FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team; The Season Wrap Up

Welcome to FF247 Fantasy Football Site Team; The Season Wrap Up.
GW39…. What’s the opposite of teambuilding?

We’ve all been there; be it at school, at Cub Scouts, at work or as part of a sports team. Some bright spark decides it’s raft building day in the naive hope that this somehow will strengthen bonds and ties and bring you all together into some sort of seamless unbeatable unit. Cue 11am on the edge of a freezing river and there are two distinct schools of thought already at play. The alpha males are out in force with their lofty ideas, staring one another down whilst some others stand back shrugging their cold shoulders with indifference and some others are cowering under the trees hoping nobody notices that they are even there. Some begrudged give and take occurs and an hour or two later a hybrid version of the plans is seemingly under way. Or so it appears anyway, planks are placed, planks are sneakily replaced, ropes are tied, ropes are deviously untied. Eventually the thing looks seaworthy and is pushed out on it’s voyage. Half way across the lake it looks like falling apart and casting it’s entire occupancy to the depths but ultimately the crew see the bigger picture and finally begin to work together to ensure they make it to the other side.

GW38 Round up
We shall begin as ever with our usual analysis of last week which saw us finish on 67 points, 16 above the overall average of 51. But without boring you to tears with the detail, 4 players performed (TAA, Mane, Kun (c) and Zaha), with a total of 52 between them, you can do the math and probably fill in our swear words to describe how the other 7 fared.

GW38 Team In Full;

Final Standings
The above resulted in our 15th green arrow since GW19, which may sound fantastic but it was a slow and steady rise to say the least! We were 84,654th prior to that and ended up at 5,757th come the end, with 2,406 points overall. We achieved our highest season rank in GW38 itself which is always a good point at which to peak, and we beat our best ever overall rank, albeit by just a couple of hundred places. Anytime you set off on this journey the hallowed (for whatever reason!) Top 10k seems to be a reasonably accepted aim for success, we prefer to think that to beat your own personal best, be that 5k or 50k or 500k is a more reasonable target to set yourself. To that end, and with that excuse placed conveniently in our pocket, we achieved our goal.

Mini-league wise we don’t play in many, in fact the only two we even look at are the FF247 Contibutors League (the writers / wider team) and the Ryder Cup (GB&I vs the MLS lot). We won the former which is always pleasing, as it keeps them all in their place and we came 2nd in the latter, which was a bit disappointing but we beat the Yanks as a team so every silver cloud and all that.

Apparently we won the FF247 Division One Head-to-Head league too, gaining promotion in the process. Although we must admit (sorry Elle!) we hadn’t even noticed we were in it!

See you next season!
We appreciate it’s a bit of a pointless article, but who cares and all that, we just wanted to give you the final synopsis given as we know that many do follow it with interest along the way, and we are grateful to everyone who does.

We have an interview article in the offing with Pele (not that one!) who won the FF247 Regulars League and then after that we shall probably take a small but well earned break as we recharge our FPL batteries ahead of next season.

See you all soon!

To all veterans in FPL: Anyone facing the below fall as a pattern? I am suffering from this fall mid-season (Gw18/19 – 25/26) over last few seasons. Any reason you can think of?

I dropped 14k to 78k during this span and then climb again, but not good enough to reach back 14k.

Maybe you’ve stumbled into fantasy football’s mutual time dilation and the twin paradox?

Otherwise no – it could be that you take a few risks mid-season, to spice things up. Perhaps you become jaded at that stage, where the thrill of the opening is over and the end seems far away. Maybe you need to pace yourself better?

In the equivalent period I saw a modest rise, so there doesn’t seem to be a wider issue. Though maybe others playing the game suffered as you did and I was a lucky one.

      • GoalMachine says:

Found the missing players: Gw18-21 (Son causing 48k drop), Gw19(Hazard – one off), Gw20(Pogba – one off), Gw25-26(Aguero causing 27k drop). When did you pick Son?

