £5.5m – 156 points
    Salah – £9.0m – 303 points (606 as captain)
    Sterling – £8.0m – 229 points
    Eriksen – £9.5m – 199 points
    Mahrez – £8.5m – 195 points
    Son – £8.0m – 178 points
    Vardy – £8.5m – 183 points
    Firminio – £8.5m – 181 points

    Subs:
    Elliot – £4.0m
    Mariappa – £4.0m
    Long – £4.0m
    Quaner – £4.5m

    Would have the following profile:

    Cost: £100.0m
    Total Points (starting XI): 2424
    Overall Ranking: 196-205

Adding 25 points for sub appearances and 2 vice captains (very rough assumption, will do the full analysis over the summer) takes the overall points to 2449 and ranking to 62-66.

Accounting for TC and FH (GW31) and the team is pushing top 10 without a transfer needed (weirdly maybe the transfers needed would have been for Mariappa and Long when they became viable options).

Yes it would have been near on impossible to pick this exact XI at the beginning of the season but if you had to choose an XI with no transfers allowed, Alonso, Azpi, Salah, Eriksen, Sterling, Firminio and Vardy would have featured in a lot of teams. Interestingly, Kane’s price has kept him out of this team but there are lots of variations which include him with a similar total points (in a 5-3-2 formation 😉 )

The ultimate question I’m interested in analysing is

‘Is 38 free transfers a season a hidden trap?’

Good morning all. Huge thanks to everyone behind the scenes at ff247 and all the writers who helped me finish with a personal best OR of 9885. Always feel a little empty at the end of the season and that’s attributed to how great a collection of folks are here on the site and everyone’s ability to turn it into a real community. So cheers to everyone for all the hard work.

Pretty disappointed as I sat around 3k after GW35 before the debacle of season’s end. Also, my ML was a head 2 head league for the first time this year and I’m not a fan. Basically led the whole way and had the best OR in the league by far, but lost in the ‘first round’ playoff. Pretty crap. Bring on the World Cup!! (says everyone except my country…)

True, but the end of your FPL season was brilliant GP! Hoping my Fulham can pull it off tonight and not add more misery. 😮

What a season?! I finished on 2,335 points with a ranking of 66,527. Both are my best ever in my 6 seasons as a manager. While I am pleased with those starts I was absolutely poor from GW 26 where I slide down the rankings. I regret captaining Harry Kane for sometime over Salah and using The Free Hit Chip too early in the season. I want to thank all the admins for their hard work during the course of the season. Keep up the good work . I also want to thank all the managers for giving their advice. I must say it helped me throughout the season on who to transfer in, who to captain and when to use the chips. Hope everybody have a restful summer because being a manager is very stressful.
