Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! GW8 The USA Edition

Welcome to the Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! GW8 USA Edition article. Having heard what our European writers have had to say about their own FPL seasons , Change of plans, the American contingent finished their part of this double edition of GABO first (just like the Ryder Cup), so we will go with them. Don’t let this put you off though laugh We jest of course, because we know we have a good many regular site member from ‘over there’ and they all clearly know their stuff. They follow it as avidly as we do in the UK and in many cases are actually proving to be more successful. We here at FF247 love playing their game – MLS, and we would like to think we have had a fair degree of success in doing so. Except when we completely miss the deadlines! Do they have the same issues, what are their takes on our league and their fantasy game in relation to ours and how are they faring this season so far? Let’s go find out…

What are people’s sentiment on Ozil. Currently he doesn’t seem to offer value for money. Is it a case where he has not peaked in form or is his pefromance affected by presence of Sanchez (he doesn’t seem to be consistent when Sanchez is playing). Am thinking of selling him and get Son as his replacement.

      ChrisOllie25 says:

I have him because I wanted Arsenal cover and they play through him, also I am able to build a better all round squad. I am hoping he will pick up many assists in the upcoming games

      • FrontThree says:

        Hi Chris,
Given he is my only Arsenal cover ,would you advise me to go for the move .my other mids are Capoue, Antonio ,Sterling and Snodgrass

        • ChrisOllie25 says:

Can you get Son by selling Antonio?

        • lukealike says:

Antonio is still a good pick, Ham have goals in them from Antonio or Payet. Payet is the better pick obviously, but trading Antonio for Son is going to haunt you. Im a hypocrit tho because I already bought in Son for price changes reasons then I read here someone said he has 2 internationsla so risk of injury or rest is pretty high and I regret it already. I should have got Ali anyway, Ali is going to be a good differential. But neither are worth trading out Antonio for, he will keep scoring. Capoue wont be scoring much anymore..

        • ChrisOllie25 says:

We will see if he will keep scoring. Son is in good form, so there’s the attraction. Getting both would be a good move

    Gents,

If my players come back from IB unscathed, what do you think to the following

    A. Bolasie to son
    B. Bolasie to Firmino
    C. Stones to koscienly/mustafi
    D. Sterling to Sanchez

Or is there any other moves I should be considering? I have 3.1 ITB

  3. 33

    Order of D, A,B,C

    Matt says:

Great article here lads! Cheers for this.

I have 2 FTs this week and Townsend is definitely one of those moves out. Who else should I sell? Currently thinking either Costa(because of his 4 yellows) or Ibra(because he’s done fuck all, but can screw me over)

    • 34.1
      Matt says:

Valencia is also another player I’m considering selling too.

    • 34.2
      Silvers says:

Hey Matt what you have to thk is who do you replace Townsend with not much avilible at 6.3m he still could come good maybe Snodds good set of fixtures gives you .6m in the bank I thk then Val could become Kos Ars great set of fixtures.
Other option Ibra out Luk in more options in MF son , Wally sterling. 😉

      • Matt says:

Hey Silvers. Cheers for replying mate.

I was thinking for Townsend it would be Snoddy, Iwobi or even Fer. I just feel that I have given Townsend so many bloody chances and he’s gotten me barely any points.

Valencia to Kos is exactly who I was thinking or maybe even Mustafi either really.

If I did do Ibra out I would be looking at Son the lad is on fire and I don’t see it slowing down. Only thing is though that Ibra can screw me over if I sell him so I’m not sure what to do with him.

    • 34.3
      Rosco77 says:

I suppose it depends on how much you want to hold Ibra. I have him in my ‘other team’ and I’m getting rid tonight. Doing so will open up so many options. Stoke for me was always the final test, yes I suppose he could come good but I’m not convinced he will ultimately so any better than say Costa, Lukaku and at 11.5 ( and falling) you want more than either of those 2 to justify the extra 1-2.2 million he costs.
So if this were me I’d be shipping Ibra and Townsend and bringing in Costa or Lukaku, given you have Costa and midfielders are starting to shine I’d bring in Sanchez and a cheaper forward in the 7 mil price range. Your defence could do with a make over so leave some funds and look to get Arsenal/soton/spurs coverage.

      • Matt says:

Cheers Rosco. I’m not sure he’s worth it either so I could do Ibra to Rashford (to keep United cover) or Deeney and then I have plenty money to do Townsend to Couthino/Wally/Son (not enough for Sanchez). About 3 mil to upgrade defence then. What you think??

        • Silvers says:

Matt I would do Son then keep . 5m in case you need to upgrd Rashford Ars & Spurs def a must.

        • Matt says:

Silver just checked and by doing a -4 I can do Ibra, Townsend and Valencia to Rashford, Son and Kos with 2 Mil left over to upgrade either Morgan to Walker or Heaton to Lloris the week after.

