Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!
To help you decide or just confuse you a bit more, we have asked 3 of our writers to pass judgment on what players you would do well to pick up and what players are better left out of the fray. We hope this is a simple straight forward formula that can assist you in your decision making as we ride out this International Break. I avoided including players like Siggy, Di Maria or Costa as there is really no point. There seems to be overwhelming consensus on these cats.
Grab – You need this player on your squad. On the Def/Keeper categories if they select Grab, they will give us a name or two from said team. Eg. Grab De-Gea
Avoid – It’s a trap don’t get suckered in.
Bore off – If you have him play him, if you don’t have him don’t bother getting him. Really not worth the extra effort.
Then again they may just go off piste and ramble regardless!

Arsenal: Mesut Ozil to have scan on injured knee
“Ozil has travelled to Munich to undergo an MRI examination,” a German Football Association statement said.
Aaaah, that’s why he’s been so shite the last 2 seasons. It all makes sense now.
Ozil been ruled out for up to 12 weeks
With Ozil out does anyone think the Ox or Cazorla could be a good differential now?
Fergie – just had this convo with an Arsenal fan – actually before we got the news on Ozil. Asked him what his ideal starting XI would be, with everyone fit.
Szczesny
Debuchy, Chambers, Kos, Gibbs,
Walcott, Sanchez, Ramsey, Ox, Wilshire
Welbeck
No sign of Ozil, Caz or Mert…..
That’s interesting! I’m on the look out for a reasonably priced midfield differential… Downing, mane, ox all being considered. Definitely waiting for Walcott to come back as he is fantasy gold when fit.
I’m more concerned for what it means for Welbeck because someone like Ozil in the team would be ideal for him…
Welbeck will still get plenty of chances to miss LS…. Great gooner fixtures and they still have plenty of attacking talent in their midfield.
Hopefully, but only time will tell.
Have a little faith Ls
Anyway, how’s your (and Gallows) team getting along? :hippo:
My team is ready to climb up the rankings very very soon, annoying to see so many template teams about to be honest.
Not really annoying but quite boring! That’s why yesterday I mentioned I wouldn’t mind a few injuries and knocks (nothing serious) this international break to make life more interesting. Imagine everyone having to replace Costa, Fabregas, Di Maria etc…
Fergie, I see a lot of people moaning about template teams…..with the midfield of ADM, Cesc, Sterling, Siggy and a mixture of Costa/Welbeck/Pelle/Kun up front…..
are these people moaning the ones who tried to be clever at the start, pick differentials and not pick those players who have scored the points?!
not having a pop at you mate, you know that, but on twitter all I see are people moaning about “template teams”!!!!
A shake up would make it interesting but within 3 weeks everyone will
Have bought the same players again.
I hear what you’re saying cookie, my frustration comes from the fact that I had these players when they were quite low owned. The only one I didn’t have was sterling. The price rise system this year has made it much easier for everyone to get the now “template” team.
yeah agreed, the price rises have defo had a major impact – but, as importantly, you tired to go different from GW2? RvP? by paying up for him didn’t help you elsewhere….and then those who went Kun, Costa etc had moire cash to spend and got all of these “template” players when they figured it was the way to go.
*tried
For sure but even when I had RVP I still had Costa, Siggy, fabregas even Naismith who was heavily owned at one point. I’ve been early on the Di Maria bandwagon too. A couple of bits of bad luck haven’t helped- selling Costa prior to that Everton game for starters and benching Siggy at Old Trafford… oops lol.
you weren’t the only one to bench Siggy in GW1 in fairness. too many changes Fergie, too many changes…..Costa in, out, in…Rooney in, out. RvP in, out. Sturridge in, out…..no Sterling.
Really not having a pop mate, you know that – but the difference is those at the top got Costa and kept Costa for example. While you hadn’t a settled front line, those doing well have and generally had the template squad (or 80%) from the start and then bolted on.
Patience man, stop tinkering and trust those you believe in!!
Costa was sold because he was supposed to be injured, Sturridge was injured so had to be sold otherwise he would be in my team still. I do agree I’ve been making too many changes and I’m happy with what I have now so hopefully I can work from a more settled squad.
I sold Costa too lol !!!
Rule number 1 never trust Jose lol. Sturridge was bought in as his replacement and then he got injured on me too
Happy with my lot now… Any changes will be made gradually. Waiting on the return to fitness of Walcott and also Rooney. I think he could be an awesome option after the city game.
Right, lovely chatting – off home. Laters
Nope, rule number 1 is make your own decisions.
How many times have I tkld you to stop listening to your grandad boyfriend? 😉 You never learn !
Told*
Laters Cookie.
