Grab, Avoid or Bore off!
Welcome to the opening instalment of Grab, Avoid or Bore off for the 2016-17 season. Lovely to be back with you the wonderful FPL community and guess what I have in store for all of you? The same 3 fellas who always do it…well, that was an exciting announcement. Much like Wenger, I don’t like to spend money for any new strikers, so no need to break up the 3 Amigos. Unlike Wenger’s crew, this trio of attacking talent always delivers the goods, sort of. Showing that they haven’t lost a step and have all the important nuggets of information you all desire, they reveal to us things like Cahill is Cahill (shocker), that Kop is actually Mr. Excitement, that I might have a soft spot for Costa, that Cookie is absolutely ready when it comes to cheap strikers and that Init has figured out the Italian secret for preserving ageing defenders. Yes!! Yes!! With that kind of info, you certainly can’t afford to not read up and get yourself ready for the upcoming season. So without further ado, bring on Bore off!

Ok morning all – my first RMT of the season. I’ve gone completely against what I have said about Hazard above, just in order to make a team of premium strikers. What you think?
I love that.
I’ll show you my Lukaku one In a minute but I too thought I made a decent fist if it with three premium forwards as well.
Your midfield is very functional and that isn’t a bad thing even if it sounds underwhelming.
Looks like a squad who will hopefully all play (Hull GK situation to be monitored but it’s an enabler, I get that).
Thanks GP, it was just something I threw together this morning to see what a 3 expensive striker team could like like – I am neither recommending it or suggesting I am going with it, but it was interesting to see what could be done.
One other theory is this…..the Euros and less-so Copa America has meant a lack of pre-season for such names as…..
Alexis, Ozil, Giroud, Hazard, Aguero, KdB, Nolito, Silva, Zlatan, Martial, Sturridge, Vardy, Kane, Alli, Siggy, Payet and others….(and that’s just mids and strikers….) – and we are told every season by managers how important the pre-season is.
Add in the annual argument that the transfers window closes after GW3 (I think), plus there is an international break after GW3 or 4, would it maybe be wise to PLAN A WILDCARD for the international break and set up solely for those first 3 or 4 gameweeks?
Decent team that Cookie
Morning Cookie this is not a bad team considering the 3 big hitters up front , the only one I would change from the of is Firmino just because of fixtures I would go Eriksen or Fab to start then try & get Fir from GW 6 I would also swap Siggy to Barkley from GW 3 good stuff mate 😉
Morning Silvers, Firmino won’t be going anywhere mate unless something happens between now and the start of the season.
I cannot emphasise this enough – Liverpool mids are being overlooked for the reason of “poor fixtures” – did they have trouble scoring against anyone last season? No. I don’t care if they win these so-called tough matches or not – actually I do, I hope they lose, but you can bet they will score.
Ignore at your peril.
+1 here.
No qualms about going Liverpool at any stage.
yes I thk your right Cookie they will score but they will be tight games so don’t expect big points 😉
we shall see Silvers – to me there is no better value in the game than Firmino at 8.5mln.
No European footy distractions / rotations.
Tight games maybe – then again we didn’t expect them to be 3 up at half time at the Etihad last season.
I completely agree on Liverpool atrackers. They tend to score a lot of goals. It don’t really matter who they play they are normally very open and attacking. Coutinho and Firminho seem decent value. They have no European football just not sure how they will line up. They both got rotated towards the end last season because of European football which affected their points tally. Though currently I do not have one but I feel I probably should
Firmino was on pace last season to match Mahrez. His PPM was fantastic. Looks like Kopp has really used him well from a FPL attacking point of view.
Ok I get your point Firmino will get points but will out score Eriksen over the first 5 GW answers on a post card please
1st Pic: Here’s how my team is shaping up for GW1 – putting my trust in Zlatan and Aguero, not least because of how good their first 3 games are.
2nd Pic: This is how I’m thinking my team might look by GW6 – no wildcard played, just 1 transfer per week. Obviously there’s a good chance this could change based on performances – but based on fixtures this is what my team might evolve in to. The early form of Aguero vs Lukaku might be a big factor.
In fact, I’m kind of hoping that that Manchester Derby is the beginning of a poor run of form for City as I’m looking to ship out my 3 City players to accommodate other players with a better fixtures.
Thoughts?
Ian, planning to ship out Aguero is always a dangerous move! No Arsenal in either team is surprising – I understand it for GW1, but by GW6? Re your GW1 team, I’m not a fan of Fernandinho or Kante – don’t see either producing much – the rest looks good mate.
As you have said, plans very easily go out of the windon in FPL and planning specifically 6 gameweeks in advance is, in my opinion, hugely unlikely to play out as planned!
I have Gabriel ready on the bench for GW1 and my GW6 team shows I plan to bring in Cech for Hart.
I also think Ramsey could be an alternative to Coutinho, Ozil potentially for Payet and Giroud for Lukaku… It all just depends on how they start!
Sorry, of course you have Cech there – missed that. Not many people talking about Ozil or Alexis – remember how popular they were last season?! Everyone had at least one of them.
fantastic article
Thanks for the article Cookie , Init , Kop & Mito21 for putting it together enjoyed it cheers lads 😉
Superb article Mito, Cookie, Kop and Init. Informative and enjoyable!
Got a couple of questions:
1. How will Townsend, Zaha and Bolasie be incorporated into the Palace side? Townsend nailed?
2. Any Arsenal players taking people’s fancy? Thinking about avoiding for first few GWs but realise that this could be a risky strategy.
Thanks in advance.
Hey AT.
1. I’d say it’s Bolasie, Townsend and Zaha in that order so I’d say Zaha will find it hardest for gametime. One to keep an eye on.
2. Haven’t considered any if them.
Hi Matt,
Palace’s fixtures are tempting me for Townsend, will monitor it as best I can.
Think Pool/Arsenal will come into my team based on performances and fixtures (although preseason may perhaps change that).
Yeah I have Townsend and I fancy him to have a decent season especially if Benteke signs for Palace. I’m just about to have another look and see if I can get Firmino as I’ve been trying to sort the rest of the team first.
Want Firmino too but the fixtures are putting me off (a may leave £1m in the bank for an Ayew -> Firmino switch after the first few games)
Yeah fixtures are really tough but like Cook says above Liverpool can score goals more than likely well end up scoring 2 or 3 but letting in 3 or 4 haha. I have Mahrez in my team but if he leaves to Arsenal then he’s gone and Firmino comes in. Also even if he doesn’t leave I plan on selling him after the first 3 games. Firmino can come in then or even Mane if he’s doing better.
Good plan Matt. Not sold on Mahrez at £9.5m myself – although maybe I’m just being stingy having had him from GW1 last eyar!
The price isn’t too bad I expected at least 10 Mil for him but again fixtures aren’t the best and I don’t think Leicester aren’t going to be that good this year.
Hi AT, I’m no Palace expert but I’d expect him to play all 3 in behind Benteke, assuming he comes. Looks / feels like a 4-2-3-1 job to me. I’ve asked FantasyEagles on twitter to confirm though.
Thank you Init, I would have thought they all would too.
Any thoughts on the Southampton back line? Feel like we are getting nothing from the first few friendlies. Soares – Fonte – VvD – Bertrand?
That’s what I’d expect but yeah not totally sure. New manager means he’ll be experimenting in the friendlies a lot I suppose.
Could do with Yoshida to complete my team, shame 😉
Surely Fone, VdV and Bertrand are in for sure. Soares probably the 4th, but I would think that is the only possible question mark for now.
What’s the word on Joshua King from Bournemouth? He’s a 5.5 mid but I think hw was listed as a forward and in deed played up front for them last term? He didn’t look bad on the ball the few times I caught him, anyone have any references?
I can’t really help you here except say that King probably only played up top last year because Wilson was injured. I don’t see him playing much this year.
DMC
All being well I see Wilson and Afobe playing up front for Bournemouth this season which is actually a fairly decent partnership.
King might be somewhere in behind in support battling it out with Gradel, Ibe, Stanislas.
That looks like a tough battle to play behind the striker/s