        • Rosco77 says:

I agree with Silvers 100% Son is my most likely next mid, his form is fantastic and he’s playing up top. I think re Rashford / Deeney you could flip a coin but I think given fixtures and team focus Deeney would be my choise and I think given Martials impact in the last match this may impact Rashfords minutes although I won’t deny he’s the better player!

      • inittowinit says:

Hi Matt, I’ll answer this through the medium of Rosco and hope it doesn’t damage him in some way laugh Basically I’m doing so because I have a similar situation – as in got Ibra, not bothered about losing him, have no Sanchez. My plan has basically been what Rosco is suggesting lastly – Ibra to a 7, I’d suggest Deeney, and buy Sanchez.

        • Matt says:

Haha cheers for this Init. Same reply to you then as I said to Rosco. Sadly can’t afford Sanchez unless I went cheaper than 7 Mil and I don’t much fancy that.

        • inittowinit says:

Yes sorry Matt I just saw that. I’ve actually done the moves suggested and it included Townsend but I forgot I had 0.6 in the bank too, good little saver that I am smile Get Son instead then.

        • Brookyboy says:

Matt,Wilson has some decent fixtures or how about Austin ? I’d be looking to get Sanchez in for Arsenals next fixtures they don’t come much juicier !

        • inittowinit says:

I agree with Brooky here actually Matt. The only one reason I planned like I did was with Sanchez in mind and those next 2 games.

        • Matt says:

Just had another look at fixtures and you are right those next 3 fixtures are fantastic for Alexi and doubling up on Arsenal could be the smart move. Only thing is then I can’t bring in an Arsenal or Spurs defence.

So then my options are either
          1. Ibra, Townsend and Valencia to Rashford, Son and Kos -4

          2. Ibra and Townsend to Wilson and Sanchez for free.

        • Matt says:

          Cheers Init

        • Brookyboy says:

Yep deffo option 2 Matt !

        • lukealike says:

          Get Deeney not Rashford..
Deeney: Captain, set pieces, full minutes, his next goal will be his 100th for Watford, and he will get a brace to celebrate, last game he could have got 3 goals, Capoue will stop scoring, Deenye and Ighalo will start. Ighalo gets less minutes and mroe expensive.
The obvious choice to me is Deeney

      Rosco77 says:

Def 2 Matt, Sanchez would be my priority if I didn’t have him!

      DMC says:

Matt – I don’t think you should seel Andros os Costa with their fixtures mate. As for the yellows, I get why one wouldn’t buy costa, but I can’t understand why sell. Not before he actually get’s that 5th yellow and only if it does represent a ban (cups around the corner). Given that you have 2 ft I’d sell either valencia or morgan for arsenal coverage, if possible.

Townsend & Ozil to Walcott & Son if that’s possible?

I got Ibra/Kun/Lukaku. I am crazy for keeping Ibra? sad

LIke everybody is letting him go. sad LITERALLY, EVERY fucking BODY!

    • 35.1
      lukealike says:

nah, he played well the other day. If I ahd the $ I would consider him, above Costa

    • 35.2
      Wafflez says:

I have the same three forwards i will keep him, he will explode soon and score some goals I’m sure

    • 35.3
      DMC says:

Raz – you know the drill, sell him and he’ll hattrick, keep him and he’ll fail. The way I see it right now is that he’s a bit anxious (all the team is), mainly because of that man city result, and mourinho is not helping them. He’s anxious too. That means 1-0’s or 2-1’s which probably mean Ibra will be on the points but maybe not as free flowing as we thought he’d be.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is that more often than not you’ll be wondering “will he score something” most of the weeks instead of “how many will he score”, which is always painful and cause for anxiety for us fpl managers. It’s suppose to be fun and utd doesn’t seem fun at the moment.

    • 35.4
      inittowinit says:

Raz I sold him but that was only because I needed / wanted Sanchez for now. The next 2 fixtures don’t even compare for the pair. I’d have kept him if I could. I’ll probably bring him back too whenever WC time areives for me.

    hochoki says:

    I have 0.6 ITB & 2 FT left.

Any suggestion regarding the team & transfer would be very much appreciated

    • 36.1
      lukealike says:

Looks good tbh, you could go Pickford>Grant and play him for a few weeks instead of Foster. Thats what im doing anyway

    • 36.2
      inittowinit says:

Zero Arsenal would worry the crap out of me hochoki! I can only really say what I did as per above which was to sacrifice Ibra for now for Deeney and in I’d replace Barry with Sanchez if that’s possible, if not then maybe with Wally or if you don’t want him and see Sanchez as more of a must have then even consider Antonio out for him but that leaves you with a weaker overall mid in terms of the 4th and 5th ones.

      • hochoki says:

i was thinking about -4 hit

        1. ibra+Antonio + Valencia—-> Defoe+Sanchez+Koscielny
        2. Ibra+Antonio+Collins—>Costa+Son/Walcott+Koscielny

        • inittowinit says:

I like both plans to be honest. I’d probably edge towards 1 because it includes Sanchez. 2 with Wally may be better balanced overall though. Mainly because you keep a premium striker.
