Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2019-20

With the resumption of the Premier League, and of course FPL, things are finally back to normal, right? Well, not quite! That said, what is normal these days?

Whilst we have all been diligently following government legislation for what feels like an eternity, football of any description feels like a welcome distraction for some, and others an unnecessary risk. Wherever you sit on that debate we respect your opinion. Whether you’re for or against football without fans matters little, that’s how it’s going to be, so let’s just suck it up and get back to why we’re here; FPL.

Maybe you used a Chip for the DGW that never was, blew your Wildcard preparing for fixtures that didn’t happen, or used your weekly FT’s during the lockdown perfecting your team only for everyone to be given unlimited Free Transfers. Dems the breaks kids.

With unlimited Free Transfers, Chips still to play and a whole host of changes to football that will likely have ramifications for our FPL season finale, we thought what better time to turn to our Amigo’s and see how they plan to see out their season in style before riding off into the sunset… ready to come back again a few weeks later.

Thanks for reading Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!. This article was written by Rosco.

    Hey Guys,

    Its good to be back!

Just started tinkering with my team with a view to using bench boost with a WC straight after & have come up with this lot.

Not sure about Saka & Luiz if i’m honest so was thinking of swapping Jimi /Saka/Luiz for either

    Jota/Mcginn/Saka

    or

    Jota/Mcginn/Cellballos

    What do you think?

    Cheers

Sheesh, slim pickings on the DGW defensive front. Seriously considering ignoring them all!

Anyone got a gem that’s slipped me by?

I hope Alli will grow up one day… If anyone had him in their team, he’s banned for the first game against United for being an idiot!

What I’m torn on currently is
    A) Fleck, Lundstram and Kiko
    B) Cantwell, Basham and O’Connell

Guys, every time I log in, I come up with a different team, very confused. This is what I’ve come up with now, with a view to us BB and the wc soon after. Sorry to be so annoying.

Afternoon everyone. I started thinking last night about my FPL team and so today I have actually done the research for once! If we weren’t given unlimited FTs would people actually be investing in this DGW heavily? I’m not so sure!

Looking at the four teams with extra games, Sheffield United probably has the best points opportunity on paper. They play Villa and Newcastle so could probably get points at both ends of the pitch whereas Villa will likely struggle to score against Sheffield who has one of the best defences in the league and then plays Chelsea who will be no easy feat either.

Arsenal and City will be a tough match, I think people are forgetting that before the break Arsenal were undefeated in 8 games and Arteta was a City coach so will know Pep’s tactics, know the players’ strengths and weaknesses so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsenal draw or nick a win. Then they have Brighton which should be an easy win for the Gooners and might warrant heavy coverage in the DGW (but that’s only one fixture and one team!)

Next is City and like I say above I’m not too sure on the Arsenal fixture; then you have Burnley and it’s not like they are a bad side. Pope is the top-scoring GK this season, they were also unbeaten in 7 games in which they beat Leicester and United while drawing to Spurs and Arsenal. We might not see massive scores from City and Pep might rotate because he has the luxury to do so.

What are people’s thoughts on this? Right now I’m all set to go all out in the DGW but I’ve been coming up with other plans and ideas.

I like your thinking, mate. I feel the same about this DGW in that it’s pretty much all or nothing thanks to now being the only one, as 31+ onwards is a normal schedule, whilst the unlimited transfers thing, like a new season, is bound to affect that. Hopefully, with no prices changing, people aren’t actually swapping out players until they’re fully sure otherwise a fair bit of value could be going to waste.

I also agree in that I don’t see Man City getting cricket scores and their clean sheets have been few, so it would definitely just be their attackers to go for. Obviously we all remember what Arsenal’s defence has also been like and so it’ll be interesting to see what the likes of PEA and whoever else in that team get for attack-related points. Whilst they have Brighton, that’ll be a team fighting against relegation and so it may not be as clear cut as it would have been earlier this campaign.

At the moment, I’m looking at utilising these free transfers, bench boosting and then wildcarding either next week or the week after BUT, in the meantime, keeping players I wouldn’t be able to afford to get back who could also do well in their single ganeweeks. The likes of Salah, TAA, Fernandes and Vardy spring to mind when I say that. A draft I put together last night has 10 DGW players.

      • MattX says:

Yeah I was thinking about it and if this DGW was back before the lockdown I would have had max 6 DGW players because I wouldn’t have used my WC for it and I wouldn’t have sold the likes of the players you’ve mentioned above.

I’ve got a draft with the max 12 DGWers but it sells Salah, Fernandes, Maguire and Vardy. I haven’t tried making a new draft after my ‘revelations’ but I’m going to do that next. Like right now my plan is to go 12 DGWers and BB, then WC in 31+, and FH the end of the season.

But I’m starting to lean towards creating a balanced team with a mix of SGW and DGW, WC in GW32/3, then BB the following week so either 33/4 (haven’t decided just yet) and then FH in either 36 or last day.

You’re probably correct Matt (and good post by the way).

It’s a double gameweek after all and that’ all some folk can see … (INCLUDING ME!)

Had I not the WC for use the week after, I wouldn’t be pushing the boat out though, no.

      • MattX says:

        Cheers mate!

I’m the exact same. It was only when I saw someone mention losing TV last night I actually thought about it.

I have my WC as well and like I was saying to Swirls I currently plan on doing the same as you and WCing straight after a BB in 30+

I’m just not sure if it will be a successful as say in 32/33 which some SGW matches seem more favourable.

I agree with your opinion on SHU and Villa. I will definitely have 3 SHU players (probably 3 defenders) but struggle to find 3 decent options from Villa. Quite frankly, I cannot find anyone obvious beside Grealish (maybe Reina for save points or a punt on a low priced mid/Samatta).
However, I have a different opinion on MC & Arsenal, which I am not saying is the right or wrong – just different. I believe City will go all in over the next few games (at least until the title race is all over). I am not saying it is going to be easy but I think they will win both games. The issue there is it is quite hard to pick amongst all these attacking options. And the funny thing is – no one likes Pep roulette but we all play it and hope for the best haha
Arsenal on the other hand tend to struggle away, and even though they had a good run before the pause, I think it was more of an impulse rather then finding consistency. The way I see it – it will probably be a rough and scrappy game in Brighton and we all know it is never easy against a team fighting for its survival in the PL.
Chipwise, I wouldn’t even consider playing a chip for this GW if there was another DGW but sadly there isn’t. I am not quite sure which route I am going to take but I will try to find balance between not destroying my TV and also somehow taking advantage of the DGW.
The bottom line is that we have no idea how much the pause and all these changes (5 subs, no audience etc) will affect the teams, so it will be a lot of fun/drama :drinks:
