Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2018-19

Whilst we all hate International Breaks to disrupt our FPL flow they are at least good for one thing and that’s an opportunity to put some of our favourite FPL managers on the spot and ask them a few pertinent questions. This week though we’ve decided to give them a break and have instead drafted in some others… 😉

First up is everybody’s favourite professional Geordie. Long gone are the days of steel workers and miners filling the terraces of Newcastle, your modern day Toon hero is a bit of a lush who drinks Prosecco most nights and takes showers with his dogs, apparently! Except of course on a Sunday, on the tipple front anyway, no idea about his pet shower schedule! Guinness or Newcastle Brown you ask? Noooooo… champagne, naturally! A warm welcome to Rosco.

To be fair to our second contestant if he was ever called a ‘favourite’ he’d take it as an insult as he makes a living out of being everybody’s worst nightmare. He’ll hate me saying this though: he’s actually a genuinely nice guy in real life! Please welcome the sheep in devil’s clothing that is Mito. A frosty welcome to Mito!

Our final contestant (no idea why I keep calling them contestants, but let’s roll with it!) is a bit of an enigma. He’s well known in FF247 circles but mainly ‘behind the scenes’ as he’s our main IT brain. He’s been slow to make a name for himself in the front of house community but has been taking baby steps in that direction this season. Probably doesn’t help that whenever he does some smart arse (Mito) usually welcomes him to the site as a newbie! He’s actually a member of the FF247 Site Team committee, and provides us with invaluable copy each week, albeit often unintentionally! A warm welcome to Floydeth.

Ok, let’s get it on!

Brilliant GABO guys. The contestants were up for it!

There is this one question though that didn’t quite translate to what was asked by the community (me). It’s the one in the pick, because the question was “which two to go with Aguero?”, meaning Aguero is granted and you have two other premium spots to fill from the other three blokes, instead of “pick two out of four” which seems to be the question the contestants were confronted with.

Would appreciate if you accept post scriptum questions! smile

    Kruzcampo says:

Ah well, there is the first hit taken with Mendy out for Laporte, which followed Maddison out for Martial.Still got 5 with sick notes,so it may turn into a free hit!

Ok, attempting my wildcard but struggling massively.
    What do you guys reckon.

      Mr Go says:

I prefer the second team, but I wouldn’t have Neves and would just go with a cheaper option, who starts every week.

      hammerfan_lm says:

Shame as would love to keep Salah.
I could always drop Martial for Kante… tee hee!!

      • hammerfan_lm says:

Inittowinit, Kralin, Chipster….. what are your thoughts on my teams above?
From past comments by people, Hazard is a must. In my eyes, Salah is a must as I do think he is always going to score.
Arnie is a must as well as we have good fixtures. Anderson is starting to come good. I cannot get in Mendy (although injured), so have tried something else, but am still short?
        Any ideas?

        • hammerfan_lm says:

And I know this might sound like a strange question, but is it possible for a persons team to jump from £100m to £103.8m in 12 weeks?

        • Rosco says:

I’ll not judge your team as I’m not one of your selected judges!! But yes to your second question, I mean my TV is about £104.6 and I know others here have higher!

        • Kruzcampo says:

I think you will have to bite the bullet and lose 1 of your big hitters from team 2. Maybe look at bringing in Fraser instead of the mids or Murray for Kun. I have neither Salah or Kun ,but have Mane & Hazard,Richarlie ,Martial & Fraser. If any spare look to upgrade Neves.
Good luck whichever way you go.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

Thanks Rosco – wasn’t sure if the certain person had used the “cheat” to increase his TV somehow.

Kruzcampo – know what you mean. As much as I don’t want to lose Salah or Kun, may have to do something, or ditch Anderson and Martial for someone cheaper.

        • inittowinit says:

Eminently possible Hammers. Interesting though that the top 4 are all outside of the ‘top’ 3million and the 5th is outside 500k.

        • Kruzcampo says:

Those guys with high team values all have low points as they take huge amounts of hits. Some people don’t bother with points, just compete for the highest tv. It takes all sorts to make FPL what it is.
My TV is 104.2 which is down a bit due to Mendy & Maddison sales

        • inittowinit says:

I think it’s 6 million over budget laugh

        • hammerfan_lm says:

I am 6m over budget Inittowinit, help me mate…lol

        • Kralin says:

I’m here for you Hammerfan. Always.

Well, almost always. You need to present us with a side that’s within your budget. Not one 6m over. All of us yearn for an extra 6m. I know this is fantasy football but you’re taking the fantasy side too literally. Just do what you have to do. There’s plenty of time.

        • inittowinit says:

Seems to be a half way house between formations is my first impression. Cake and eating it, etc. Or indeed too many cooks…. make one way over budget!

What’s your preferred formation? Start trimming the fat with that in mind and kill either the 5th mid/ defender or 3rd striker accordingly, for starters.

Reading that back I think I must be hungry, subconsciously!

        • hammerfan_lm says:

I know Kralin, but its starting to get to know.
Out of those big hitters. who could I really do without?
To me, they all seem to be a must.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

          Inittowinit, I seriously dont know.
I tried to fit in ARM, Salah, Hazard and Arnie, then thought, Anderson is doing well, and worked the rest around them.
Maybe I should revert back to my old team and keep Kante, just to appease everyone..lol

        • inittowinit says:

As Kralin said, make your tough calls and then post up a realistic team and we can all take it from there with you. Find the recent thread from Roccer, he’s similarly torn on big hitters and on a potential WC but I think he’s narrowing it down nicely.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

ok, cant screenshot my team for some reason sad but will write it up:

          Fab/Hart
          Bennett/Dunk/Alonso/Wan-Bis/Robertson
          Hazard/Salah/Anderson/Camarasa/Kayal
          Arnie/Kun/Jimenez

        • hammerfan_lm says:

That leaves me with 0m left

        • inittowinit says:

Do Cam and Kayal rotate well (being honest I wouldn’t have either, but let’s go with it for now!)?

        • hammerfan_lm says:

Inittowinit, Kayal has tough Wk17&19. and Cam has tough Wk18, so hoping it might be ok.
JUst a draft to see what you guys think.

        • inittowinit says:

Being honest, I don’t like those two! Rest seems fine but to rectify those someone else has to go. Sterling for Salah perhaps? Does Hart rotate with Fab or can you just go with Fab?

        • hammerfan_lm says:

I am just worried having no Pool midfield cover.
Are there no other midfield alternatives?
Unless I ditch Anderson for someone slightly cheaper to get more funds, or Salah->Mane, which I admit, I am still not sure on.

        • hammerfan_lm says:

Ok guys, I am scared to press my Wildcard button.
After reading the latest article, is it maybe worth holding out for a week and doing Arnie->Mitro seeing as its Ranieri “dilly dong’s” first game, against Southampton?

    Mr Go says:

Excellent article, a great read. Any ideas on who to sell Mendy for?

  5. 23
    Cimon says:

    Love the Gabo articles.

With Mendy out and deciding I can no longer wait to ditch firmino despite his fixtures. Is it time to wildcard? Who is the best Mendy replacement? Laporte, double Liverpool or Alonso? Is sane an option for the length of mendys injury?

  6. 24
    eresh12 says:

for those who have mendy, who are you going to replace him with? Laporte or a different team like a duffy/dunk ?
