Fixture Tracker – Fantasy Premier League 2014-15

Fixture Tracker - Fantasy Premier League 2014-15We’ve all seen a few different ways of viewing upcoming fixtures, and the one that has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years is the colour-coded one. With this, you can instantly see each team’s approaching fixtures with an accompanying colour that corresponds to the difficulty of each match. This is very useful for both identifying teams that are potentially about to have a great run due to a kind set of fixtures, and also identifying weaker teams that can rotate well, i.e. when one team has a bad fixture the other will have a decent one, so you swap between the two players. For more info on rotation, check out Mito’s somewhat exceptional article on it 😉 Rotation Analysis Home and Away and Favourable fixtures

Many of these colour-coded tickers only show a few weeks in advance, which is very helpful for short-term plans, but not if you’re planning transfers for the long-term. It is understandable that these tickers are short-term, as teams’ form tends to fluctuate as the season progresses, so if you made a season-long ticker now, it may well not be a good reflection of how difficult a match is come Christmas or Easter. Who knows, maybe Villa will get off to a blinder and win 10 out of 15 (hahaha!), in which case a game against them would no longer be considered easy. Also, sometimes we may even disagree with the colour a certain match has been assigned by the fantasy football gurus that make the tickers! The ticker I have made is designed with both of these points in mind, and can be updated throughout the season as and when you see fit.

Customisable Tracker
Some of you may already have seen my earlier prototype after I posted it on the boards last week (much to init’s dismay :p ) – I have since added all 38 GWs to the tracker, modified the colours used and added a new custom search for individual teams, so even if you had the original please do use this updated version instead.

fig1 And it works like this: I have split up all 20 teams into four groups of similar ability, and then given every possible combination (of which there are 32) a difficulty rating of between A and E (5 difficulties as opposed to 3 for greater accuracy). Both of these factors are the variables that you can change, and doing so will automatically update the colours in your fixtures tab. Simply click on the ‘Variables’ tab as shown in fig.1, change any of the values in the cyan-coloured columns shown in fig. 2,fig2 and you will be able to view your very own customised 38 GW fixture tracker as shown in the main image above. This is all explained in more detail in the ‘How It Works’ tab. Finally, I have made a ‘Compare Fixtures’ tab as well – this allows you to select only the teams you wish in order to see just how well they compare and/or rotate, without having the distraction of all 20 teams’ colours present. If you wish to use this tool then select the ‘Compare Fixtures’ tab and then click on the ‘Add Team’ drop-down menu as shown in fig. 3 and choose the team you want. You can do this with as many or as few teams as you wish. Though it seems rather simple, I found this last feature very tricky and would not have been able to make it work as well as it does without the help of Dreamers, so a huge thanks to him!

fig3I have made the link read-only, so as to preserve the template in its original format for everyone in case the formulas stop working. Just save your own version of the file, and you will be able to customise it entirely as you see fit. Please bear in mind that this was made with Google Sheets and is intended to be used in that format so it can be saved in favourites for easy access; if you download it with Excel then the margins and borders will probably be off so will need adjusting. I am always open to suggestions for ways to improve it, so feel free to send me a message or post a comment below to that effect if you have any ideas. And finally, I have double- and triple-checked the fixtures, but there are a lot of them and after a point they all tend to blur together, so if you spot any mistakes please let me know as soon as possible!

Click the link below for the file. Hope it helps a few of you, happy customising.

Hi Maverick, liking the Barton punt. Think he could be a great differential given set piece duties etc. I’d play him GW1 instead of Siggy personally. The rest looks sound to be fair. Keep an eye on the City strikers situation in regard Dzeko. Welcome to the site and hope you stick around posting this season.

Mavs I probably play Caulker also at home to Hull and definitely Adrian over Speroni. And I agree with the Chicken on Barton over Siggy. Very solid team!

Nice to have you and hope you stick around.

Mavericks2 eh? Why “2”? Just because to not have a number would be too mainstream and you’re…. Well… You’re a Maverick! I like it.

Ok, your team… Love the defense. Nice to see a different keeper combo. Should serve you well.
Solid defense. Sure you’re already aware of the question mark over Wisdom, but i doubt you’ll play him much with that line up.

Solid midfield and front line too. Its actually amazing to see how much stronger and balanced a team can look when not going for Costa/Premium alongside Rooney.

Nice effort mate. Welcome to the site. It’s a nice place ,mostly. 😉

    NIN says:

Anyone have Schuler in MLS? 2 goals and a clean sheet at HT.

    • 200.1

      You wet the bed Nin?!

Not got him no, but i’ve had a nice return from Le Toux tonight.

