Grab, Avoid or Bore off!
Welcome to the opening instalment of Grab, Avoid or Bore off for the 2016-17 season. Lovely to be back with you the wonderful FPL community and guess what I have in store for all of you? The same 3 fellas who always do it…well, that was an exciting announcement. Much like Wenger, I don’t like to spend money for any new strikers, so no need to break up the 3 Amigos. Unlike Wenger’s crew, this trio of attacking talent always delivers the goods, sort of. Showing that they haven’t lost a step and have all the important nuggets of information you all desire, they reveal to us things like Cahill is Cahill (shocker), that Kop is actually Mr. Excitement, that I might have a soft spot for Costa, that Cookie is absolutely ready when it comes to cheap strikers and that Init has figured out the Italian secret for preserving ageing defenders. Yes!! Yes!! With that kind of info, you certainly can’t afford to not read up and get yourself ready for the upcoming season. So without further ado, bring on Bore off!

Great Article guys. It took a while to read it all bloody hell
A few one word answers for the night owls…
1) GKs – 2 x 4.5m or 5m + 4m? – if 5m – Schmeichel, Forster, Butland or Adrian?
2) Coleman or Baines?
3) JEvans or McAuley?
4) Ayew or Siggy?
5) Bolasie or Cabaye (no extra 0.5m for Townsend)
Cheers!
1. 5.5+4.0 😛
2. baines, undoubtedly
3. McAuley
4. Ayew if they don’t get a decent striker in. If they do, then it’s a coin toss.
5. go for a 5.5 player here to cover up the extra .5 i used in point number 1 😛 (bolasie between these two though, and 2×4.5 gks if i had to choose)
If Berahino moves to Palace, he would replace Carroll. I would then change Bolasie / Cabaye to Feghouli and use the extra 0.5m to get a premium keeper, hope that happens tbh. Cheers Jasprit!!
Depends on the 4.5’s and how well they work together really. It’s probably the best route as it means you have a backup should anything go awry. Cant argue against a premium set and forget either. See Cech last season for example.
Assuming he has pens and free kicks back then Baines for sure. Coleman could really benefit from a Koeman style as well though so he’s well legit too and has a goal threat from open play. Baines shades it though, for me.
McAuley i reckon. Less prone to injury and has the odd goal in him too. Steady Eddie and Pulis seems to really favour him.
Siggy all the way. No doubt about that one, for me.
Same difference i reckon. Gut pick.
Yeah the GKs situation is going to be down to deadline whether they’re 4.5m or a premium.
Mirallas scored a free the other night so that doesn’t make for good reading and it’ll be a battle between them two and Lukaku for pens as well so hopefully find out more over the remaining friendlies. If not, then as you say he could flourish and for patriotic reasons I’d have to go for Coleman.
McAuley it is!
Ayew will be starting up front if a striker isn’t signed but Siggy will be on all set pieces so that’ll be a deadline decision too.
Gut says Bolasie.
Appreciate it NIN!!
great read guys.
i think hazard, ibra and zlatan have confirmed their spots in my team. defence is sorted too.
the remaining 4 forwards are screwing with my head though!
Haha, and they will do until deadline! So many options this year. It’s gonna make for an exciting and downright difficult ride to the finish.
Best 7.5 Mid options?
Fabregas and Ayew if he plays up top
Lord Siggy. The end
Excellent stuff lads. Thank you all.
I’ve had the same team for over a week and that’s a sign, to me, that I’ve nearly cracked it.
Just a few dilemmas haunt me:
1) Long or Austin?
2) Siggy or Ayew?
3) Ake or Mee?
I know preseason will help… but I’m impatient!
Siggy (set pieces and class) vs Ayew (potentially deployed upfront) is the toughest call for me right now.
James
Going on the numbers, Ayew scored more points last season and that means I’ve taken him at this point. Simple reasoning for me but far from conclusive.
I like Ake for his potential to play in an advanced position but until that’s confirmed Mee maybe as I’m sure he’s nailed on to play and you don’t need additional aggro at the start of the season.
Long or Austin is the most difficult one for me as I think they’ll share the gametime. See who starts the final preseason game maybe otherwise look to some other teams main strikers – Gray, Wilson, Carroll etc.
Craig, cheers for that, all very sound. Funny as you opt against all 3 of my current picks! Gonna stick with Siggy / Long for now and review in early August… but will change Ake for now for the reason you’ve outlined: nailed-on players are key for a GW1 team.
Hope yours is coming along nicely?
My squad feels ok just now yeah.
Don’t have screen grab to hand but it has Zlat, Kun, Hazard, Ayew and Wilson in currently.
I think Wilson and Gray might both have penalty duties and they will be guaranteed to play at the very least. Potentially decent value and shouldn’t be overlooked readily in my book.
Austin, Siggy and Mee I reckon. As you say, preseason might make things a bit clearer for us but right now those are the three I’d do with.
Good stuff NIN. Siggy is certainly the better player in my eyes but if Ayew gets this forward role (Gomis is off I hear) then that’s a real mindfuck.
Austin eh? I rate him but can’t imagine him starting matches for the Saints for some reason…
Gray or Wilson would be preferred but both have very dodgy opening fixtures! Also both play for weaker teams; want my 3rd striker in my starting eleven 90% of the time.
Long, Ayew and I would look at someone else for the last spot. Ayew could go well this year if he’s up top. Long and Austin is a bit of a coin toss currently
Great stuff lads. The interviewer is outstanding and so are the interviewed! Interesting your picks for top player In each position. Except your forward cookie mate, lukaku?
#noforwardforoldmen
Morning DMC – yes that maybe somewhat optimistic, though he is consistently up there in fairness to him. At least I didn’t choose Liverpool for the top four and to be relegated, like a certain someone else
Cookie
I looked at him last night and done a draft with him in. His last four seasons have been very consistent pointswise.
I’m interested. Especially if he remains with Everton and Koeman manages him.
GP, I think if you choose him, you just have to stick him in and forget about him, accept the blanks and the missed howlers and trust that come the end of the season you’ll have had a +15 goal a seasom striker in your team.
Much may change pre-season of course, depending on where he will be playing clubwise and indeed when he returns to training after the Euros.
Cookie
Here it was ….
Looks alright doesn’t it GP?
I thought so. Likewise, not saying I’m doing it but it’s an option.
An early wildcard eh? That’s a thought …
Today’s project! 😉
haha GP – it’s a serious point though. Aside from the reasons I have already given, you have the new managers in the league and we don’t know how they will see their best formation. You have the start of the Europa League and CL qualifying rounds. You have Arsenal probably buying a centre back at some stage with Mert confirmed to be out for “months” according to Wenger.
You have the Lukaku, Berahino, Costa sagas. Will Wenger buy another striker. Will Nolito be explosive? Will Zlatan hit the ground running or need a few games or be a complete flop? Will Austin or Long be the favoured Saint or can J-Rod be the talent he once promised to be? By GW4, Dembele will be back to help Kane (and we know how important that is for Kane). I could go on…….
Please don’t go on. You’re scaring me :say-what:
