Right then, you’ve had your break….

The World Cup officially begins on Thursday June 11th. With 48 teams, 3 host countries and spanning 4 different time zones with 13 different kick-off times this could be messy. But let’s give it a try………

The Rules – in short

It looks very much like Champions League rules, in a roundabout way. The main takeaways are essentially;

  • $100m budget
  • Squad of 15
  • 3 separate matchdays for the group stages
  • Separate matchdays for each round thereafter
  • You can switch players in from your bench during each matchday
  • Likewise you can switch your Captain to your hearts content
  • Deadlines are kick-off times – good luck with that one!
  • There are a myriad of ‘Boosters’ to use

Basically you can find all the rules HERE

To get started you can login and pick your team by clicking this link

Fixtures

There are a lot, obviously. Too many to post up sensibly so instead you will have to settle for the groups:

  1. Very tempted to take the biggest gamble and move the armband from Oyarzabal to Kane. Feel like a hatty+ is coming wacko

  2. Old man Cr7 with a brace.. so all the big names have scored multiple goals. I am glad i got nuno mendes, hopefully a cs too with his goal.

  3. Who to drop out of Mbappé or Haaland (Kane is my other FWD) as they play each other, thinking of getting Messi v Jordan?

    • Haaland as france defense stronger. No guarantee messi plays jordan as arg guaranteed top spot

      • Tempted to drop Kane now!

Messi will want to score more goals for the golden boot etc surely?

        • Eng play panama next.. messi wants golden boot but does the manager want it,? I am playing alvarez.. he should start either instead of messi or lautaro.

      • Looks like messi will play. Most sources indicate so.

  4. England are poor so far 35mins in.

  5. Doesn’t look like Tuchel will be brining it home sad

    • To be honest, winning a world cup with 48 teams is incredibly hard.. and thus far i have never seen such an open world cup.. there was always 5-6 teams who can win it but now there are like 10-14 teams who can perhaps go all the way.

  6. I’d create a poll if I could. I don’t like them but I was wondering what everyone else thinks of the hydration breaks?

    • They are needed suppose because of the heat, but I don’t really like them, however I think it will be something that does come in sometime in the future everywhere as they consider H&S and player welfare more and more.

      • So it is hot AF in say Atlanta this time of year. I grew up near there. That said the stadium is indoors. Same with Houston and Dallas. I live near Los Angeles, it is going to be 75f/23c and that stadium is mostly covered with a break in the side for the ocean breeze to blow in. Seems like something that should get decided on game day like the final starting lineup.

    • I don’t mind it. Us fans can get a drink or snacks or take a leak without worrying if we ll miss an important moment.. and would probably help player welfare. I also like the countdowns for throw ins , goal kicks, subs, etc.. i am also used to it watching cricket, nba, tennis, all which have short breaks in between.