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I sold Salah just before his hatty in early December, that was one missing player for me as well… Didn’t have Son either, didn’t have Hazard, Pogba, or Aguero either, so guess it just goes down to not having the correct big-hitters at the time…

      • GoalMachine says:

@Kralin ZL – Do you guys take into account ownership in your transfer decision? On a hind-sight, I realised that I did not put much attention to that – like obvious I paid attention to fixture and form alone.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I didn’t take ownership into account to be frank…

        • Kralin says:

I paid very close attention to player ownership. Not so much overall, more where I was in the OR. Once I broke into the top 10 I paid extremely close attention, because to deviate too much would have seen me rapidly depart.

I took a very big risk by not owning Sterling – his overall ownership was 25% ish but within the top 10 it was over 70%.

      Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I’ve had very similar experience in my last two seasons as well, basically started season well and was in 50K come December, then went down during the middle of the season to 300-600K and then towards the end started climbing back again, but I just thought it has been down to very bad luck, wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a pattern just yet…

      • GoalMachine says:

I missed 50 points of Son in Gw18-21 and Aguero’s 2 big hauls 25-26. The Aguero part is a luck as he is hit/miss. But I guess the Son part is my mistake – should have picked him at least in Gw17 (after LEI) or 19 (after Eve).

Son had Gw13-21 a huge 88 points – so its not random. When did you pick Son? I had Kane from Gw15-23 – it means I picked the correct team, but could not get out of Kane dilemma. Its a mistake – should have got into in-form Son train.

        • GoalMachine says:

Gw13-21 is a long spell and its surely my mistake of staying away…most of the people picked him by Gw18/19 (during 1st WC end-time) and ownership (434k to 1m managers) went-up quite high – that caused a big rank drop.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I had Kane as well instead of Son during December, and he was even rested for one game although I picked him over Son due to nailedness smile I picked Son just before GW25 so way too late, and of course had the wrong player again in GW25 in Sane instead of Aguero or Sterling…. They were 50/50 calls so it’s a game of luck of course…

        • Kralin says:

I ignored Son for most of the season – brought him in (pretty much pointlessly, though obviously I wanted more) in GW34 (the wildcard).

What do United fans make of the signing of Daniel James?

    GoalMachine says:

So far we (ARS) we have got some 10 defenders and umpteen number of wide/AM players. Ultimately we will get may be 1-2 unknown players from some unknown second tier of teams. smile
    ARS links:
    (1) DEF: Manolas, Kannemann, Dakonam, Hermoso, Saliba, Dunk, Konate, Umtiti, Bailey, Maguire, AWB….and so on
    (2) WING/MID: Carrasco, Zayech, Fraser, Zaha, Tossard, Partey, Golovin, Palacios, Rice, Doucoure,………and so on

    Otieno says:

So since Salzburg have already got the CL group stage entry reserved for the CL winners and Lyon are next in line for a group place if Chelsea win Europa. Any idea who gets their original designated qualifying round places?

    • 22.1
      Kralin says:

I hope you’ve not be sat there since 1.31pm, Otieno, pressing F5 every 10 seconds.

      I know that I have.

Let’s pretend that the Norwegian team, Odds Ballklubb, has been given the nod. Otherwise we’ll be sat here all night.

      • inittowinit says:

They deserve it to be fair, they’ve risen out of the ashes of the Micheal Kappel era, wasn’t their best time ever. Really pushed on since though with youth development being the key. Be interesting to see how they fare in it if they get beyond the qualifiers.

    Otieno says:

It’s already midnight bar a few minutes so technically we have been sat all night. I have a genuine interest because whoever gets the extra place could draw the team from England who I support in the first round

Hey guys. Anyone know if there’s a way to find out who the admin is for a mini league on the FPL site?

I won my mini league in my old job, problem is there are hundreds working there and I don’t know anyone from the league nor can I remember who ran it.