And i really should’ve had more than 2 earn a penalty points from my cheeky differential Akindele.

Oh well. Hows your team doing?

      • NIN says:

Yeah, second time this week! Sigh.

I thought about Schuler a few weeks back but brought in Rimando instead. Yeah Le Toux done great, thankfully he was my (c). Got 55 (-4) at the mo with 7 playing/yet to play. Team has been doing rally well lately.

        How are you doing?

        • Wow! Nice one mate.
I went a bit silly on the hits. I’m on a -8 and only on 33 so far.
Guess theres a reason i’m only ranked 3,208! Ha!

        • NIN says:

Ta. Keane, Zardes and Triple RSL has shot me up the rankings, sitting at 380 now. How many playable squad members do you have mate? I’ve gone with just 2 bench players and no sub GK and take a -4 every 2nd week. Been working a treat.

Mito is still doing great! 4th in the world. Really hope he wins it.

        • Thats a great rank mate. And yeah, would be brilliant to see Mito win it. I think i’ve got 3 super cheapies that never play. Only my first season playing and i really have no idea what i’m doing. Hopefully after a while living here and watching some games i’ll pick it up for a better effort next year.
Keep it up mate. A top 300 or so would be great!

        • NIN says:

Yeah i was similar, only had a few non entities but others teams having much higher SV’s was beginning to annoy me so decided to pump the $ into the first 11. Top 1k will do me mate! Ha.

How’s your FPL pondering’s going? Getting close to ‘that’ team?

        • Ponderings starting to lead to something now thanks mate. Should be putting dit out there to be shot down midweek. I keep seeing some great teams / comments on here that change my mind though. Hard to settle on a 15 at the moment. Last round of friendlies should help.

          You settled yet?

        • NIN says:

Nice one. Yeah i think i’m done. Still mulling over a couple of positions but in general my squad is complete. Just want it all to kick off now. No PL football makes NIN a dull boy. No PL football mak…… Oh dear.

        • NIN says:

18 points for Schuler! Oh how sweet that would be!

      jamesimmo says:

    Max says:

RMT and the following option pleese!

Eriksen + Dzeko or Hazard + Bojan?

    • 201.1
      NIN says:

Max – Looks good mate. I’d probably go with Pantilimon though, as a rotation with Krul. I’d go with Hazard&Bojan.

      • Yep. Pretty much what he said.

      • Sorry, had another look.
I know this is going to make your team look like a lot of the others but, i don’t like the cheapies you’ve chosen.

WBA, Burnley, Southampton and Hull could maybe be improved on slightly. Or if not, have you checked how well they rotate? There is a good article you can get to from the home page on rotating teams, or you could use Calvin Clynes snazzy fixture tracker to plot teams that work well together.

    James101 says:

    Morning gents

    Nice attacking team?

    What would you change?

    Krul Mannone

    Shaw Cahill Davies Wisdom Bruce

    Sanchez Yaya Barkley sigurdsson Tiote

    Rooney Costa Bojan

    Thanks!!

    • 202.1
      Mourinho says:

Nice team. Just make sure Shaw starts, pre season suggests he could be rotated

    • 202.2
      jamesimmo says:

Hi James, I would change Barkley, unless you’re looking for differentials?

For 7.0m I just feel there are better ways to spend the money, but he could prove me wrong, some tough games to start with though. Considering Yaya’s in there it’s a really sound squad though.

    DDG – Krul
    Luis – B.Davies – Ferdinand – Mariappa – Cameron
    Mata – Sterling – Eriksen – Siggy – Tiote/Albrighton
    Rooney – Costa – Dzeko/Adebayor

Any suggestions in general and any better 4.5m midfielders that are guaranteed starts?

    • 203.1
      serendipity says:

I think albrighton was injured yesterday , which reduces your options. Have you considered Bojan to allow more funds for the mid? I think all 4.5 mids will be a risk of not starting. I also think Cameron is a risk of not starting, I realize the others are more expensive though.

    • 203.2
      Ripsaw says:

Ben Davies hasnt featured pre season, Rose will more than likely get the nod for the Spurs LB for now.
Mariappa & Cameron may wanna be reconsidered as both are prone to rotation, van Aanholt for Sunderland looks a decent replacement and has been playing.
As Seren says Albrighton looks to be injured.
Other than that your team looks strong, I like Adebayor over Dzeko.
      Hope this helps.

      • musungu says:

        Ripsaw
Davies played for Spurs on Saturday for the whole second half and Rose was poor as usual in the first half – I think Davies will play

        • Ripsaw says:

I Didnt know that musungu, I only watched the first half when they were 1-0 up, food for thought as I had Davies originally, thanks for the update
