Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 32

Welcome to Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks Gameweek 32. After an international break, the FA decided to give us three GWs over nine days – there is non-stop action going on here folks as the next round kicks off at Saturday noon when Spurs welcome Watford to White Hart Lane. All the big teams face weaker opposition this round, meaning that there are several players to consider for the armband. Manchester City, Everton, and Tottenham all play at home, while Chelsea have to take the trip to Bournemouth, and Arsenal face Palace in a London derby. Manchester United face Sunderland, but their recent shyness in front of goal and lack of fantasy options exclude any United players from being among the options in this article. I assume most Zlatan owners are ghost teams, but if any of you have brought him in, he at least deserves to be considered for the armband, given his opposition. The rest of the standout captain candidates for this GW are mentioned below, so let us take a look at which players to consider captaining this game-week, shall we?

Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli (home vs Watford)

It looked like the Tottenham boys were going to blank Wednesday night against Swansea, before a late comeback saw both Eriksen and Alli reward their owners with a goal and an assist apiece. Alli has been the form player recently, gathering four goals and three assist in his last five matches, while Eriksen has gotten two goals and four assists in the same run of fixtures. Tottenham have won five Premier League matches in a row, and with their opponents being Watford at White Hart Lane at the weekend, there is no reason to believe that they will not win this match as well. Watford may have won their last two matches, but they were at home against Sunderland and West Bromwich. A quick look through Watford’s results this season shows that they have consistently struggled against teams better than them – for instance, Tottenham won 4-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Tottenham are clear favourites to win this match comfortably, and whichever attacking Tottenham player you have should be considered a captain candidate that is not only likely to produce a good score but could even provide an explosive score if Tottenham decide to run riot.

Sergio Aguero (home vs Hull)

[/three_fifth]Both City and Aguero have been a bit of a mixed bag recently. After winning four matches in a row, City have three draws and one loss in their recent matches. Excluding Stoke, these matches were against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea, so City and Aguero will be glad to see that Hull are coming to the Etihad next. While Aguero has failed to deliver double digit points since GW13, he has four goals and one assist in his last six matches, showing consistency rather than explosiveness. Hull may have improved under Marco Silva, winning three of their last four home matches, but their last three away games have resulted in three losses and nine goals conceded. In fact, Hull have not kept a clean sheet in seven matches, relying on outscoring their opponents rather than keeping it tight at the back. As such, this may be the match where Aguero runs riot again. He has consistently improved since being dropped for Gabriel Jesus, and if City play the way we know they can play, Aguero could be an excellent captain choice.

Eden Hazard, Diego Costa (away vs Bournemouth)

[/three_fifth]While still being top of the league, Chelsea have ‘only’ won three of their last five matches, with a loss to Crystal Palace and a draw against Burnley. They may face a tougher opponent than we expect when they travel to face Bournemouth, as Bournemouth have not lost in five matches, earning two wins and three draws in the process. If we look at Chelsea’s recent matches, we can see that they have been tight: three 2-1 victories, one 1-2 loss, then two 3-1 victories and two 1-1 draws before that. In other words, Chelsea have managed to ground out victories, despite dominating their opponents less than previously. As such, they must be considered favorites for this match as well. Their standout players, Costa and Hazard, are the two captain candidates from this team. Costa has blanked in his last three matches, but managed three goals and one assist in the five preceding matches. We all know Costa’s quality, but recent form suggests that Hazard is the better option, as he has failed to score or assist in only three of his last twelve matches. Additionally, he has three double digit returns in his last six matches, scoring four goals, two assists, and nine bonus points, which shows that he is as explosive as he is consistent. In two of the matches he got three bonus points, he only scored one goal and was substituted yet still managed to get all three bonus points, proving how influential he is while on the pitch. While Bournemouth may present a challenge to Chelsea, the Blues must still be considered favourites. Expect Chelsea to grind out another victory here, with Hazard and Costa leading the line, making them both prime candidates for your armband.

Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi (away vs Stoke)

[/three_fifth]With both Lallana and Mane injured, many raised questions as to how these injuries would affect Liverpool’s attacking play, but it was defensively Liverpool struggled as they played 2-2 at home against Bournemouth Wednesday night. Origi and Coutinho both scored a goal, with Firmino providing an assist. While I am highlighting three players from Liverpool, they have all produced well recently. Coutinho has two goals and one assist in his last two matches, Origi has two goals and two assists in Liverpool’s last five matches despite only starting two of them, and Firmino has one goal and five assists in his last six. Stoke have gone four matches without a win, and they have consistently played poorly against better teams, losing 1-4 at Anfield earlier this season. Liverpool are on better form, with three wins and two draws recently. While the trip to Britannia may scare some fantasy managers away from Liverpool players, Liverpool are the favorites to win against a team that underperforms against better opposition, and Coutinho, Firmino, and Origi are all likely to be among Liverpool’s goals, and they are also likely to be overlooked by many as captain candidates for this round.

Romelu Lukaku (home vs Leicester)

[/three_fifth]Despite blanking against Liverpool and Manchester United, Lukaku had great form before these matches, as he had five goals and two assists in the four preceding matches. Lukaku has grown from being the unreliable fantasy player we all had come to love and hate to being a consistent performer, putting him top of the top scorer chart with twenty-one goals this season. Everton’s recent performances have been as expected: they won comfortably at home against Sunderland, Hull, and West Bromwich, scoring nine goals and conceding none in the process, while they lost away against Tottenham and Liverpool and earned a draw at Old Trafford. Everton’s opponents, Leicester, have won all five matches since Ranieri’s sacking, but it is noteworthy that four of these matches were at home and that Liverpool was the only team in the top half of the table they faced. In other words, Everton away will be Shakespeare’s biggest test so far, and with Everton’s remarkable home form, Everton must surely be considered the favourites here. Lukaku has double digit returns in three of Everton’s last four home matches, making Lukaku a reliable and explosive captain candidate.