His ideal 11 does not even have a DM
Save FT? 1.2M itb.
Dont want to bring in ADM yet since he got Chelsea, City and Arsenal in the coming 5 GWs.
The B – it’s a good team but if you don’t bring in ADM now you never will… he’ll just keep rising. doesn’t matter who he’s playing. apart from that, swap cahill for baines this week and you’re set
My long term plan was to do Cahill, Chambers and Chadli > Moore, Wisdom and ADM. But i guess that will take around 2 to 3 weeks.
Dont want to get rid of Hazard just yet when he has Palace next.
Hey B- same boat here. I’m struggling to bring in ADM and unfortunately I think it will be Fab to make way for me. ADM’s fixtures are a good point, but I think Gslipped may be right on this one. Now or never!
Hi guys,
Always a great read. Cookie, init and kop!
What is everyone’s plans with transfers? Get in now before price rises or wait it out till right before the next games?
Also would buying a 3.9 midfielder to squeeze in the best players to your squad be a bad thing?
Makeya, it would be brilliant and we’d all be doing it if there was one available! Cheapest is 4.4mln I believe.
Thanks re the article – but more thanks to Mito who spent all the time setting it up – we just spent 5mins filling it in!
Re transfers, I have already dealt – three transfers on Monday – don’t trust price movements or indeed keep an eye on them anymore and knew the players I wanted.
No, we wouldn’t all be doing it. Some would still prefer to buy Downing :hippo: 😉
sadly true you wally – now who would have a crazy plan like that? ;whatever:
:whatever:
Lol, to be fair he’s doing alright this season and as Gerrardslipped ( :finger: ) mentioned below he’s not a bad option for 2 rotating mids because he’s too expensive for a 5th cheap mid. It’ll just be tricky to know when to bench or play him (which is why I prefer to play it safe with no rotation).
downing is not a bad pick IMO. I don’t have him but if you’re going for 3 big MFs and then 2 to rotate he could be one of the 2. he’s fairly priced in that bracket
I have Downing as my 4th mid for this gameweek against Burnley.
Haha sorry fellas, I mean 4.3m. I can do this transfer now, I just hope it doesn’t bite me in the ass. How much more do you think a 4.3m mid would drop over the next 5 or so GWs?
what mid is worth 3.9m!? but in answer to your q, get in now if it’s someone rising otherwise wait
Doing Cahill > Baines worth it for free? Loving this idea from GerrardSlipped.
Everton has great upcoming 5 fixtures whereas Cahill has Palace away, which is a tricky fixture.
Is Baines gonna rise anytime soon?
I actually fancy Chelsea to keep more CS during that time. It’s just whether Baines can get a decent amount of goals and assists.
I see Baines is generating a lot of interest. I know he’s a good player but anyone else worried that the Europa league is affecting Evertons form? More tiring, rotation etc.. At 7mill ideally you want a defender that can keep a couple of CS!
good point, but bear in mind Everton have played Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the first seven GWs………
Good point, I didn’t realise. I also didn’t realise Man u fans can be helpful 😛
shouldn’t treat everyone with your own Liverpool standards LS :hippo:
Nope. I think whats effecting Everton is Injurys and a tough start. They have lost a lot of creativity in there midfield with Barkley, and Mirralas out. They also have Coleman injured and McCarthy out which in all honesty is 4 of there best players. They have also had Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and United In there first 7 games. I expect Everton will still finish around 6th-7th and I think they will certainly improve. Baines is a must have in my eyes.
Surely with their injuries it means it will be harder for Baines to do well… ?
I’m with you Luis – not sure why baines is suddenly a must have when he wasn’t last season at the same price – and there would have been good fixture spells then too. ivanovic is a much better option, so attacking and yet much more likely to keep clean sheets… when is coleman back? is the better pick of the 2 IMO
He is suddenly more attractive due to their fixtures turning for the better. I don’t think anyone is questioning that Chelsea will keep more clean sheets, but when Baines is as attacking as Ivan, PLUS on corners, free kicks AND penalties, he offers a load more attacking wise than Ivanovic.
Of course, missing penalties doesn’t help the argument !!!!!
Baines will prove his worth. He will Get plenty of assists and doesn’t normally miss from the spot.
He’s always been a must have. Baines has outscored Ivanovich every single season going. He’s also placed in the top 10 scoring players for the past few seasons, yet he has a price tag of only £7.0m. Look at it that way and he’s the biggest bargain in the game .
I would also suggest that Ivanovic also has a habit of starting the season well……I’m not surprised that he has outscored Baines thus far, but I’d have a bet that he outscores Ivan over the course of 38 weeks…assuming he stays fit of course!!
100% agree. Everton will find a form and Baines will scored 150-170 points.
